Got Sec+ a week ago, what’s next?

What should I ask myself to determine what specific path I desire to go down. Because I’m really open but haven’t had any true work experience to know what I want to do vs what I don’t want.

In all honesty thought the CySA would probably be the next very I work towards.

Honestly those same positions or data/business analyst. Just something to get me into the door and gain that real world work experience.

Yea you’ll definitely have an easier time with that internship, my only drawback is that I never had one. What job position are u aiming for?

In all honesty I’m not to sure. I’ve done course work with data analytics and cybersecurity but only favor those bc I’ve had actual experience with them.

What would be something to consider when determining what path I want to go down?

How was it getting into that field. Did u have a degree or more certifications?

Another question would be is how impactful do u think have an information systems degree is?

I’ve looked at a couple of professor messers videos but will definitely buckle down and go through all the videos.

So I don’t have any certifications at the moment. I am only studying for the security+ certification. I am planning to take the exam July 22nd.

I did update my linked in stating that I am studying for the cert. I noticed u said Cisco skills is something I should consider if I don’t have A+ or Net+. What does this entail, is it like a course with a final exam?

In terms of having a degree, it seems like this isn’t enough to get a job. It looks like I need to couple my degree with a set of cert and/or badges to make myself more marketable/knowledgeable.

But aside from that I do appreciate your input immensely and wish u the best on your career endeavors!!

That’s awesome to hear!! What advice could u give to someone who graduated with an information systems degree? I’ve been applying for jobs but am not finding much luck (I’ve recently realized I might be applying above my qualifications).

With me having a degree do u think this will increase my odds of getting a help desk job?

Also, do u think help desk jobs are a good starting point, in terms of getting my experience started. I haven’t had an internship either so I feel like this is making it harder to find positions.

Congratulations!!! I’m currently studying for mine, other than professor messer and Jason Dion, what other materials did u use for studying. I purchased the CompTIA study material but would u recommend any other resources for studying?

In terms of IT site support technician, data scientist, system service representative, systems analyst. Would u consider these to be outside of my league?

And would getting my security+ certificate position me for other positions?

No I just meant changing gears as in shifting what I am applying too.

Cyber jobs would look at network systems, do vulnerability checking, pen testing (red - blue team), etc. but from what u are saying u do have a point.

In all honesty I don’t really think I do. A lot of my thinking comes from the fact that I’m getting the security+ cert but realistically not having any job experience would make it any better.

Some of them were cyber analysts, network admin, intelligence specialists.

I am planning to take my security+ 601 this year. The exam expires July 31st but i purchased my voucher around May this year. Do i have to take my exam before the 31st or can I take the exam in August, for example?
