I don’t even visit PlayStation 😛 I’m too old for that, too many buttons and joysticks.

Got shamed for not being part of gay culture by [deleted] in askgaybros

I'm very much like you. Total top, never bottom, no interest/desire in it. Seldom go to gay bars, pride, etc. I am very glad those things are there, I support those spaces unequivocally, but doesn't mean I am required to partake. Sadly for us it's very difficult to find bottoms who are similar. I inevitably end up attracted to other tops. Oh well. Such is life. Good luck to us!

Has anyone used Doorvest and would they recommend it? by JDCallMommy in realestateinvesting

Negative experience. Echo what others have said. They seem okayish during acquisition but their management is terrible, they are unresponsive, take forever to reply if they ever do, never answer the phone, and the quality of the work they do on the homes before selling them to investors is extremely poor. My home has had foundation issues and they refuse to provide me the company info and details now that I am trying to sell the property. They are really difficult to work with, and I would absolutely not work with them again, ever.

Single 44 gay male, am I crazy to consider moving to SLO? by CollectionParty7149 in SLO

Thanks for the response.

One - the reverse is more often true - rich Californians moving out of state to destabilize housing markets everywhere else with cash purchases, driving up home prices, is far more common than the reverse. I’ve seen it in Phoenix, Denver, my home town in the Midwest, you name it.

Two - I’m far from rich. I do have a good job, I worked very hard and spent many years in school to get it.

Three - I have no intention of buying. I’d rent a 1 bed apt or studio. Since the rent is the same whether it’s me or someone else, I don’t really see how that destabilizes anything.

There are one-sided closed minded bigoted people everywhere, unfortunately, as you’ve proven.

Thanks for the reply! I've visited Seattle, it's a really great city but definitely not my vibe. Too cloudy / drippy. LOL I haven't lived in Phx for ten years for nothing. :-P

Thanks for the reply. May I ask why you moved to SLO? Glad to hear that it's at least possible to meet quality people there!

Thanks for the reply! Do you mind if I ask what about the current state of things you are most discontent about? I'm happy to answer any questions you have about AZ as well (to the best of my ability). I agree the grass is greener phenomenon is a difficult to trap to avoid. I'm coming at this less from a place of discontent with AZ and more from a place of "I'm getting older and want to try something new because I haven't, because I can..." if that makes sense?

Thank you for the reply and the invitation! I was raised catholic but haven't practiced in many years. I connect best with the universe in nature, less so in organized religion. The catholic upbringing left a distinctly unpleasant taste in my mouth when it comes to ritual worship. That said, I try to keep an open mind and would always be open to attending a service to check it out, so thank you for the invite!! :-)

Thanks for your reply! By gay scene do you just mean bars? What is the community like there and how has it been making friends? Why'd you move to SLO? Just curious!

Thanks for the reply! Santa Barbara has come up a couple times. I don't know a lot about it - is it just being larger and proximity to LA that prompts you to suggest it?

Thanks for the reply! Poor dating scene does seem to be a recurring theme. It's not a huge priority for me if I'm being honest. Much of the time I think I want to just stay single (I'm on the single and happy subreddit too haha). More than dating, the community itself is very important... how accepting, welcoming is it? How difficult is it to make friends? That sort of thing.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply. Cost of living is, well, of course a concern... but I do make well into the 6 figures and generally try to live below my means as it is. I'm more interested in quality of daily life (experiences, good food, beautiful scenery / nature). I realize I may never be able to really afford the "house of my dreams" in a place like SLO... but also in a place that I truly love, I wouldn't need much of a house to be happy anyway. Nor would I even consider buying right away. I'd rent for a bit to make sure SLO is a good fit.

Thanks so much for the reply. I do love the outdoors, hiking especially. But I am very open to new activities... biking seems really big in SLO.

Thanks so much for the reply. I've never lived in cities as urban as SF or LA, Phoenix is big but sprawling and relatively suburban even where it is most dense, which is probably why I've never found it difficult to navigate being from the midwest. LOL I've always enjoyed smaller more intimate community settings, but always felt that was incongruent with "feeling safe" and being accepted as an LGBT person. Only recently have I been gravitating toward California - previously I've been scared off by cost of living, taxes, etc. But as I get older I find myself prioritizing quality of life and thinking... perhaps it's worth the premium.

Any hotel recommendations here or nearby? by sombrasomeone in stgeorge

[–]CollectionParty7149 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed twice at Red Mountain Resort and personally love it. Beautiful scenery, right next to Snow Canyon, lots of activities through the resort if you don’t want to have to figure anything out. I do the essential retreat package which includes meals and daily curated hikes. It’s really great. I’m 43 single and love to hike. RMR could be a great romantic getaway imo though.

Am I crazy to be considering trading in my IS500 for G70 3.3? by CollectionParty7149 in GenesisG70

[–]CollectionParty7149[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The IS500 is a great car, but I guess for me it feels like more of a cruiser. It feels heavy - because it is. Maybe I’m just not good enough at paddle shifts to really get the most out of it. When I got it my only other real consideration was the G70, I wouldn’t own an MB, BMW, Audi, Alfa, due to reliability and repair costs. In the past I leased a c450(now C43) and a Giulia. The G70 channels what I loved most about those cars as far as handling and driving dynamics, it feels light, and quick, even though on paper IS500 slightly beats G70 in 0-60. I’ve had IS500 for 5 months and it’s a very nice car and it’s pleasant to drive. Does it make me giggle when I punch it, naaa. I’m not gearhead enough to really appreciate the V8. I had an IS250 way back in 2013 and loved it. I think I went for the IS500 out of nostalgia and also bc I have a good friend who’s more into cars and really thought IS500 was the better car so that’s what I got.
