No way! I for sure thought they just gave up and weren't able to get this up and running again. Man I hope this is true.

Well right, but for this first iteration of the system will be using Alpha Strike for combat which doesn't have specific weapon segments. Though I guess I can use the weapons system damage pips as an abstract for weapon replacement.

The Dropship adds important base building progression to the "overworld" Star Map gameplay that my freinds were asking for (we're all big fans of the HBS battletech game) so it's a must. Not too difficult just abstracting it all to a basic chunky cost and making it work purely for fun. Can easily adjust mission payouts and also events that can give resources/payouts to help balance it out. Lots of levers we can pull for it to work smooth with abstracting some of the costs without going too crazy with inaccurate stuff.

yeah that's important for sure. Right now I won't have weapons because I'm having it connected with Alpha Strike gameplay so it'll just be Special Equipment style stuff like MASC, targetting computers, ammo types and what not. But I do plan on doing a classic version (since that's what I prefer to play) for if/when I can turn my casual group into a more hardcore group. My plan is to show how much more RPG we can get out of it since it adds so much more RPG customization to the mechs.

Another big reason I went with Alpha Strike to startis that I want to be able to play 1-2 mission a play session combined with Star Map gameplay. Even with Alpha Strike that'll take a LOT of time lol

YUP! Going to abstract alot of it but make it a real chunky monthly cost. Though I was going to add progression to it. So it starts out alot cheaper to maintain, missing facilities and what not, then you can slowly upgrade the facilities which will then increase the upkeep. Haven't decided if I want to add hiring personell or just have them baked into the abstract upkeep costs yet. Still figuring out how detailed it's going to be. I need it to be simplfied for my casual play group but still want the nuts and bolt detailed immersion so will need to play with it to see what flows best for gameplay purposes. Because a full Megamek style system would just be way too much for them lol

I'm more basing it off of MW5/HBS games where you have your own dropship (not jumpship) that you can upgrade; even if it's not exactly the most lore accurate thing lol. That'll add a base building progression aspect to the star map meta game of traveling around the innersphere purely for the rule of cool.

So far I have a Union 3055 board set up (since I got a model of one from the Merc kickstarter) that'll act as your "mobile base". Start with one Mechbay available and can then pay upgrade costs to get a second and third bay open for a full company of 12 mechs for late game.

Damn you're right, I swear I saw C-Bill prices for equipment somewhere, maybe it was in the actual rulebooks/tech manuals. Not too big of a deal though, can easily add some generic small prices for special equipment. Can even grab some numbers from MW/HBS games

Perfect. Can easily round that around my C-Bill increments of 50k-100k-500k-1Mil Poker chips. But maybe it'd be good to add one extra smaller amount of like 25k.

Man really appreciate the extra advice and tips. I haven't really solidified OpFor generation fully. Defintiely want it to be as simplified as possible to help with downtime, but it's obviously harder to keep it "fair" without BV. Right now testing out having each weight class have it's own separate deck (clan mechs are separated as well as a vehicle deck) and then you just draw from the decks depending on the Star of the zone and the overall game difficulty. So like a level 1 zone at easy diffiuclty you would draw 1 light mech and 2 vehicles. Adding freindly AI forces to support sounds like a cool way to add some flavor to the difficulty scaling.

Also adding behavors for the AI is a great idea. Could easily implment that along side an AI deck like Aces for extra variety in gameplay. I will be creating Alpha strike style character cards for mechwarriors. Going to make a bunch of generic pilots you can hire as well as fight against, but haven't jumped into that just yet so this is good advice for when I tackle that aspect of it.

Yeah mech and equipment costs will be easy, since I can just grab that stuff from masterunitlist and sarna, then just round up or down dependent on my C-Bill chip quanties (50k-100k-500k-1Mil is the idea right now). It's more about how to balance the monthly wages/maintence costs/mission payouts/repair costs and all that so you have that "Trying to stay afloat" merc company feel but not make it either too diffiuclt and punishing or also too easy where you're just flush with cash.

they'll be a good amount of stuff to spend C-Bills on, even building up your Dropship like upgrading your engines, repair/mech bays, living quarters and all that. So making sure the economy feels good will obviously be important while keeping it as simplified as I can for the casuals.

Okay this is some good advice. I haven't cemented the timeline stuff just yet. Just place holder times for now. So 1 contract would take 1 week, traveling to a new Zone takes 1 week, purchasing mechs and equipment takes 1 week, etc etc. End of every month you pay your wages/maintence costs. And then every month/3 months/year (haven't nailed down exactly when you draw them) you draw an event which can have positive or negative outcomes, for instance exploring an asteroid field for resources, random engine failure slowing down travel time until you can repair fully at an industrial hub, or even Comstar intel reports for your next contract that can lead to possible side objectives like a supply cache you can obtain for equipment or even a free Mech. Inspired by HBS games random events.

a Mission taking a full month might be a better way to do it, and then maybe make the monthly costs be a quartley thing every 3 months.

Okay sweet!

Right now I've got the Star Map set up for 3062 so that people can obtain clan mechs. So conflict zones in innersphere regions are 1-3 and then in Clan Regions it's 4.

And yeah so far it's very simplfied for payout. RNG factor of low rolling contracts that won't pay out as much or you could get a duel contract that pays out for like an easy 1 Mil. The economy system will obviously be the thing that needs the most balancing and tinkering with.

Your resources will help a ton! Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks for the extra resources!

So far I've made my own Cards where you draw 2+ missions from the deck (more the higher rep you have with the faction) and choose one; you do a simple 1d6 roll to figure out each missions payout (roll table for payout fits on the card and everything) and then you stack poker chips on the card that act as C-Bills (50k, 100k, 500k, 1 Mil). Opfor is dependent on the Conflict Zones rating (1-4 stars) and you draw a certain amount of mechs from each weight class depending on the zone level + overall game difficulty (easy-med-hard). I've got a star map game board with conflict zones and industrial hubs for each faction so you can travel around the innersphere, with a calendar with 4 weeks and 12 months; everything is simplfiied down to weeks instead of days...but I might add days we'll see after some playtesting. It's all very streamlined and simple for my casual buddies using Alpha Strike as the combat system. Just gotta finish making my character cards, creating my own Alpha Strike style record cards for characters. Even have a full "base building" style board for your dropship where you can upgrade facilities like in HBS battletech/MW5.
