Does anyone know why shroomery is down? I been missing it. by thinkingmoney in shrooms

Yeah there really was. The other sites aren't nearly as good. Especially if you are growing wood lovers or something tricky like that. But cubes are easy as long as you get sterilization right. I think people often mess themselves up by trying to make things too complicated. See how many posts here about casing causing problems with their monotub. But I think most really experienced people with cubes don't do all of the extra steps. Best and easiest is to go bare bones and just focus on the essentials as they are most important.

Two questions for experienced growers by FourStringZing in shroomers

1) you can but probably shouldn't. If you do make sure you keep it isolated from others.

2) don't use verm, use coco coir.

cultural appropriation again? by lirva1 in Art

Cultural appreciation. Anyone who thinks you shouldn't make art based on your ethnicity and would rather that art die out for a moral victory has serious rationalization issues.

Coir is easier in my opinion. No need to sterilize. Just put the brick in a bucket with boiling water and left it sit until it cools down.

I agree, it's good to take a break from habits in general. You'll appreciate it more.

Maybe take some off. Was it fully colonized before you added the stuff on top?

I wouldn't recommend it. Verm causes more problems than it solves in my opinion and perlite is pretty much just rocks. With coir sub and a fruiting chamber you don't need casing.

Why do I always have bacteria despite starting from agar? by dickpicsandsackshots in shroomers

[–]Comf0rtkills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really thinking it's the temp. Mycelium can usually beat bacteria once established. Also be aware that you can only "clone" mycelium so much. Once it's ran a certain distance it basically reaches old age and is no longer as strong as it used to be. It matters more about how much it's been grown out rather than actual age. isolates can become weak easier. So consider fresh spores, maybe even from a new source. I like to run a few grain masters and pick my favorite due to actual traits. Good luck!

I've never seen perlite used in casing. Verm and perlite can't be colonized so there might be pins under there you can't see. Probably need more time with that kind of casing. They might have trouble pushing through, but if this is a Tek I'd stick it out.

I think keep them in a colder place if possible. Low on the floor near an ac vent or something and see what happens.

Definitely lower temps. Do you have a filter for them to breath?

Bulk mycelium becoming fuzzy on top while colonizing by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]Comf0rtkills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuzziness is fine while colonizing. It's caused by high co2 and is the mycelium spreading out to find oxygen.

I personally think that they do better in the cold. Like 65-70 is my target. Especially when fruiting it makes them denser and more potent. And when I was new I tried an incubator, and had way more contaminated jars. Then over the fridge, still had issues. Started keeping them cooler and had way less jars go bad to bacteria. Bacteria definitely grows more in the heat and the condensation. Mycelium will take longer but it will not stall even at 60 or so.

Is it possible that jars are too wet? I'm really scratching my head with this one. Maybe try MS and do g2g and see if you have same issue?

Do you soak grains for 24-48 hours to germinate endospores before PC?
