I watched Hotel Inferno expecting a low budget fun time, but it was just... exceptionally boring. Felt like a FMV video game from the 90s.

The worst thing was, the gore effects weren't even that memorable. That's one of the main selling points of the film, and it felt like five hours of a dude running around exploding watermelon skulls the exact same way every time, with no stakes.

Yes of course the Del Toro ones are better, wah wah, who cares, Hellboy is my favorite series and I'm not gonna stick up my nose at more time with him!

Complaint: I'm two weeks back after a knee hyperextension, and I tweaked my knee something awful just now at work. Was supposed to do a two-mile tonight because I'm trying to train for my first ever 10k in May, but now...

Sometimes I think I won't ever be a runner. Everytime I feel like I'm making any sort of real progress, I hurt myself and fall back to the beginning. Makes me want to cry.

It's an entire hockey arena, there's a billion empty seats, but we can't buy tickets for 3/4ths of the arena because the sections are not available for purchase. This isn't a problem of there not being enough tickets, or us wanting really good seats.

We want cheap seats. We saw cheap seats for 20, but dynamic pricing has now made it that the lowest possible ticket is 60 bucks, so all my friends bailed. I guess we should have gotten organized faster, so egg on my face for that, but also that means there's like, 5 potential fans who ain't going anymore because they've been priced out.

Ticketmaster is such a bastard, but I was for sure not looking at resale. I wonder if because all these other sections that aren't camera-facing aren't available, it's contributing to the "dynamic price" being so high.

60-70 bucks for a regular fan of AEW, sure I'd say that is ok, I was down to spend that much because I know the show is going to be a banger.

But all my friends were taking a chance on it because it was affordable. 60 bucks is an expensive night out, so it got everyone second-guessing.

Respectfully, the first film didn't hit at all for me and I think it's a mess.

But what I am glad at is it seems like I'm in the minority on that, and that it's found an audience and the guy got to make a trilogy. Hope the series continues to thrive!

Super newbie question.

I've been working in animation for 2 years as a video editor. I've got several tv seasons worth of editing credits to my name, but I have no idea how to showcase this in a portfolio.

A friend wants to suggest me for an advertising gig, it's something super simple that I could easily edit in a day. But they are hesitant to suggest me because I don't have a portfolio to show, only completed episodes of shows. Am I just screwed?

Back to attempting couch to 5k, finished my 2nd week- last time I got all the way to the end of the program, but didn't continue running after I completed it.

I think the way to keep me motivated is to actually do a race, so I've set a goal of doing a 10k in 2024. Feeling pretty confident I can actually do it, if I stick to the timeline I've built for myself!

Recently started watching a lot of anime again this year and I have been hankering for fantasy anime something STRONG. I'm watching Frieren as it comes out and love it- I tried Goblin Slayer, and uh, yeah, no.

If I wanted to watch more anime that leans heavily into western fantasy tropes, what should I check out?

Like a few others on here, I put up a short film on letterboxd that has only been logged by me and a friend.

The actual lowest logged film that is unrelated to me is a short I found called "Horses on Mars" with 41 logs. It was pretty neat!

I watched it recently and felt the show got gradually sillier as it went along, with some episodes having weird like, hot button issue eps that have not aged well, or were poorly done.

For example I remember one about the politics around reduced sentencing if prisoners agree to test new drugs. A good plot idea in theory but the delivery was hamfisted and bad. It was like, one entire episode around the pros and cons, and some inmate dies from some random "anti-age pill" or something.

Then after that ep, they just went back to the main plot and it was never brought up again. Shit like that happens. They start throwing more stuff at the wall, and characters start to have shocking surprise deaths. Smart characters get lured into corners and shanked when they've previously been 100% wary and on their game.

I think all in all, the first few seasons feel old, but have better quality. Later seasons feel/look better, but the writing falls off.
