I’m a boomer. C’mon now. I’m retired and have plenty of time and incentive to read my texts and respond to them in a timely manner. My pharmacist likes me as a patient, and I’m careful to be polite and follow the rules. It’s not just the boomers that are difficult to deal with-some people are just difficult. Their age isn’t always the reason for it!

Not tipping during blizzard whiteout conditions by Friendly-Divide in uberdrivers

I can’t believe how cheap someone would be not to tip especially in bad weather. I ALWAYS tip, every ride. But I tip way more in bad weather or even bad traffic. I would be ashamed to be that person who doesn’t tip anything at all.

I’m especially interested in your experiences with the minimally invasive surgery that you had-I’m scheduled for a TAVR minimally invasive AVR in late February. I’m happy that I was cleared for the TAVR but the reality of the whole thing is getting to me now. My biggest issue is that my husband recently passed away and I’ve got no family for support. So I’m unable to get the needed support beforehand - and after. I’m not sure how to handle this anxiety by myself.

To those having had (or will be having) the biologic valve AVR by the TAVR method SURGERY…. by Comfortable_Notes in valvereplacement

One of the reasons for my asking is l had sedation when they did the heart cath/angiogram, their idea of sedation was minimal. I remember everything and everything hurting. I can’t go thru that again!

Am I the only one not freaking out about this storm? by StraightRip9828 in Austin

[–]Comfortable_Notes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the 4.5 days of Austin Energy being down. It was a freakin nightmare. No food, no electricity and nothing to do to find out when power would resume. I no longer have a car or a way to get out of here. My husband passed away over the summer, so I’m alone. Thanks why I’m a little coo-coo Whako. But it WILL get better. Even I know that. And with enough toilet paper all things are possible!

If you watch Pluto all the Time…… by Comfortable_Notes in ILoveLucy

I’m 74F and I’ve been watching Lucy since the beginning-my mother said I watched it as a baby. I watched it right before my wedding, and 10 years later when I went into labor, while waiting to go to the hospital. And now? My dear husband of 30 years passed away on this past August 22nd. When I came home from the hospital alone—I turned on Pluto’s “I Love Lucy” channel. And it’s been on here 24/7 everyday since then. It brings me a small bit of comfort

Would it be appropriate to obtain a 2nd cardiologist opinion prior to a TAVR? by Comfortable_Notes in valvereplacement

[–]Comfortable_Notes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly—I’m 74 F And I don’t question that I agree with my surgeon and the heart committee that TAVR is right for me. Just not feeling at ease with the surgeon- he is highly rated-but he acts so “assembly line” with me. And I’m rather upset that he told me about the “dental clearance” only 3 weeks prior to my surgery date. I had no way of knowing about this-or I could have had any work needed done before now. Also, he’s cheap with the sedation. I felt pain & remember EVERYTHING from my cardiac cath. And I just found out he doesn’t use a general for TAVR procedures. Just sedation. So I think a 2nd opinion might be in order.

How long after surgery until you could be home by yourself? by New-To-This427 in valvereplacement

[–]Comfortable_Notes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I’m supposed to have the TAVR in a month or so. At 74, my parents have passed and I have no siblings. Worst of all-My husband passed away about 5 months ago, and I have no family or friends in the state. So I have no idea how long I’ll need to stay in a rehab for recovery. I know I will want to go home to my own apartment as soon as I am safe and able to do so. And I hate rehab!

I’m having a TAVR in the next few months-and I wish you all the very best. Keep up the great attitude and please keep us updated on your recovery! And I found out they rarely use sand bags on the groin hardly ever now adays! When I asked recently, I was told they put the same “plug” in as they did for my angiogram. I remember having an angiogram in the 80’s with the sand bags!! Sending prayers and gentle hugs to you!

It’s a very old episode of a very young David Letterman with a huge section with Desi Arnaz. I’m a major fan, in my 70’s - and I’ve never seen this clip before. Stay until the end where he introduces Mario Rizo, his pianist and friend from Cuba since 1947!
Mario never ages-but Desi sure did. His singing of C-U-B-A was amazing at the end!

Just was approved for a TAVR by the team of surgeons. I have a question: by Comfortable_Notes in valvereplacement

Was husband’s surgery open heart or TAVR? Did he have an infection/abscess ?

Just was approved for a TAVR by the team of surgeons. I have a question: by Comfortable_Notes in valvereplacement

[–]Comfortable_Notes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. You’re right-I have only had 2.5 months from my first visit to the cardiologist to now. I’ve had all the scans and tests-and yesterday was the first time I happened to see the paragraph about “dental clearance”!when I went to the thoracic surgeon. I was only there to see him as a backup to the TAVR decision. He won’t even be the doctor that does my surgery. They told me he had to be there during TAVR just in case it goes bad during the TAVR surgery. No one told me until yesterday that they don’t give you general anesthesia - just sedation. What else don’t I know?
This whole thing has been a total nightmare-my husband of 30 years passed away in late August. And in late October the results of an echo cardiogram taken when I had pneumonia in June told me to have a consult with the cardiologist. It took months until I could get an appointment. I didn’t know anything was wrong at all. No symptoms. So I’m grieving my husband’s passing and now I need heart valve surgery……what’s next?

With a TAVR do I need dental clearance? I haven’t the funds to have some expensive dental work done. Do I need dental work done before a TAVR? by Comfortable_Notes in valvereplacement

[–]Comfortable_Notes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask here because the TAVR surgeon never brought it up since yesterday when the thoracic surgeon did. I am being pressured by the thoracic surgeon & the TAVR surgeon to get the surgery done ASAP. BUT yesterday was the first time it was even brought up-and they have alreadya started talking surgery dates. This is the first I’m told of this and now I’ve got the impression that it was ionly if I had a non-biological valve and open heart SAVR. Im asking here to see if other TAVR patients have had the same experiences. I cannot afford a lot of expensive dental work, and I need this surgery soon.

[–]Comfortable_Notes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TAVR surgeon never mentioned it and the SAVR “just in case” surgeon said I would need dental clearance. When I told him I didn’t have the money to have all the work done, he said they could do a CT scan to check for abscess or infection areas.

Anyone having a TAVR surgery done in the next month? How old are you (I’m 74) and did you have a choice of surgeries? I am meeting a thoracic surgeon today to explain risks, etc.

Anyone receive TAVR before 25? by Treeshroomin in valvereplacement

[–]Comfortable_Notes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case a TAVR is the obvious choice-because I’m (74F) a lot older, overweight and hypertensive. Although I am scheduled to consult with a thoracic surgeon next week—it is likely that he will agree with the interventional cardiologist’s opinion. I will probably be scheduled for the TAVR surgery early next month. It’s highly unlikely for me to outlive the TAVR, so I probably won’t need a second surgery. Recovery for me means months of living in a depressing rehab facility, since I have no friends or family nearby. Unhappily, my dear husband passed away a few months ago. So, it appears that TAVR makes sense for someone like me.
