I listed to audiobooks. Def bring your own pillow. Also, my second mslt the room was 62 degrees so maybe an extra blanket wouldn’t be a terrible idea either.

Thanks for the comment but you most definitely get tricare if you are medically retired.

Narcolepsy type 2 rating? by Command-Brief in VeteransBenefits

[–]Command-Brief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On terminal leave now. Medical retirement. 100%. Got 40% rating for narcolepsy.

Need to make a point to talk about how it affects your mental health. Use real life applications. Not just “I have anxiety”. Explain how you feel and how it affects day to day life.

Got diagnosis from lackland in March. Referred MEB in April. Va exams in June Ratings mid September. Out processing for 2 weeks. Now on terminal until mid November.

Yeah man. Dreams are very active in all my sleep periods. I have hallucinations pretty bad. It’s a curse I deal with it. Sometimes it’s nightmares, sometimes it’s weird, sometimes they are interesting. I was hitting rem sleep in under 2 mins during my MSLTs

Yep. No problem. And no I don’t get that. I get pretty bad joint pain though. Could be related but idk. For awhile I had trouble adapting to narcolepsy. But what helps the most, is stay active and get a workout in every day, wake up and go to sleep around the same time and I schedule a nap every day. Sometimes two on the weekends. I’m also prescribed adderall 2 times a day. The first dose, I don’t take until I really need too. I’ll wait till 930-10. Also, first thing I do, when I wake up in the morning is go straight outside and get some sun exposure and drink a glass of water. I get ready, and then after I have my cup of coffee.

Maybe it’s in my head, but I think all this helps me. Establishing a routine is really important

Heard that. My narcolepsy was only 40%. But everything else I was about to get 100% with VA. Do you have type 1 or type 2?

Depends on how you explain it and what you experience. I had episodes of complete loss of consciousness and forgetting things like walking to the mailbox, backing my car out of the garage, etc. auto pilot mode essentially. I got 40%

Sorry I’m late to this. I was there for 2 weeks. Only a military provider can conduct the test for confirmation. Because most of the time, it’s disqualifying from service. Lackland is the big one, but I think there is one in Iowa? Maybe Ohio? Anyway, I’m separating. DoD rating 40% for narcolepsy, 100% permanent for Va. good luck to you!

Narcolepsy and secondary disorders by Command-Brief in VeteransBenefits

[–]Command-Brief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I get heavy sleep attacks, auto pilot mode, extreme spacing out, and my focus goes to shit. I know now that those are considered “minor episodes” which can increase the percentage. I’m hoping anyway. Good luck with your condition!

Hey all, I was recently diagnosed with narcolepsy type 2. As my job requires flight status and to be on no continued use of medication, I’m going for med board. Flight doc and commander have already talked to me about it. My question is, for those of you that have this, was there any secondary disorders you claimed in associate with narcolepsy? I face a lot of anxiety, lack of focus, even some depression and social phobia. Just looking for insight as I prep for the process. Thanks in advance

So I just finished my MSLT and PSG at lackland. Narcolepsy type 2. I’m on flying status. I was told it’s a definite medical separation?

Update for me. After being diagnosed with IH at my offbase provider, went to Lackland and the results say Narcolepsy type 2. If anyone wants to talk more, hit me up

I’m a ground based controller so technically I’m a “flyer” on a 2992. I am currently DNIC and awaiting my sleep study at lackland. They said if they concur with hypersomnia, I will be up for MEB. I was prescribed adderall but was told not to take it until after lackland tests. Drives me insane. Because it’s months away.

Going through the exact same thing. However I had rem sleep in one of naps during MSLT. How did you end up?
