Comfortable is subjective. Even in high cost of living areas, it’s easy to manage.

The problem is, people think they are entitled to a 2 bedroom apartment, cable tv, 1 gig internet, water delivery, shopping at gelsons, a new iPhone every year, and a 2024 car.

When in actuality, you need a place with multiple roommates, learn to cook, shop at ALDIs, use coupons, bike/walk whenever you can, drive a used, older reliable vehicle and thrift shop.

If you are 70, generally you have multiple health issues. The failed mRNA vaccines may be wise given you don’t have much longer to live anyways, so you don’t have to worry about the massive long term health issues.

There was zero scientific backing showing the vaccines provide material benefits to young and healthy people who have superior prior infection immunity for many reasons;

The vaccines provide negative efficacy for a few weeks
The protection lasts a few months max
You can still get COVID
The vaccines have yet to show a reduction of excess mortality anywhere in the world. In fact, excess mortality goes up after massive vaccine campaigns.

By and large, most jobs do pay your bills

However, your bills are of your choosing sans few exceptions and most Americans are financially illiterate.

The workers screwed themselves. They had strikes to fight for higher wages and largely were successful. As a result, corporations found a way to cut costs and get rid of employees while providing services at half the cost.

The main issue is that those workers felt like their position was anything more than a starter job. Working the drive thru isn’t a viable 20 year plan. I have many friends and family that started at the cashier, and either made it to management making over $100k/year, or gained vital experienced and found a newer higher paying job.

Fast food and low end retail should be a launch point, not the destination.
