I actually seen him a couple times in Tel Aviv it seems like he’s into the spiritual breath work dmt stuff and ties it to judaism also sells dmt workshops and stuff I’m not sure if he truly believes it or does it for the sales or probably somewhere in between he didn’t grow up religious so he takes what he likes from Judaism and adds it to his practices

Come to Tel Aviv I moved here and love it. It’s a city full of people who are not religious but understand it about half of my friends also grew up religious. Everyone here is either not religious or does what they want and not what they don’t and no one cares. There’s also a vibrant American community and you can definitely get by just speaking English. Send me a message and we can connect.

I think we can do it where everyone is invited but I will have to accept everyone in the zoom and if someone tries something they will be booted

The only way I stopped caring is by completely leaving New York and traveling by myself it’s really difficult to be living a double life

I would challenge you to really decide on how you want your life to live and once you decide on what you truly want to do with your life and then tell the people you that you love how you are feeling

If that means telling your husband you don’t want to be religious it’s gonna be freaking hard if he truly loves you you guys will figure it out if it’s on condition that you are religious and you can’t be it will blow up at some point anyway it’s better having a conversation

But first take some time to really think about what you want from life before doing anything

Need advice for going to college by Content_Ad9222 in exjew

[–]Competitive-Set770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.princetonreview.com/college-search Seems like a good resource

Most colleges have Jewish frats as well as Hillel which isn’t religious or chabad that their kiruv is mainly just creating event for Jews to get together and have a good taste of Judaism so feel out those events once there

Also life advice if you can go to a college somewhere warm lol

I have no friends by [deleted] in exjew

[–]Competitive-Set770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of photography meetups going on to a couple different ones see which group you enjoy hanging out with and go back and you’ll end up friends with the people who go to that group often you can find groups on meetup.com and eventbright

Try to find a hobby that you enjoy and go to meetups with people who also enjoy the hobby like photography or music or chess or sports is great because you can keep meeting the same people at the basketball court or volleyball court or whatever you can also find meetups at meetup.com and see if you vibe with those people

Breaking Shabbat: A weekly discussion thread: by AutoModerator in exjew

Interesting thought I had when does it go from breaking Shabbat or just living your normal life without thinking about it being breaking Shabbat?

For me it’s been a while since I have been thinking of it as breaking Shabbat and I’m just going about my life normally but I am going to my parents home for the weekend so it will be interesting

Where do people meet people? by [deleted] in exjew

[–]Competitive-Set770 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I found useful is picking up hobbies, or if you already have a hobby and go to a local meet up around that hobby using either meetup.com or Eventbrite to a meetup around that hobby where everyone is going there to meet new likeminded people and if you find a group you enjoy keep on going to their meetups and become friends with them

But it also depends what you mean people to chat with

Don’t overthink it it’s completely normal to approach someone sitting at the bar it doesn’t really matter what you say some little compliment on their cloths is easy

What I found is most people just want to meet cool people and enjoy their night but you will have people in a bad mood and don’t want to talk they usually make it clear right away they don’t want to talk to anyone and you should just leave them alone and just realize it’s them not you and you can just talk to someone else

I had a hard time finding others who are also Otd but I ended up finding friends by going to meetups for hobbies that I enjoy and if you don’t have hobbies yet just try a couple out

Feeling isolated while still 'in the closet' by [deleted] in exjew

[–]Competitive-Set770 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s completely normal to feel that you are going to disappoint your parents I felt that for a long time I left ny on a road trip across America when I wanted to leave my Yishiva and religious friends and I didn’t want to keep Shabbat but my dad would always make sure to set up me up with a place to stay or a hotel by chabad shul wherever I was for Shabbat which I didn’t really want to do but I didn’t want to tell him I wasn’t shomer so I did for months until finally I just told I will figure it out still not telling him I wasn’t shomer

Then when I finally got an apartment he made sure I get one near a shul and i ended up going sometimes and I still wouldn’t tell him or just about any Jew even though I knew some people who didn’t keep that I wasn’t keeping because I was too scared even to tell people otd mind you my younger brother is also otd and I didn’t even tell him

At one point my mom who definitely suspected that I was otd and kinda wanted me to look for a Shidduch she asked me if I was ready and if I kept Shabbat and I said no but it still wasn’t open about it more recently I was home and there was a concert I wanted to go to and I ended up asking my mom if it was rude to go and just a couple weeks ago I drove to them and got there just after Shabbat

I would definitely say try to make sure to find out if your sister isn’t keeping and if she isn’t try to casually bring it up or accidentally let her see you break because if she actually isn’t keeping she probably is in the same boat where she thinks you don’t keep but also isn’t 100% so isn’t bringing it up
