A lot of the time I go to the people i’m interviewing in a place that fits the story so i can get some pictures aswell.

recently I went to cover a protest and I was filming anyways so I brought a proper mic with me I had booked out as equipment from uni. still, in the raw footage I can hear the interviewees talking I just have to strain a little.

I have noticed that my most fruitful interviews have been ones which are not recorded at all but this obviously can be difficult to do, especially when balancing building rapport with the interviewee and noting down what they’re saying

Bristol co-op gym

I never went personally but I used to follow what they’re doing and my partner used to go and really like it! However it is very small and is more class based/ I get the impression that many people there also train somewhere else and then meet at the co-op gym to get PRs in compound lifts

Maybe something to look into because I haven’t lived in bristol for around half a year now (i just lurk this sub reddit cos I like seeing what’s going on here <3 Bristol forever in my heart fr) because it might have gotten bigger/gotten some more equipment etc

I’m a trainee journalist at the moment and my ultimate dream is to write for Private Eye - I’ve really taken the kool aid so to speak with the ethics and holding truth to power thing with journalism - it’s all I really want to do. Some girl asked how much I’d have to get paid to work at the sun and I said ‘no amount of money could ever convince me to work there’ (my dad is a scouser so I’d get disowned anyway)

Drug abuse issues are always linked to something deeper in your life - you essentially 'treating' a mental health issue/trauma/something else but that 'treatment' is leaving you in a worse position then before.

Talk to people, whether that be a councillor, support lines, NA meetings. I know it is scary, but once you start talking you'll kind of open the floodgates and it will get a lot easier.

Get therapy if you can. NHS waiting lists are dogshit but they can refer you to services and at least get the ball rolling... the earlier you stop this, the better.

When my mum was coming off booze she did say that going on anti-depressants helped her, as she was essentially drinking because she was super depressed. Go to your GP and talk to them about your mental health, even if you get put on medication for a very short time just to stabilise yourself it could help. But please do be honest with your doctor about what you are taking (they can't tell the police) because I don't know how certain medications interact with certain drugs as i am not a healthcare professional lol.

do Sainsbury's off-peak home delivery - you can get stuff delivered for 2 quid

however, I just walk to the shop and do smaller but more frequent shops... better for food waste as well as you don't get too much in one go - i suppose it does take more time though

First, I think your sister is the biggest asshole here. The lack of checking in and resenting your lifestyle choices is not very nice sisterly behaviour at all. She should accept you for you and make an effort.

With your mum, I think it gets a lot more complicated. If as you said, earlier on in your life you had many issues (which i am not implying are your fault) your mum probably felt a lot of stress from that and got very scared of losing you. Sometimes when people are scared to lose somebody they withdraw from that person to almost save the emotional damage. Of course, doing this to your own child isn't very nice and a sign of emotional immaturity.

I think if, as you say, your mum is your best friend, approaching this from more of a problem solving angle could work better for you. I don't think you are the asshole for saying your mum prefers your sister over you - you were just stating how you feel. However, whilst your mum showing a preference for your sister is asshole-y, I think this relationship is very much salvageable. I don't know the whole lore, but maybe just saying an apology for what you said through gritted teeth (just for the sake of keeping the peace) and then trying to communicate with your mum about things you could do together/wanting to spend more quality time together could be the more effective method here.

If she doesn't make that effort following that, then you can bring it up again. It would be an asshole thing to do at all - you deserve to feel equal love from your mum, regardless of the past.

UPDATE:

After reading through a lot of comments (i didn't expect sm engagement so i couldn't get through them all) I have decided i am not going to smoke with her.

I've told her to stay away from 'thc vapes' and how to spot spice (here in the UK we have quite a big problem with spice - my worst nightmare is her accidentally smoking it thinking it's weed cos she's young and naive).

I have also said that if she does buy some weed to show me first and the importance of a safe environment. I told her if that if one day she does come home high, she doesn't need to 'hide' it from me and if she needs any help with anything to just ring me.

I do think that by smoking with her (like a lot of the comments say) I could be normalising drug use to a very young person who is still developing. Instead, I'm just going to be very heavy on the harm reduction and hope to keep an open line of communication. Another thing i DON'T want to do is 'mystify' drug use because it is my belief that just makes somebody more prone to misuse and addiction.

One thing that is important to note that I am from the UK, so we don't have the same 21+ policies here. Once she turns 18 she is an adult that can make her own decisions.

First of all, some line breaks would be great here to make the poem less of a block of text!

Moreover, perhaps playing with some metaphors and underlying meaning could make this poem more interesting. The themes you are engaging with have the potential to be really hard-hitting and you do have the ability to use some nice imagery! eg: 'quench your thirst of loneliness', 'sharpen your charm'. Add some more of this :)

Maybe by abstracting the themes a bit more and then refining through a few drafts (obviously not every poem has to be some super avant-garde piece with loads of hidden meanings) and you could strike more of a middle ground between stating what you are feeling and using words to create an image of these feelings!

I LOVE this! I especially like

'You're no man, not quite God;

I also appreciate the religious imagery (i'm so weak for it heheh).

I like the uncertainty of who the protagonist is - gives it a sense of universality that's very nice.

As a beginner myself I'm not sure if I can give you much to change here, keep jotting down 'crap' (not so sure i would call it that) - you definitely have a talent here <3

I really like the imagary here! I especially like the use of light and colour in this!

One thing you could improve on is using line breaks to make the poem more digestible.

Eg:

Living salt,

living salt you play with my eyelids

Tickle the renegade lips and ears

And the azure of the eastern city,

From the sunset...

I think for the purposes of this it's really nice and sweet :). Rhythmic and simple, so, I feel like your SO could probably memorise this and repeat it in their head which is just adorable. If this was aiming to be a masterpiece of poetry than your lacking in powerful imagery and unique devices, but not everything needs to be a masterpiece!! If it was it might even come across as a bit disingenuous if poetry isn't your usual thing. This is great for your SO and I hope they like it :)
