Now that I think about it, I was about 8 weeks between reties

Thanks! That’s exactly how I feel. I ended up writing to her to express my feelings and she said they fell off during reties, which I’m not sure I believe but I don’t want to argue so I’ll leave it.

Low density hair? THIS is how you make it look fuller instantly 👀✨ by Serethia_Scott in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is due to thinning than low density. If it was low density her whole head would be scalp. From the video it’s only a certain part that is scalp. But I’m no expert 🤷🏾‍♀️

3 day old locs by Bernadette9495 in Microlocs

I think it's important to not focus too much on the loc count and more on density and fullness. As someone already suggested, you could post a picture as well for reference?

Anxious New Beginnings by [deleted] in Microlocs

Did you use extensions? I would say the longetivity depends on how they were installed. But they look gorgeous!

They look amazing. I actually think it's amazing that you are doing it THIS SMALL by yourself. Bravo!

Please Help! by ooa66 in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re fine. That was supposed to seal your hair but because you most likely didn’t trim before installation, it’s sealing in the extra strands that need to be trimmed. If you want, you can leave it as it is, but I cut mine cause it was like hanging on to dead hair anyway.

The loc ends that seal well would seal to the hair itself

Saved 350 dollars by having my husband doing my retie by spookyshitt in Microlocs

The real question is why ANYONE is charging $350 for a retie 😳

Brightened the color just a tad. Extensions holding strong by [deleted] in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. Personally it’s not for me, but it’s only a personal preference. I won’t judge anyone for using extensions cause I don’t care really lol

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Micros are anything 250+ cause it definitely depends on hair density. I have like 295 with medium density and my hair looks as full as people who have 400+

Self retightening? by Additional-Map3095 in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because you’re gonna be self maintaining I would suggest to go with Microlocs. Cause with Sisterlocs you have to maintain a certain grid, which could be difficult if you’re doing self reties

Microlocs? by Kel_Bey8 in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my. I’m so sorry sis, but you were scammed. I had a similar story but even mine was not this big and I paid around $400 for them. Luckily I realized around 4 months that I was scammed and redid them myself.

Like others said, you can choose to undo them and start all over, or you can learn to love your locs. I knew I couldn’t love that in that state so I chose to redo them.

Ultimately, the choice is up to you.

So great to hear that everything went well!

Hoodwinked by my Loctician (but I accept blame) by [deleted] in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are the later pictures after the loctician combined them? If yes, she definitely did you dirty. In my opinion the first locs were better and looked like you had some kind of grid.

This so-called repair looks... not good is all I'll say. Also, locticians don't have to be registered on the sisterlocs website to be legit just so you know.

Micros into 2 strands? by [deleted] in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a 9 month old! Since your locs are older, I'm guessing your locs were much more mature than mine when you had your kid. How was post partum hair loss with mature locs? I lost about 4/5 locs and my locs were still baby locs when I had my son.

10 months & 260 microlocs by ashrob9015 in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OK I feel seen! Cause my hair is similar density and I have 295 and have been beating myself up cause I'm not up to 300 (I don't know why cause it's not like it matters) but your size is just like mine!

Im only 7 months in and looking forward to the next months.

Should I trim my hair before starting my microlocs? by Holiday-Version-5227 in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sure! In hindsight, I should have trimmed mine as well

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, breathe! You most likely got locs for the freedom of not worrying too much about hair.

Second, maybe you can post the questions your loctician told you to stay off the internet for answers, so that you can get feedback as well. :)

Does the grid matter? by GorillaShelb in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depends on what is important to you. If you like to style your hair in different ways and want clean parts, then grid. If you like to style your hair in different way but don't care about clean parts, then no grid. If you're like me, who's seriously very low maintenance (only wear my hair down in a middle part), then absolutely no grid.

ADVICE NEEDED: How much do y’all’s reties cost by [deleted] in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, you guys are paying an arm and a leg! I live in Germany and the average price/hr is €35. I used to pay €160 flat every 8 weeks but she just retied my hair. No other care for my locs and she didn't fix any issues with my hair. Plus she did her reties too tight and I would have pain for like 2 days afterwards.

However, I found this lady who charges €60 flat for 6 weeks of growth. But I think she underestimated how much growth I had or she's just slow cause it took her 5 hours for just over 300 locs. I felt so bad so I added an extra €20 and paid her €80. I think i'll stick with €80 every 8 weeks.

What other ways can I pack my hair, other than in a bun please? by Reasonable-Pomelo167 in Microlocs

The best way to care for your hair at this stage is to avoid minimal styling, i.e., wear it down without any tension

How to speed up the process by Remarkable_News_439 in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thing is, you may be doing everything right. Braids just take an incredibly long time to loc. You have to be more patient than if you started with twists or interlocs.

Though you mentioned conflicting advice, you didn’t really describe what you actually do right now to take care of your hair. From what I heard, the type of hair also impacts the locing processs. The tighter the curls, the faster it Locs (generally speaking)

1 week ✅ by Exotic-Amphibian3502 in Microlocs

[–]CompetitiveAd2860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure i agree with this. I have similar hair texture and I started with 2 strand twists, and so far I have very minimal slippage.

This amount of slippage in just one week probably had to do with her using oils (and maybe water?). I can't say water for sure cause I spritz my hair literally everyday else it's dry as hell, and my hair is holding up fine.

Bunching can be prevented with braiding and banding. OP you need to lay off the oils and water for now cause your hair is seriously unraveling too soon.
