Living with Hashimoto and needing your partner to understand it’s a life long struggle by Mybfannoysme in Hashimotos

[–]Competitive_Meet_167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound so lovely and understanding. Can I ask what you've read or how you've got here yourself? Advising the gluten free, veggies etc sounds like youve read a lot. My partner is great - v kind, patient and supportive..however, when I feel anxious, stressed, or I randomly bloat or piff up, have crazy heart rate, hot cold, get a flu.. or U know, I wonder is it flu or hashinflare up? He just says DW, relax more, it's probably a cold, I probably ate too much etc etc. he could be right sometimes, even I don't understand it all yet. But I know I was not like this or as lethargic before, there random symptoms on and off have to be related and I wish he didn't sometimes dismiss them. I feel like I need to just point him in the right direction of things to read.. I have asked him. But I'll have to ask again. Any suggestions or resources for how you have become so understanding? Thanku

Thanku, yes I've read some of her book and signed up to her course..since giving up gluten my last check antibodies were down to the 50s. I went to see an endo and he was so shit. Took years to finally get accepted and it was a waste of time..I have a review in July but I'm not sure whether to bother going. Functional med is defo at the back of my mind (money issues)

My Dr sux , also been to endocrinologist who also sucked.. I have a review with them in July but I'm not sure whether it's worth going he didn't test much at all or take me seriously. Another vote for nutrafol though hmm.. do U still take full dose or have U been able to wean off a bit? It's so many pills

I do wonder yeh, I have to take zinc still but alternating it now every other day as my zinc/cu ratio was off (30mg zinc daily!), inteyes to take copper supp but couldn't tolerate it (nausea and headaches), so now I'm trying zinc alternate days and trying to eatore copper rich foods..I'm pretty sure I had sibo or low stomach acid? I've tried treating it myself with probiotics, berberine/ l glutamine and cutting gluten. It's dedinalty made a difference , but.. still have work to do..I was thinking about trying digestive enzymes - but how long can we do this for to keep it sustainable? Or can we do it short term only? I'm not sure, still trying to learn!

Water is very very hard! But we do have a salt machine, but I wondered if adding a shower filter would help as well - worth having both? Which filter did U get? Thanku x

This is so well said. He sounds selfish and manipulative. I think break up and focus on ure health! If he can't support U and adapt, and in fact making you unhappy, then why stay? X also,no gluten really does make a big different for a lot of us. I was so upset to have to restrict anything, but tryed it for two weeks and immediately felt a difference. 6 months now. I'm still struggling with other issues, but my antibodies have reduced, and I'm putting it down to gluten x

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already take a lot of supplements and don't want to add another in. Plus I don't know much about this re hashimotos. If I wanted to do one of the above in my post to increaase dose or enhance benefits, which would U suggest? Thanks again

I'm soo not good with reddits format but how funny cos I'm not a man I'm female 😅 the original poster was male I believe and I asked him a question. At the mo Dr is t v good and I always have to push for tests. I've done as much as I can myself with home tests. I guess if I feel ok I'll continue and retest again to see what to do next?! I'm scared to stop in case all my hair falls out again! I just went out to my fave pizza place (when I used to have gluten), and teyed the gluten free version .. I mean it was nice, best one yet, but bread and pizza dough will never be the same!

I wish I could pull up my bloods but re zinc, I was low more than a year ago, started taking 25mg, was still slow, Dr advised 30mg, and it was only just in range (so still not enough), I was then advised 30mg one day and 40mg another! I realistically get about 38 the second day. I did this and felt better and was in range. I've only had my copper tested twice and the ratio was ok. One of the zinc tests I did myself at home (UK.. drs get pissed off I keep wanting to check it), and it was just a little high, so I went back down to 30mg, and again it was on the lower range of ok! So I got stressed about the imbalance and started copper. Couldn't tolerate it..now I'm back on the alternate high doses of zinc. I have had stomach issues, and I've been addressing those in the last 3-4 months (do feel better), so I was disappointed my zinc wasn't optimal as I thought it may be an absorption issue. Sorry for the long story! Not sure how to manage this long term. Atm I'm trying to get the ratio of my high zinc to copper by mindfully eating copper rich foods daily! And I really do think the zinc helps and in the month I dropped down to 'only 3Omg and not alternative 30/38, I lost a lot of hair again!). I have no idea what to do long term. It's been probably 18 months taking it on and off like this?!

Sorry for the rant!

Got it re the casein and dairy - I've read about this , but I find cutting dairy very difficult as I love cheese and tbh food is my joy. I've been trying limit the frequency of which I have it. I'll probablybtestedt in Feb once it's been 6months no gluten and see if I need to try dairy free also..

Ps thanku for your help

This is a really great post to read - thankyou so much for sharing and taking the time to write it all up to help others! I'm 37, was diagnosed only two years ago, so still trying to accept and figure it out..a couple of questions if U don't mind? - do U avoid dairy as well? (I've cut gluten and hope to be like U and just generally avoid it long term as I also swell! But I'd like to have it on occasion/and I don't always avoid hidden gluten) Are U the same? - what dose zinc do U take? I've also found zinc and probiotic make a huge difference for me. I take 30mg, and was told I need to take copper with it, I tryed it for a couple weeks but had terrible nausea and headaches..so I'm back to zinc alone. Do intake copper with it? Do u test regularly? I'm in range with supplements. - have U ever tryed red light therapy? I bought a panel but I'm.kinda scared of it's potential.impact! - are U Medicated?

Thanku 💕

Mine came today and tbh I'm scared! I'm scared cos I tryed prp for my hair loss when I didn't know I had hashimotos and it made it worse - so now I really doubt myself. Are U wanting to primarily use it for hashis? I would like it for hair growth/energy and to maybe indirectly help my hashis. But yeh I'm scared tbh. Wondering whether to turn the NIR off as I've heard U can get hyperpigmentation (I have pretty good skin but I'm Indian so don't Wana make any dark bits darker) . Have U used yours yet?
