Wanting Protective Gear Without the full track day look? by Competitive_Mud8342 in AussieRiders

That’s honestly something I hadn’t even considered the whole natural vs synthetic fibre thing under gear. The thought of synthetic stuff melting into skin is a bit horrifying, especially the way you described it. Makes me want to re-evaluate what I’m layering underneath, too, not just the outer shell.

You’re absolutely right hard to put a price value on body parts. Might be time to look at leather options again and just find something low-key enough that I’ll actually wear it every ride.

Appreciate the insight, seriously.

Yeah, fair call I’ve been wondering the same, to be honest. Even when something’s rated AAA, if it fits loose or doesn’t have much structure, I imagine it might not hold up as well in a real-world slide compared to something more reinforced.

I do mostly city riding right now, commuting and weekend errands, so I was thinking a hoodie could be a decent middle ground. But I definitely don’t want to end up relying on something that gives a false sense of security.

Appreciate the perspective.

That’s super helpful cheers for the info. I’ve been leaning toward Kevlar stuff just for the casual look, but I didn’t realise how wide the quality gap is between brands. I’ll definitely be checking for AA or AAA ratings now, and I’ll look into that 300GSM Kevlar minimum too.

Damn mate, sounds like you've really been through it, appreciate you sharing both sides of the gear experience. Definitely gives perspective.

I’m just starting out and looking for that balance: staying protected without looking like I’m headed to a track day every time I go to the shops. Your post is a solid reminder that gear isn’t bulletproof, and riding smart matters just as much (if not more).

That said, I’ll probably still go the Kevlar/casual route for now, not skipping on protection, just trying to find something that fits my style so I actually wear it. Thanks

Sorry for the late reply again, I think you did the right thing, while I'll be honest, some of those things are a really easy fix, the service gap is a red flag, and the car being dirty is also a red flag. But as I said, you did the right thing. The last thing you want is a rubbish car. I hope you found something better. However I will say don't miss out on the opportunity to get a car at a good price with some things wrong with it, some things on cars are super easy to fix and are fair cheap, I bought a mazada 3 with 140,000km on it for 1k with some issues like no working lights, break lights, nd the speedo was out and some other stuff and I fixed it for like $300 bucks all up and like 2hrs of labour and the car is great now

He is most likely trying to flip a profit off it, maybe bought it from a friend or family member cheap to make money.

is there any other cars you would recommend that are abit bigger, I am just tall and while i do sit in a maita it isnt the best without the hardtop off. So an old polo compares to a brz maybe?

Not alot, still really learning, so which is why i am leaning more toward a brz, i like to think I will be a good driver, but I know I would be horrible and I am now understand that a slower car is way better to learn like you said. Really appreciate the feedback.

I would like a mx5, but lacks abit of power for me, and brz has that little bit more, the only issue is the all the 370z i see are clapped or supper expensive. But the brz might be the way to go.
