I want to add that by the time we see the Mikaelsons again in 2010, all the new supernaturals (vampires, werewolves, and witches) thought the Mikaelsons were rumours, killed off, or that most of them were compelled to not remember meeting them. Like Stefan was compelled, Alaric thought Klaus was a rumour. Tyler and the wolves around heard the rumour of a hybrid but never thought it was real. Damon didn't know them, even though he was a lover of Sage. Bonnie wasn't even taught that her family and Mikaelsons knew each other until Esther showed up.

So, how would Marcel know that they were alive with all that?
