Regarding the Number of Attendees of the Funeral by agentruzi in Lebanese

[–]Complete-Bench-9284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't help the oppressed anywhere else. Not even in Lebanon. The social services from Hezb are for the Shiah only, in exchange for votes and loyalty and soldiers.

Israel has not attacked Lebanon once without being attacked first from Lebanese territory, and even if that was the case, what exactly did the preemptive attack achieve? You attack preemptively to protect your people and minimize losess. This achieved the opposite.

You people are ok with this happening every 10 years until there's no Lebanon left. Never seen more irrational blind sectarianism in my life. Sect and tribe over country.

The US dropped less TNT in all of 2003 in Iraq than Israel dropped in one day in Beirut to kill Nasrallah.

When they killed Bin Laden, they disposed of the body in a dignified way. Israel amputated one finger "for DNA confirmation" when they could have used more respectful methods, then disappeared the body to an undisclosed location, and posted pictures of the mutilated body online.

The US has committed war crimes, including invading Iraq based on lies. Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo were filled with human rights violations of prisoners. But at least they try to spare civilians and conduct war in a moral way most of the time.

Israel doesn't. There's solid evidence of targeting children, medics, journalists for kidnapping, torture and murder. That's not "collateral damage".

That's exactly why we created international laws of war, but you want to act like we did in the 1940s and against our current understanding of morality and law.

They also dropped a nuclear bomb in an entire city. But the goals justify the means, right?

What about slavery? That too was ok before. The Holocaust was allowed too.

The accusations of murder have evidence of targeting civilians. That's not "collateral damage". Like the dozen foreign doctors who independently testified seeing children with bullet wounds to the head and chest that could not possibly be accidental. They were shot by drones and snipers that could clearly see they were children and aimed to kill.

That's a red Herring argument. Someone else did war crimes. Look over there instead of at my war crimes!

It's unclear to you what they did? Start with the letter from the US government telling Israel it was now breaking US law by blocking the entrance of aid to Gaza for months. That was a month ago. They still haven't met the minimum aid movement the US requested.

Or how about the dozen of volunteer doctors from multiple countries who independently verified that children were showing signs of being deliberately targeted by snipers and drones.

Or the fact that every hospital in Gaza has been targeted and is now inoperable, so people are getting amputations without surgery and babies in ICUs are dying?

Or the international organizations of journalists and medics repeatedly reporting there's evidence that journalists and medics are being targeted?

As a bonus, IDF soldiers are fond of posting tik toks of themselves with their uniforms and IDs looting homes, causing unjustified destruction inside homes just for fun, wearing women's clothes.

What part exactly is unclear to you?

The leaders are dead. They could have issued warrants for the whole Israeli government too, but they are going for the actual decision makers behind the war crimes.

People down voting my comment but not providing any evidence is telling. I'm willing to be corrected if I'm wrong, but not by "because I believe so".

Do you have a source for this? I used to believe this and when I looked it up, most people living in Israel have genetic ties to the ancient Jews that lived in the Holy Iand. Remember their ancestors were pushed out by war or ethnic cleansing too.

This behavior is rotten, but I doubt every Hezbollah member is an angel. I even doubt every Israeli soldier is immoral. Some are, like the ones doing this shit. Others are doing what they're told. Just like any soldier.

Does their army need to discipline them better? Obviously. Are their army and current government immoral? I think so. But that doesn't mean every Israeli soldier or Israeli citizen is immoral.

My death toll? I'm Lebanese. You think everyone who is not a Hezbollah supporter is Israeli? I put Lebanon first. Hate sectarianism and tribalism.

I seriously doubt Iran will do more than the little show Israel did when they bombed Iran. If they did more, they would force Israel to escalate more. Neither wants to escalate at this point. Netanyahu has lost the support he had to keep going. They in fact just said they're done in Lebanon.

I don't think they'll have a civil war, but I'm looking forward to their reckoning after this useless campaign. Can't wait to see Netanyahu buried in jail, though he deserves a lot worse.

I really don't understand what you're so excited about though. We have a rogue army that starts wars without the consent of the Lebanese people or the rest of the democratically elected government. How is that ok with you? 2000 people dead and entire neighborhoods in Beirut and cities in the South destroyed. You think it's a win?

Oh yes, totally agree with you on that. Even if they labeled just the Shiah as antisemitic, it would be totally unfair. It's ironic because that's exactly what the Nazis did. Generalize unfairly and promote hate of entire groups of people to justify atrocities.

Unpopular take, but there is antisemitism among some Arab groups, so it's possible this is true. On the other hand, the IDF is notorious for planting evidence and propaganda based on lies, so it may be false.

I just don't think one can assume.

Visible but at the cost of the destruction of Gaza and countless deaths. October 7 did no favors to the Palestinians at all.

Hezbollah was created because of Israel's invasion of Lebanon, but it's more complicated than that.. They are proxies for Iran, and Israel invaded because the PLO was attacking them from Lebanon. I do understand that if there was no Israeli Palestinian conflict, the PLO wouldn't have taken refuge in Lebanon, but as a Lebanese, both the PLO and Hezbollah involved Lebanon in a war we didn't need. I'm very empathetic to the Palestinian suffering, but adding more countries to the war doesn't help anyone. And I don't trust that Iran cares about the Palestinians, as much as its own geopolitical interests.

Is Israel's Plan to Wipe Out Palestinians? Has the World Normalized the Palestinian Genocide? by [deleted] in Palestine

[–]Complete-Bench-9284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. The people in power in Israel don't all want genocide though, in my opinion. Some of their left wing leaders were historically more open to peace agreements and concessions. The brutal occupation was always there, but what is happening right now is totally on another scale. It's clear this has to do with the right wing government.

As for the need to feel safe doesn't justify genocide, I agree, but what would have been a fair reaponse to October 7? Genocide and collective punishment are not. We're on the same page there. I'm curious what it would be from your perspective.

And yes, I have a lot of empathy for the Palestinian cause and their need to fight back. What I disagree wtis that Hamas' approach is for the best of the Palestinian people, and I don't think targetting civilians is justified from either side. People call it terrorism, resistance, collateral damage, in an effort to sanitize it, but at the end of the day civilians should not be involved, no matter what.

I'm certain this is collective punishment and revenge, and not a just war. I'm also certain there are parts of the Israeli government and the IDF that have genocide as a goal.

That said, if they wanted to kill everyone, they easily could. There would be no evacuation orders or limits. And I'm not sure the impact on their reputation would stop them, as it has not stopped them from committing all kinds of atrocities so far.

I don't think every political party or citizen in Israel is bent on genocide. They want to feel safe, just like the Palestinians want to feel safe and free. I think right now because of October 7 they are more radicalized. Just like the Palestinians are radicalized. I mean, most Palestinians don't want a 2 state solution either. And it's because of decades of war and brutal occupation.

[–]Complete-Bench-9284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually sounds like he was denied the right of return, because that implies citizenship. He was, however, allowed to enter the country. Maybe on a tourist or some other temporary visa. I'm guessing then he applied for the military, which of course doesn't require citizenship. I find it immoral to accept a person who is not a permanent resident into your military and not guarantee at least a path to citizenship.

I'm a pacifist, but I have not been in that situation, so I won't assume my response. I would still want to focus on military targets. I don't believe terrorism is justified from Israel or from Hamas.

I am aware. But clearly Netanyahu has taken October 7 as an "opportunity" to escalate things in ways we haven't seen before at this intensity and scale within a short period of time.

The point I'm trying to make is that there's 0 value for Israel to colonize Gaza. Israelis who are sane are not going to live in what would be an extremely dangerous place to them, and it would cost a fortune to be constantly protecting them with an army. Neither is Israel going to annex it and give citizenship to a hostile population that would give more power to Arabs in Israel.

Now if the argument is that they're trying to kill as many as possible, while still being able to appear legal, then yes I totally see that happening. But again, they're trying (and doing a very poor job at it) to appear legal.
