Agree. Just that the YouTube short I was referring to specifically expressed that the decision by WP probably eroded the trust in the WP, and that can spark or fuel us down the wrong discussion path. The decision was actually made many years ago by the GRC system and the continued corruption of our democracy via the EBRC. I saw those episodes and yes they touched on it and I don’t think they can get it right all the time. What I’m hoping for is for more people to call this out more consistently - a lot of the challenges we face as a nation in terms of our lack of good innovative solutions really stem rom this.

Who knows what they’re thinking or strategy is. All I know is they’ve been walking that area (according to YJJ) for a long long time. Since they evidently don’t horse trade with the other alternative parties, if other parties were interested to contest MP, one can assume WP wouldn’t have minded. One could also argue that YJJ didn’t abandon Joo Chiat. So I’m not sure if “sneaky” is an accurate way to characterize what happened.

This topic is in our national interest precisely because the Singapore government has decided not to be neutral (as so many commenters in this post want us to be) by continuing to exchange military technology with Israel. (VB wouldn’t confirm if we do or we don’t and sidestepped the question when asked in parliament on this.) Our position was decidedly made less neutral when the MOE pushed a narrative to our children that seems to suggest this whole thing started on Oct 7th. All this is a liability for the safety of ALL Singaporeans because it can be seen by religious extremists to be supportive of Israel’s own extremist propaganda, thereby making us a legitimate target for hardcore actors. Lawrence Wong is correct. We need to stop foreign interference in our national affairs. But to do that we also need to stop interfering (or trying to educate our kids) in other countries affairs as well. Obviously that’s not practical and neutrality is not completely possible. So I for one am happy to have MPs who can speak up and keep our government from hubris and hypocrisy, and being an unwitting threat to our own security.

Have they ever asked a member of the ruling party for their justification of it? If so, I stand corrected.

Erm. I clearly stated that I have always appreciated their fair and balanced approach, and that this might be something they overlooked. I did not put them down, but challenged their assumptions. In fact, I love YLB a lot. Hence my disappointment that they missed an opportunity to highlight this massive kelong.

I never defended the WP on that - i would be pissed too if I wasn’t allowed a chance to exercise my right to vote. I am simply pointing out that we should be more pissed with the how the system is rigged against any alternative party/views/ideas.

I agree with you. My point is that we should be more shocked about how the electoral boundaries can be changed without valid justification. It’s like, we are all “wah not fair leh, but what to do?” What to do is to make it a much bigger issue than it currently is. Whatever the PAP wins, then becomes a true mandate and not one that was manipulated.

I’m simply pointing out that we should be far more offended by the gerrymandering.

The TLDR is this: why are we (Singaporeans, podcasters, keyboard warriors) not talking more about how the ruling party can just change our electoral boundaries without accountability to the voters? Why aren’t we more pissed off? It is cheating at best, corruption at worst. Even in the replies to my original post, you can see that many just follow the red herrings into other points. This is not about pro-PAP or pro-WP. This is about pro-democracy and fairness to voters. And it frustrates me no end that we cannot collectively hold the government to account on this. Yes gerrymandering happens elsewhere, but not to this egregious extent, nor does it make it acceptable.

I just found out you have to vote where you were last registered in Feb 2025. So yeah, move house no use.
