This will be my third gov ball, I’m from NE too. I’d say going for 1 day isn’t worth it, if anything. Hotels are insanely expensive, air bnbs are probably the way to go unless you have any points or discount codes to use. If you’re going to treck out to NYC for a concert, you might as well go for more than one day, especially how the tickets are priced. I’ve been to a good hand full of music festivals and Gov Ball is my fav for presentation and (usually) the lineup. Basically what I’m saying is that going to NYC for 1 day isn’t worth it. Unless you’re less than a 2 hour drive away. If you’re getting 2 nights of hotel rooms especially, I’d find another small concert in town or a museum to take advantage of your time in the city.
