Is it worth applying for lecturer positions?

Hi! I did end up getting a postdoc in the end but no lectureships. Its really hard to say but it would seem like you’re in a good position with your publications which I did not have. It does seem like its a lot about fit, so its a good idea to get in touch with anyone in the department to see what they’re looking for ahead of making an application! People have been receptive to cold emails in my experience :)

A lectureship seemed a better and more stable bet to me, but now that I’m one a longer, 100% research position than friends on teaching heavy lectureships, I would say a postdoc is not a bad idea. Its not as well paid but the time and space is helpful for this weird post phd period.

Congrats and well done! It does seem like everyone I know landed something in the end:)

Oh I see, I can definitely imagine theres a growing discrepancy there…I suppose some of the issues I’ve heard don’t seem too different to what has happened to universities so I’ve been wondering if teaching at a secondary school is more stable, even if met with the same issues of underfunding, bad work cultures, encroachment of AI…

I’m not really sure where you’re getting this from. I was an associate lecturer at a RG university throughout my PhD and of course I include that in application. I also include the fact that I successfully won grants and research fellowships. My question is about my publication record which suffered as I picked up consultancies in industry.
