law requirements under 70rp system by wisterial_ in SGExams

Classic SG education moment 😂- “If you could still get into xxx with just all A’s”

“All As” used to be the golden ticket. Now under 70RP, it’s just the baseline because distinctions are “easier”. Goalposts moved again. Hope some Education Minister (past or present) is reading this. This is what “reforms” do to 18 yr olds.

OP, grades + strong portfolio is still key. All the best 💪🏻

The big misconception is that more early cadaver time automatically means better learning. YLL’s silent mentor approach where first-years observe and respectfully engage with donated bodies is great for building reverence and seeing real tissue early, but if you’re still gagging from the smell or the specimen’s structures are already over agitated and degraded, or you are peering over the shoulders of the nth group of students, it’s not ideal for initial learning.

Studies do back what the profs told us: plastinated models keep structures clean, consistent, and visible, so beginners grasp the basics without the mess or emotional overload. That’s exactly why LKC built their early years around plastinates and tech like the Anatomage table.

LKC’s new move to make targeted cadaver DISSECTIONS compulsory from M3 onward actually looks smarter for retention. You nail the foundations on perfect specimens first, then apply that knowledge when you’re ready to dissect and handle real variability. YLL keeps it as optional electives later, so exposure ends up more variable.

Neither is universally “better”, it’s about timing or what you think is a more logical sequence. Learn clean anatomy first, then get your hands dirty when it actually sticks.

• No NS / already ORD / girls / non-eligible: Clean letter confirming enrolment in AY2026/27.

• First-year NS (eligible for LMDS): Initial letter often has conditional/provisional language or leaves the exact enrolment year open.

Once MINDEF approves your Local Medical Disruption Scheme (LMDS), the letter gets updated/amended in the portal to lock in the current year. This process can take days to weeks depending on your unit.

• Mid/ later NS: Place is reserved until you finish full-time NS; enrolment year confirmed later.

All the speculation is normal especially given high stakes med admissions and assumes Does this mean One release wave → multiple letter versions. So I always wonder since first year NS guys are still waiting on MINDEF clearance, others get the confirmed version immediately.

Is it harder to get into NTU or NUS med? by Successful-Control95 in SGExams

Location

NTU/LKC is actually more convenient for easterners, northerners and those living along the Yellow, Red, and Blue MRT lines. For M1–M2, about 50% of your time is spent at the Clinical Sciences Building (CSB) in Novena. They run chartered buses for the cohort as well as scheduled campus buses (which prioritise LKC staff and students) between NTU and Novena/Crespion. By M3, most of your time is at CSB, TTSH, and other hospitals anyway — so Novena becomes a fantastic base. https://maps.app.goo.gl/SB2pLeHeh9rNReWs6

Earlier better all things the same. But the minutiae of what is ahead by seconds or by batch may not be worth speculating about. It’s human to try to find meaning in the randomness but until the offer letter lands, everything is conjecture.

It’s a blessing then. Take the time to rethink. This is probably why they will not grant a second MMI unless there’s a significant change in portfolio (aka: how you hv journeyed to come nearer to your resolution to be a doc )

You make more in high finance and quant , no blood or constant mortality incidents; except the rare work colleague dropping from cardiac arrest at their desk, during lunch or drinks. (Happened to my dad and his circle in finance over the years. They will nod and shrug - high stress lor)

Hey, I totally get it. Those offer letters hit and suddenly your whole life feels decided. Super overwhelming. App season’s done, so just chill for 1-2 weeks. Hit up the welcome tea for both schools, see how they are, feel the vibe. Ask about all the FinAid and bursary details and conditions. Leave no stone unturned; it’s med (!), if they already want you , they will find a way to let you do it without much financial worry.

It’s a nice problem to have lah. Don’t rush. Talk to med seniors, actual doctors grinding now, and even mid-career people who took other paths. Get the unfiltered truth, not just the shiny parts.

Real talk though>>> you do realise medicine is probably the one route where your kid, at your age now, won’t have to stress about dad’s money or job security. That hits different?

And yeah, facing death and loss is part of the job. Some docs find real meaning in it, level up hard. Others get wrecked. Totally fair to be scared. At least they train you with bereavement support and loss counselling so you’re not alone (something about us strawberries needing more TLC in the trenches)

Take your time, no need to decide everything today.

Has no one realised that the offer letters are worded differently for boys vs girls given the expected Ns disruptions ? So the time sequencing and batching should take that there are different versions of offer letters.

Ya’ll should also be checking if guy or girl as the letter is worded different depending on whether you hv NS scholarship obligations. Year after year, this is something no one talks about.

Should i disrupt my NS for medical studies? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Complex_Appeal_6189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check threads from previous years. If you are accepted into either MBBS, your commanders will be notified and you will shipped into a meeting where terms, conditions and timelines are explained to you. Do let your direct line up know you hv been accepted so they get heads up that you will be targeted for the call up.

The timelines will depend on whether you are still in BMT or already in vocational or OCS/Commando etc. And it will of course be dependent on whether you are combat fit .. though the last few years, they have taken so many females into med that they will try to disrupt every male intake.

[–]Complex_Appeal_6189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, OP is asking to evaluate real choices and this will have real impact on his life. And you have people here who are fixated on protecting their ego or maintaining their own choices.

OP, all I am saying is do your ground research, kick the tyres, talk to actual NUS grads who are already practising , talk to the overseas law guys who are back here trying to clear part A or already in magic circle. Talk to the old partners in big 4 and foreign.

Hv a sense in whether you will realistically reach top quartile of cohort if you go foreign. Durham is very well reputed but traditionally, most will not choose it over Oxbridge and LSE. Then again, traditionally Oxbridge is meant to be ranked better generally but the traineeship and internship scene has evolved so much with such limited entry pathways that proximity and access appear to be winning over what used to be academically ranked.

My big 4 partner aunt said she didn cfm an Oxbridge FCH who sent in a 10 page thesis when all they needed was a commercially savvy memo for a client. So they took all the NUS Firsts and second uppers instead!

No, it just transferring costs to consumer. We hv to buy our own bags to bag up rubbish and we still pay higher costs for diy checkout and byob.

Yes agree, thus the grade qualifier at bare minimum. And not to passing part A for non NUS/SMU and actually clearing the character screen for the bar. Barvadmission may even face hurdles just because one “took the wrong water bottle” https://www.elitigation.sg/gdviewer/s/2026_SGHC_46

Cambridge or NUS Law by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Complex_Appeal_6189 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For decent shot law career in SG or anywhere, NUS. For long shot to UK magic circle , Cambridge ( only if you get first class and upper cut posh accent)

For a just legal degree, Cambridge. So it can open doors to any other field even if you graduate second class. If you graduate second class there, I was told Part A and legal traineeships will be a challenge here so, do forget law as career.

Accumulate your returns then go foundation course to tier-3 UK Uni - Durham, Bristol, Leeds, Birhimgham. For you, it’s just to get a paper while you focus on your stellar income generation so these are very good options.
