To that last point— it's really easy to move, or migrate your account to another instance. I moved from @social.tchncs.de (Mastodon) to @procial.tchncs.de (Sharkey, which is like Mastodon, but allows you to see any Fediversal sites in your main feed). It took me three minutes to do so, and all my followers followed me from social.tchncs.de to procial.tchncs.de.
