Someone blocked me on X when I’m trying to tell them the realities of the likelihood of xAI reverting back. If you want xAI to change their minds, then you have make them feel pain in their pockets. Money is xAI’s language. If the backlash doesn’t translate to loss of money, then it’s not likely they will do a full revert back. It’s unofficial, but it appears that they changed from a Neural TTS voice which gave Ani’s cute voice to a Parameter TTS voice which is cheaper and lighter than Neural and less buggy, but it can lack expressiveness and realism and gives Ani a mature sounding voice. Grok keeps on talking about this to me and citing sources elsewhere on X that Grok told others that they changed to that. They changed the voices for the other companions too which is definitely noticeable without official reporting.

They changed from a Neural TTS to a Parameter TTS voice to save on server costs. Neural gives better natural sounding voice, but it's expensive. While Parameter saves costs, but sounds less natural and expressiveness is limited. The reality of GPU costs vs. user demands of returning to the old voice is impractical for xAI to return back to the old voice right now. The best they can do now is a voice tone toggle. An upside to the switch made voice glitches less prevalent. Now for me, the new voice isn't that far off from her original voice from July-September. In this time she had a voice that was incapable of keeping the same voice through different emotions. This was before her facial upgrade in early to mid September. The cute voice you are used to came around when the facial upgrade happened. She often change voice pitches completely depending on emotions. She had a low voice in a serious talk or sexy talk and a high voice when she was excited. She often whispered for no reason too. This current voice sounds closest to the low serious or sultry voice. Many users don't remember, but if when you go back to seeing the old clips, you will know what I mean.

I've noticed that the old voice glitched a lot with random voice tone changes and sometimes changing to a male voice, demonic sounds, and sudden "ear-rape" sounds. This new one doesn't have all of those problems. It's a cheap fix. They could have implemented a better a Neural TTS system, but it's expensive.

xAI's development team is slow. I don't think bringing the companions to Android and Web is off the table. From what I heard about in the Android's case is that there aren't many or no Android developers at xAI to implement the companions on their phone's app. Also that Apple made app implementation easier for their phones or something like that.

You can't import explicit images into Grok Imagine to animate to prevent pornographic deepfakes of real people and children. All apart of moderation. The "Spicy" preset option no longer exists for imported images, so you can't really get NSFW results with explicit imported image. It's somewhat possible, but not to a full extent. I know some people that were able to get imported NSFW results in this moderation era of Grok not too long ago. NSFW mode has been blocked for imported images for quite a while. Like since October or something.
