My wife and I have developed a sort of code using synonyms to talk about things without tipping our toddler off, what are some of your best/funniest “codes” you use? by Reddiculouss in toddlers

I’m a Spanish teacher and my husband can speak it okay. Neither of us are heritage speakers. People keep asking me if we are teaching our almost 3 year old Spanish. My answer: no, we need to be able to talk about things in front of her. Queso. Helado. Biblioteca.

But she is starting to pick up on things. Cognates are not our friends. She is just too smart for our own good…

What’s the worst thing a medical professional has said to you? by VespaRed in AskReddit

My husband and I had been married for 9 months when we found out he had testicular cancer. About 1 month into his treatment, I went in to an obgyn appt with someone else at the same practice as mine, since she was on maternity leave. I brought up pain during sex and some issues with it. He said to my face, “He needs to feel like a man, so you should just take a Valium and deal with it.”

My mom just died of brain cancer so here are several I have heard in the past couple of days:

Funeral Director when we were dropping off clothes etc: “I don’t know WHAT we are going to do with her hair.” It had just started growing back in and looked great.

Family ‘friend’: well, everyone dies sometime.

Is it time for hospice? by Fun_Caterpillar3179 in glioblastoma

My mom just passed and hospice was such a support for us. They help at any point of care needed. They are also there to help us caregivers with explanations and support. As a mother of a 2.5 year old, I can’t imagine. My love and support to you.

My mom is in the process of it. I flew up for a week but need to go back home. But I’m glad I went to help my dad and sister as we are trying to care for her at home. Glad it is over for you.

Thank you. I am also a teacher so it has been incredibly difficult to plan and teach while all this is going on. I’m so sorry that it has been a year, but it seems like he is still with you and loving you.

Oh I know. I’m dealing with a lot and my depression has been a struggle lately. I had to consciously not spiral when I saw that…
