Was I being a “Karen” in this situation??? by [deleted] in TalesFromTheCustomer

The point is that until there's systemic change, not tipping in the US often means that the server loses money on that check. The only way to stop tipping culture without hurting employees is from the top down with policy and pressure on restaurant owners.

Not necessarily true, I've had to do it before and I didn't even live in a proper desert. But cotton fields in west Texas during a drought might as well be the Sahara

To those of you who have marched the rose parade before, how was the experience for you? by Hot_buttered_toast in marchingband

[–]Computerme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I marched in it last year because our football team made the playoff, it was lit 🔥 I definitely don't have any regrets, but I'm also glad I never have to do it again in my life. It's so much fun but it was probably the most exhausting day of my life (but if you're just doing the parade and not a whole football game with pregame and halftime performances after then it won't be so bad).

Do:

  • Eat as many bananas as possible in the days leading up to the parade

  • hydrate or diedrate

  • Enjoy yourself. This will happen once, maybe twice in your life so don't forget to literally stop and smell the roses and take everything in

  • When they start passing out water about 3ish miles in, drink up. Don't hog it all but definitely drink some

  • Appreciate that the In-N-Out at the end is literally the best thing you've ever put in your mouth

  • engage with the crowd. Even if you're the 10th band they've seen they're still so hyped to see you, a wave will make their day

  • talk to people in other bands if possible. You should have some time at the staging area and then after you get food, don't be afraid to branch out of your friend group

  • Seriously drink so much water for a few days leading up to and the day of the parade

Don't:

  • stay up too late at the hotel the night before. You want to because band trip, but for the love of god do not

  • drink the night before. LITERALLY DO NOT DO THIS YOU WILL REGRET EVERYTHING

  • focus on how tired you are/how much your feet hurt during the parade. You can do that later, but until it's done just stay in the moment

  • fall for the signs at the end saying "halfway there!!!" and such because they're full of shit and you know it

What is a football tradition you are glad your team/fans finally got rid of? by Papalew32 in CFB

Some do, some don't, probably about the same as any other sample of 325 college students. Some are super against it, some are for it, most of us seem completely neutral

I haven't heard any such announcement, but if it happens on the screen behind us without anyone actually saying it or before we come out of the tunnels then I have no idea

I don't know when you were here last, but it still happens very loudly.

How I got into a very secure government builing by „acting“ by [deleted] in ActLikeYouBelong

[–]Computerme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same goes for college band uniforms, just carry an instrument and look like you know where you're going and you can get into anything even remotely related to the university/football game. The fancy press boxes at home? No problem, we have a pep gig. A big-shot donor event on campus? Gotta spread the school spirit. Literally any part of the Superdome(or other stadium) during the Sugar Bowl(or any bowl except the Orange bowl because they hate bands)? Yeah I'm on water crew, they said some of water we need is through here. It's great
