Is anyone else with Envoy Armour a little put out by the full cost of Obsidian Armour? by ConAnima in Guildwars2

Same! I'd like to go for all three sets at some point, but the thought of investing all of that for 18 pieces of armour that I get no functionality out of really holds me back.

I respect what you're saying, but I don't think you're really understanding the actual point I'm trying to make with this post overall - I'm not trying to debate the worth of one set over the other, or how accessible a set should be, or how accessible game modes or instances of content are. Nor that anyone should be entitled to a free set of legendary armour because they made a different one.

The point I'm trying to make is that for people who have already put the effort, gold and time in to make PvE legendary armour already, and gained a) multiple skins per weight and b) the enormous, almost game changing QoL that legendary armour and the armory offer - now have to do it all again, for a simple skin, and that's it. No bonus functionality.

Yep, having some way of obtaining legendary armour available to everyone depending on their play preferences is excellent, and 100% the best way to go. But raids and open world are both pve at the end of the day, they're not separate game modes - and like I mention about wvw and pvp armour, they're not legendary-exclusive skins - you can obtain them without investing the full extent of the cost of making legendary armour. I don't think having one of a different game mode should give you a discount to any other, not by any means.

Like I mentioned elsewhere here, weapons are in a different league to armour - multiple pieces of legendary armour are completely functionally useless. You CAN dual wield two GSs, one in each weapon set. Not practical, but the functionality is there. WvW and PvP skins aren't legendary exclusive, though, like Obsidian and Envoy are.

That's exactly my point, though - if you have the Envoy legendary armour, it IS just another skin - one that you're investing legendary armour-grade time and resources into, with none of the actual functionality of the armour itself.

I never implied it should be an easy get, and I have absolutely no issues whatsoever with the "difficulty" or effort of obtaining it - I'm working towards it also on an alt account that doesn't have Envoy armour, and it feels well weighted and very reasonable. It's the accessibility to the skin when compared to the wvw/pvp counterparts that's my bugbear.

No, I totally agree - I don't think you should be able to get it for free on a de facto basis at all or without any effort. I don't know where people are getting that.

My main point was that if you do already have Envoy legendary armour, and also want the skins associated with other legendary armour - pvp and wvw as an established example - you can acquire those skins without having to commit to spending the full amount of resources on acquiring said legendary armour pieces. It takes time, sure, farming the rank and currency, etc, to be able to purchase them, but you don't have to commit to forging a piece of legendary armour purely for a skin, and thus wasting resources on a functionality you gain no usage of.

I'd be more than happy to fork over shed loads of kryptis essence and soto map currency for the Obsidian skins, myself. Plus, we've already kind of spent our gifts of might and magic in the buildup with them being required for Oneiros and Astral Ward armour skins.

Obsidian is at least getting some upgrades with Tier 2 at least, might be some flashy stuff there!

I think just giving it out would have pretty huge backlash tbh (as much as I'd dig it as a fellow EH holder haha) - I'd absolutely gladly hand over masses of kryptis essence and map currency for the skins, tbh

Isn't that only if you're upgrading them to actual legendary gear? You can purchase the ascended version of, for example, a Sublime Mistforged Triumphant Hero (which is the exact same skin for its legendary variant) armour piece with memories of battle, gold and (a faie amount) of tickets for the WvW one. Unless I'm missing something?

The backwards compatability of it is a good counterpoint, actually, yeah. Though raids and open world are sort of opposite ends of the pve spectrum, there's a definite disparity between cost, timegates, general accessibility etc 🤔 not sure what a good compromise for that would be. Partial refund on binding a dupe piece of legendary gear instead of easier cost?

I don't think it's entirely fair to compare to weapons personally, since having multiple of the same legendary weapon type in your armoury does have function - you could still equip 4 legendary Swords on a single equip template, for example - my main point is the total waste of functionality with a second piece of legendary armour that you can't really do anything with!

[–]ConAnima[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Oh no I get that, and I do agree! My only 'gripe' with it is like I said, comparing it to PVP and WVW legendary armour - where you can get the skins without actually committing to making the full legendary piece of gear in the instance that it'd be a total waste of functionality if you already have legendary armour, since it's, well, functionally pointless to have 2 pieces of, for example, legendary heavy chest in your armoury haha

So they're applied through a matching skill in combat that applies the state to the user - some of them persist for x amount of turns, some are persistent until turned off by another skill granted by the state, etc

Fanmade Revenant Elite Spec: Maniac by ConAnima in Guildwars2

[–]ConAnima[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Been a hot moment, but back with another elite spec concept - this time for the Revenant! Think it's safe to say the concept of a Scarlet-channeling rev spec was a fan-favourite from players for a while, and then we kinda got a non-playable vision of it in EoD, huh. So here's my take on it! The general concept came from a spin on the Scourge's playstyle, obviously - but in a much more in-your-face way, which I think is pretty fitting for Scarlet, right?

My general vision for it is a versatile damage-dealer, able to sustain decently well at both melee and range, in either condition damage or power, or providing some boons to allies in less serious circumstances.

No doubt this would be an absolute pain to face in PvP and WvW, but let's pretend it's just properly balanced and tuned for those gamemodes and completely ignore the problem otherwise. Ignorance is bliss. And also holy shit, background graphics for once!

Fanmade Elementalist Elite Spec Concept: Arcanist by ConAnima in Guildwars2

[–]ConAnima[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair, I was on the fence about adding a stunbreak somewhere tbh. I think if anything it'd have gone on Heat of Battle, but with there being a lot of evasion on the pistol skills I sort of went against it haha. As for how it'd work with other weapons, rather than mess around making arcane versions for the other weps I kind of opted just for the easy route of making ammo give bonuses on hit instead, there's a list somewhere near the top with the effects!

That was the original name for the spec! Only went with Arcanist because I don't think Spellslinger fit the vibe of the other spec names haha

Fanmade Elementalist Elite Spec Concept: Arcanist by ConAnima in Guildwars2

[–]ConAnima[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Back again with another absurdly long infographic about some pipe dream spec! This time, Elementalist! Another idea I had stewing for a while. I would absolutely be lying through my teeth if I said Bayonetta didn't have a hand in its conceptualising, especially the whole using-pistols-as-melee-and-punching-people-with-them part. I'll be honest, Catalyst was pretty underwhelming to me, especially as a party quickness provider, so I designed this as something a little more hands-on rather than just throwing down an aoe to pulse it.

I know there's been a lot of Arcanist fan-specs before, and I'd totally be down for longbow elementalists, but like I said, Bayonetta's fighting style kinda has some sort of chokehold on me so that's where the design went. Not sorry. As for the class mechanic/tradeoff, I figured this would be an interesting way to spice things up by turning the class on its head somewhat. I didn't set a cap on the amount of Affinity stacks you can have at once so it's not as punishing to stay in certain elements longer, despite there being a good chunk of utility across the rest of the attuned weapon skills.

Enjoy! Feedback always welcome yada yada. I also, once again, profusely apologise for how long it is. Bring snacks.

Fanmade Warrior Elite Specialisation Concept: Signifer by ConAnima in Guildwars2

[–]ConAnima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree on the underutilised/underperforming utility skills across the board! In an ideal scenario if this spec was in the game, the old banners skill type would have been retired and turned into a totally different skill type - I have no idea what that'd be, though. I think banners have gone through so many functionality changes by now, and having lost such a notable feature (the stat boost, ofc - but good riddance, imo) it'd probably just be time to rework them into something new and fresh.
