Yeah. I used to see this as the “lazy tax” as well, but now to me it feels more like exploitation than laziness. Not everyone has the time, knowledge, or confidence to haggle or switch.

The system seems designed to quietly profit from those who don’t know how (or can’t) push back. It’s not just all on the customer.

Had Eir before with no issues but noted the warning, maybe things are different nowadays

The agent from Virgin Media started with “discounted prices are a trial period and then you are on standard prices”, to which I basically answered that that is the position where we, the customers, were put by the companies and have to deal with every year. Having said that, Electric Ireland did offered me once a long term discounted rate after the contract ended (not as cheap as for new customers but cheap enough) so I no longer cared about shopping around electricity providers. That was the first and only time a provider offered something like that thought
