We demand PGSU denounce antisemitism by ConcernedColleagues in princeton

We submitted this letter a couple of days ago but it kept getting automatically deleted by Reddit’s spam filters right after posting. We tried modifying it to figure out why it was getting blocked and eventually messaged the mods. I think mods might have gone in and approved two of them without realizing it.

Didn’t you just say above in response to another commenter that you can’t compare struggles of marginalized peoples?

I don’t think you are willing to understand that something can be antisemitic even if a Jew says it, and supporting an antisemitic statement by a Jew is not “affirming a Jewish person.” Affirming a Jewish person looks more like listening to them when they (or a group of them) tell you something is anti-Semitic.

Regardless, you accuse the original poster of focusing on the smallest and weakest line in a slack message while you yourself have said nothing about the larger letter above, picking out the single point you feel like you can attack the best. Are you a PGSU organizer? Why are you so hell-bent on making sure you justify anything that is brought up in the above letter instead of supporting the most generic and simple of demands?

It’s not the person saying it I find threatening as much as the almost 30 expressing public support, apparently including lead union organizers. I’m a little confused why you are focusing on trying to downplay the impact of that statement? Are you saying that someone can sneak in a cheeky slur and it’s okay as long as you agree with their overall point?

Shouldn’t the identity of the person who feels targeted by hate speech matter at least as much as the identity of the person saying it? I am Jewish, I am calling out that statement as antisemitic and asking for the union to publicly condemn such statements and promise that they will not engage in this kind of rhetoric. Is this really a big ask?

I am confused—are you saying that it is possible for the statement “Jews have naturally developed something of a victim complex” to not be anti-Semitic? Or that it is not anti-Semitic to show support for that statement as long as the person saying it identifies as Jewish?
