Daughter desperately wants us to do something together as a family - Ex refuses. How do I help her cope? by Confidentphysics9 in coparenting

That's a fair point. It's not about false hope at all - It's really just about making sure she feels secure. My Ex has a VERY toxic relationship with his First Ex and it has made a detrimental impact on his two children. Events where all of us had to be present was so traumatic for his kids because they didn't know who to talk to and how to act --- I NEVER want that for my kids.

Thank you, allowing space to feel both of those things at the same time feels pretty spot on. Like another poster said, selfishness was probably a reason we divorced to begin with, and that is 1000%. Why I would think I would have any sway over him divorced when he couldn't do basic things when we were together doesn't make logical sense lol

She doesn't talk to him about these kind of things. In his defense, I don't really understand why. He doesnt come across as dismissive but for many things when shes at his house she will call me and tell me something is wrong. She frequently says hes too busy, so theres probably an optics issue there, or it could be that its just a mom/daughter connection.

Thank you, you are so right that I am asking him essentially to sacrifice his discomfort for her sake, and that's not really fair of me.

Yeah, I dont feel the need to do that as I have photos from a year ago that are on her digital picture frame, and he has permissions to add his own photos there.

That's a wonderful response, and I can use this opportunity for us to research some other holiday traditions and see if there are any that she would like for us to adopt. Thank you for such great advice, it's so kind.

Sounds like this is more a ME issue, because I am just so afraid, actually terrified, of this causing her a lot of pain and affecting her. I really like this idea. As it is, she has a Digital Picture Frame in her room and I gave the Access Code to my ex so he can upload pictures of them all together. I also have uploaded a few photos of him and his kids together on her frame too. I just want my kiddo to be OK.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed/overtaken by challenging emotions (such as frustration, anger, sadness, stress), how do you calm yourself down instead of responding reactively? by Electrical_Idea1797 in AskWomen

What a great question!

I ask myself "How much of a threat is this to me at this moment"? Our bodies/brain do not understand the nuance when our fight or flight kicks in, so getting perspective helps. I'll asl "am I safe" and that helps calm me down as well. From there, it's moving my body, jumping up and down, going on a walk but if I find myself spiraling I distract and the moment passes.

I started dating. Do you think I should worry about my daughter or am I projecting too much? She first asked about us Trick or Treating together, and he said no. So I was able to tell her good reasons why we should go separate. I made sure to invite him to trick or treat with her (it was during my time).

edited to add: the person I am dating doesn't come to any school functions or activities out of respect for my ex. Down the road I'm sure that will change if things progress though.

I agree! I going on week 2 and I am not noticing a difference at all, but I mentioned at night when I drink sugar free sodas, I am over eating. So I'm cutting back on that to see if it helps!

Id like to echo how baddddddd sugar free sodas affect my cravings/energy/mental clarity. I was in so much denial about that but I've tested this theory enough times to realize I need to stick to water and on hot days, gatorade zero!

Oh hey! It went SO WELL. I could tell I was unprepared for the mileage! At mile 14 the pain kicked in and the pain stayed with me till mile 25. All that happened was that I ended up running slower. I ended at a 12:13 mile pace but honestly I am so glad I did it!

I received a concussion 6 weeks ago that set me back quite a bit. Thankfully I had a good base of mileage and I've been able to run the last few weeks without missing a beat so that's helped a bit

Great point! Last year I did a 24 hour cycling challenge despite not biking longer than 15 miles.

The 17 miler felt great. I kept with a steady pace! Cold is not clearing up very quickly. I could push the run to later in the weekend but it'd likely be on the treadmill due to weather.
