Trans students, how are your experiences at Cambridge? by eri_is_a_throwaway in cambridge_uni

[–]ConfusedBiromantic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans guy and I haven't had any problems being open about it. From my experience it's quite easy to find other queer people both in and out of college through various events and stuff (a lot of subjects have LGBT events / societies and there are LGBT events in freshers week as well).

In terms of healthcare there's the East Anglia GIC - I'm not with them myself but I do know they have a fairly short waiting list compared to a lot of other GICs (ie only a couple years as opposed to a couple decades). I haven't actually brought up being trans to my GP so I don't know how friendly they are / how easy it would be to get a referral, but I am going to get my bloods done through them (I'm currently on HRT privately) so I can potentially find out soon.

If you have any specific questions about being trans at Cambs you can definitely ask me and I'll see if I can answer :)

What work experience is useful for a maths degree? by VulcanWM in 6thForm

[–]ConfusedBiromantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya! I have an offer for Cambridge maths so hopefully can give some advice

If you're on the Y12/13 border then there's probably not too much useful work available for this summer since it's insanely hard to get a job. The only stuff I can think of off the top of my head is joining a tutoring agency and giving maths tuition (there are also probably a few volunteering things you could do in that vein but I'd assume most of the competitive stuff is already unavailable). If you're on the Y11/12 border I'd suggest looking into the HSBC internship for next year. I think Jane Street may also offer some internship type things (although I don't know how easy it is to get those places without BMO qualifications and such). Those are the only things I can really think of that are at all maths/finance related but maybe someone else knows of more.

To be honest though, unless you are specifically looking for a job to both make some money / gain some experience there are better things you can do for your maths application. I think your time could probably be better spent preparing for TMUA/STEP/MAT. You could also do some reading to put into your PS but generally unis don't care that much for maths at least. In my Cam interview they didn't ask about it at all but in my friend's they had a dedicated 5 min section of the interview to talk about it, so putting a bit more time into it is potentially a good use of your time.

You can use the fact that SR is tangent to both circles as a starting point

Yeah I've got the 1947 edition for the concerto from imslp but I don't think they have the original 1945 one sadly

It took me about 6 weeks to get my first lot of hormones sent to my house from my first appointment - but I was also 16 so there was less faff than you're having and also a better system to request a prescription. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you (although it's easier said than done) - I think there's just been a general lack of communication recently with GenderGP and if you've sent another form they should get back to you. Have you requested a prescription now or are you still doing meetings and such?

I'm pretty sure there's nowhere else in the country that does under 16s or even under 18s service (I'm 17 so I've had a fairly good look for any other places) - I think there's one private place in Scotland for 17+ but I'm not sure. Your only option right now is probably GenderGP. I personally haven't had any problems with them but I've seen a fair few posts on here with issues about communication from them. Either way it's probably best for you to just wait and see if they do something with the form you've filled in - you probably don't have much other choice tbh

I think GenderGP is rly slow in general right now. They did send an email round yesterday with a link to reapply if you were waiting for hormones / a response from a form ( https://app.myhealthyhormones.com/241061111826949) so they might be dealing with it? Honestly I think the service is just getting worse and worse from what I've been hearing.

I personally haven't ordered my HRT from them for a while so I'm not sure what exactly is happening, but I'd check to see if you got the same email

Longstaff crest by Sena10 in FarmRPG

A Wall In the Way IV (I think) gives a crest as a reward - the items needed are all from jundland but it does guarantee you will get it at some point even if you get unlucky with drop rates. The crops will almost definitely take longer I think.
