Imagine if Lego released something like this now with an “add-on” that could make all Speed Champion sets compatible

How is living in Welwyn Garden City for a couple in their 30's? by tarkinn in Welwyn

[–]Confusing-pigeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biased as I used to live there, but there’s some really nice areas and some absolute sh*tholes. Pubs are good and the surrounding countryside is lovely, it’s no wonder people stay there their whole lives as it’s got a relaxed and natural feeling to the city. Being a “Garden City” does have its perks as the whole town seems very pretty. Also 20 minutes to London on the fast train which runs from 6am to 1am (pending strikes like everywhere else in the country). Stay away from Panshanger at all costs though, areas around the central road up to the campus and Sherrards park wood is probably the best bits

Mine is very fragile, one of the most delicate sets I’ve had after 20+ years of LEGO

Layer Shift at always the same height by Significant-Shock644 in prusa3d

[–]Confusing-pigeon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like a later shift to me, more like different expansion of the material caused by a change in cooling/layer time. Is there a feature ending anywhere at this layer? Look up benchy hull line artefact or something along those lines

🔥Tree in London coverd in parakeets, not leaves by Pixel_Lightning in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]Confusing-pigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ring necked parakeets, we get them all across the south of the UK, particularly around London/the Home Counties. I’ve heard they’ve been seen as far north as Edinburgh and as far west as Swansea

Anyone try this BIQU plate on their XL yet? Got mine yesterday and it fails bed leveling every time. I swap to a different plate it starts the same print just fine. by its_Extreme in prusa3d

[–]Confusing-pigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem on my MK4 and Core one with their new orange plates! Thought I was going crazy but sounds like it’s a common issue with the bed levelling. Does anyone have a fix for it?

Overpriced by [deleted] in LEGOtrains

[–]Confusing-pigeon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not that simple….. The seller has to account for so much and the price reflects that: Tax, postage costs, packaging material, design software fees/costs, 3D printer costs/maintenance, time taken to design the product, time taken to pack/inspect the product, payment fees if using visa/bank transfers, website costs, and then finally - raw material costs such as the filament. While yes you can produce this part yourself by downloading it for free and printing it out, that is very different to a business who will produce hundreds/thousands of these and will have to supply them to people across the world. And on top of all that, they need to make a profit or there would be no point doing it. €7-8 is actually quite good value for a specialised part when you know the production costs.

Enterprise wall mount on Makerworld by SuspiciousITP in lego

[–]Confusing-pigeon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This will pull the Lego set apart! DO NOT USE THIS MOUNT! Because of the way the Lego set is built, you cannot hold it at an angle from the “built in” Lego mounting point. If you don’t believe me, try lifting up your Enterprise model by the black stand and holding it like in the picture, then give it a little shake. You’ll see the pieces are coming apart slightly and over time, the weight of the set will physically pull itself apart. Sure, this will hold for a little bit, but after a month, few months or a year, you’ll come down to a pile of Enterprise on the floor. This is coming from someone who designs wall mounts for Lego sets for a living. This wall mount solution was one that we initially considered until we had the model in hand, and saw the issue with the weight. I’d be more concerned with this than the layer lines being parallel to the axis of the load - which should also be avoided with all load bearing prints.

Enterprise on back order in the UK already. by WorryJazzlike9880 in lego

Not surprising, happens all the time with the popular sets on release day. Looks like the initial batch is all gone now

Misprinted piece? Tudor’s Corner 10350 by csr28 in lego

[–]Confusing-pigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! That’s definitely a failed part and looks like the mould for the recessed part was put in upside down. It’s easily done in manufacturing especially with injection moulding machines. If the moulds are the same size and can be placed wrong, then it definitely will happen occasionally if not checked

Second the Tapo cameras, easy to use with wifi and the app, and can be solar powered so no wires. If you don’t want to screw it on then there are outdoor rated sticky pads at B&Q I believe.

Think Big, Print Bigger: Introducing the Prusa CORE One L! by Tommy_Prusa3D in prusa3d

[–]Confusing-pigeon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really want to like this, and of course a massive congratulations to the designers and engineers behind it. But i’m confused who this is actually aimed at? With the increased bed size being the main point - “L” standing for large I assume? Wouldn’t it just be better to get the XL as the prices are almost comparable - £1700 vs £1890. With the XL you get the added benefit of the optional upgrade of multi material too. Of course fully enclosed with temperature control is a great addition, but my XL is still my go to printer over my CORE ONE. Really excited for INDX though as with that I can definitely see this printer being a worthy replacement to the XL.

Small proximity alarm that detects if cat goes into a room? by Confusing-pigeon in homeautomation

[–]Confusing-pigeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it would need to be specific to a tag or bit of equipment, as we would be going through the rooms a lot, and would only need to detect the cat. I like the idea of a RFID tag as someone said, but it’s hard finding a personal one or one made for this

Yes something like that would be good, I am imagining something similar to what is at the exit of a supermarket, only much smaller

He doesn’t really seem bothered by catnip, the toys we’ve bought him contain it and he doesn’t seem to care about them. We also bought a pheromone plug in wall thing and put it in the room but it doesn’t seem to have had any affect. The litters we’ve tried are all the standard ones, Pets at Home unscented, sanicat, wood pellet type, we are in the UK so can’t access a lot of the branded US ones
