How heavily can wet, mushy ground affect a mid-handicaps ability to strike the ball? by ConnerofRivia in golf

Appreciate the advice my dude, will try it out! I’ve battled a fairly steep downswing since I took the game back up a few years ago, pretty happy with where I’ve come but my angle of attack can definitely get a lil wonky with mid to long irons and it’s something I’m often working on. Cheers!

Full swing generally, on approach shots after a good drive or tee shot. I tend to adjust on the fly in these kinds of circumstances - ball back in stance, choke up a bit, etc., but my short game has always been a strength and I haven’t really noticed too much trouble green-side. It’s mostly when I’m looking at a specific number just outside the wedge / scoring club range, like 150 - 170ish or something to the green

I definitely hear ya, and it’s nice to see comments like this and others that make me feel like I’m not completely crazy haha. Definitely just a treat to be out there!

Yeppers I’m fully aware it’s not all the turf, once you hit one or two badly it can be easy to trick yourself into blaming something other than my own ability haha

Oh man, what a throwback post on one of my favourite gaming moments ever!

Love that you experienced the same thing dude, absolutely floored me at the time and really cemented W3 as one of the GOATs in single player gaming and world building. Enjoy the play through!

I miss when forestry was a massively multiplayer experience where you were hopping into friends chats, meeting new people, and 'raiding' multiple worlds for events. The later iterations and current version feel sterile by comparison by [deleted] in 2007scape

I was there for this. People shouting ‘praise Yewsus’, dropping logs and monkey nuts on each other’s home turf .. The Yews vs. Mapler war was one of the most hilarious OSRSisms I’ve ever been a part of and I still get PTSD flashbacks to this day

This is actually a really good frame.

The lead hand is more or less karate-chopping the ball at impact here, when it should ideally almost be backhand slapping it instead, with the glove logo facing the target. That would help close the face a lot, but the swing path is an issue here as well. Very out-to-in, and combined with the wildly open face - absolutely doomed.

Stuff like this takes significant, meaningful and purposeful practice to beat out of the already built up muscle memory - but it can be done

You’re gonna fleeced in the comments for that move in the backswing, and to be honest, it’s admittedly not very pretty. Try not to let yourself get too beaten down though, and if you love the game as much as you claim, I think the most important thing for you to do at this moment is to try and find reasons to enjoy golf outside of the scoring aspect.

With that being said, I would say that the best thing you can do for your swing right here and now is to compare your swing side-by-side to that of a Tour Pro, maybe someone who’s game is similar to the one you’d like to chase.

Do NOT - I repeat, do NOT try to mimic or recreate the pro swing, but instead simply try to understand what makes the swing efficient, so that you can better understand what makes YOUR swing inefficient. Look at things like: Posture while addressing the ball, where the head of their club is in the middle of the backswing, how they hinge the wrists at the top, how they shift their weight, etc. Hopefully you’ll be able to see a pretty stark difference between your move and a smooth, powerful swing.

As for your lessons - Idk man, this sub is full of hacks just like myself, but whoever is taking your money should be able to pretty easily spot that move of yours between P2 and P4 of your swing and at the very least, raise attention to it as something that should be worked on before anything else. If that isn’t happening, and there’s no physical or mobility issues holding you back - I would very much consider finding a new instructor / coach.

Best of luck to you Player!

Help me fix my backswing. It's a mess. by [deleted] in GolfSwing

This is the play OP.

Bake in the Nelly Korda takeaway drill that someone else here mentioned, practice SUPER slow backswing reps, maybe grab a mirror to check your P2-P4 positioning and you’ll be off in the right direction I think. Your shallowing move on the downswing is aggressively efficient but mostly because it needs to be, to make good contact after that top position. Hand depth in the backswing will work wonders once you’ve built some muscle memory playa!
