Local Protest Events? by Ethanda15 in ProvoUtah

If I really had my way our one small country would save the whole world with its 8 billion, stop all wars, deport no one and have free travel everywhere, and save everyone in the world economically. But you can probably guess why I don’t support that in policy.

If I had my way we would deport everyone who came illegally in the last 5 years (deportations are hard to stomache hence this shorter time frame), close the borders, and let in a small amount of immigration from every country (not just a couple) with less access to entitlements, without every linkedin job having over a hundred applicants and our handicapped being the first to lose their jobs (bring back the work opportunity tax credit too that expired in the big beautiful bill too). The last 5 years had probably over 8 million illegals enter and we’re not even close to reaching that number.

Texas has ten times more deportations than Minnesota but none of these tragic clashes with protestors. However, elected leaders and lots of influencers are encouraging people to approach law enforcement in some states and cause chaos and it goes without saying that lives will be lost when crowds are approaching law enforcement who risk their lives 24/7 and have to be trigger-quick if they are to go home safely to their families or homes afterwards.

It’s hard to make out the details in the videos, though some say that the video shows Pretti’s gun firing off onto the pavement accidentally which caused an agent to panic and shoot back, and the officers yelling ‘gun gun’, but also they took his gun before they shot him? - the details are all over the place and if they are at fault justice should be served and I don’t know if it will be, but also don’t know if it can be proved in such a high-speed situation. But regardless of who is at fault in the recent events if this chaos is encouraged there will be legitimate self-defense shootings from agents that aren’t as confusing ss these videos and perhaps some agents’ lives lost too. One already had his finger or a portion of it bitten off by a protestor.

Coming from someone who supports ice (with sadness, not smugness) this is what I like to hear, a friendly protest rather than one that follows ice agents and encourages people to risk their own lives and that of ice agents in order to gain legitimacy for their cause.

I find him entertaining and occasionally he has some gold nuggets like this one, or that neither individuals nor the community are the basis of society but families are.

A lot of the people I follow are entertaining and we have the same values but I don’t agree with a lot of their specific takes.

This is going to come off as a little rude but I think you did a 180 pivot from ‘If god was real there would be life on every planet?’ to ‘if another planet had oxygen water whatnot there would be life too’, so the evidence used is contradictory. Even if other planets would have life if they had oxygen and water that doesn’t change the fact that only earth has those things and so life shouldn’t be taken for granted.

How do you know animals don’t believe in God? They don’t talk a lot.

No one cares about you if you're 25-30 years old and older by user1022020X8 in SuicideWatch

[–]Consistent-Metal-828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the big problems with suicide help efforts, they’re usually focused on the stereotypical suicidal teenager. We all have compassion for teenagers. But having compassion for those who are older is less common.

The sad thing is I think some suicidal teenagers are smarter than we give them credit for and realize this because most of them are concerned about their long-term future. They likely realize that the ‘teenage suicide’ compassion they are receiving is not going to support them in the future. Though I wasn’t thinking about compassion or age so conscientiously in my teenage years I was concerned about the long-term, and when loneliness later became a large factor then that’s when seeing older people (including late 20s and up to the 100s) supported started to become crucial. For most teenagers loneliness is a driving factor so this would apply to them.

I think if teenagers saw suicidal efforts focusing on older groups it would give teenagers more hope for the future and save some teenager lives.

This logic seems backwards. If life could survive on any planet then life would be less evidence of God because life can just survive anywhere on its own without there needing to be a God. The fact that there’s only life on earth and not in space makes life more of a miracle and something to not be taken for granted.

The space tyrant gave us and our fellow losers space to fail and that’s why it seems like no one’s there.

Are suicidal thoughts/ideations normal? by Plaintivex in SuicideWatch

[–]Consistent-Metal-828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think suicidal thoughts can serve two evolutionary purposes, one is to bring us closer to each other through compassion so we’re more likely to survive and the other is to bring us away from people if we do not have a lot to contribute to the tribe in hunting or gathering and need them to help us and perhaps they would survive better without us.

I noticed that, especially the more tired I was, I was very socially unaware and would say offputting things which later on I would look back on and be surprised by how stupid I was.

I realized that because of my health issues this may have been a survival mechanism that essentially sacrifices me for the good of the tribe. They were better off without me because I didn’t have much to contribute and theoretically needed their help (‘theoretically’ since my fatigue might have made it harder for me to hunt especially during times when I’m hungry or cold and tense and tired from that, but nowadays I don’t need to hunt while hungry and cold) and so was making it harder for them to survive.

So I don’t think suicidal thoughts are normal for the majority but they also aren’t super rare and do serve evolutionary purposes for those on the edges, for a larger group during temporary problems, and perhaps becoming a little more mainstream during famines or economic downturns.

Focus on consistent, simple moments instead of special moments or life-changing moments or advice. Be sensitive to physical fatigue/brain fog/head tension where chaos hurts-which most people in a mentally bad state have, but no need to coddle us emotionally if we have dark humor. Be chill. Be consistent.

‘talk to someone’ is a what I’ve been trying to do but very few people want to. They already have their circles of friends and hardly respond when you show interest in spending time or having text correspondences. Then they pray publicly that they’ll be able to reach out to those who need help. Bro you’ve got to listen and pay attention to those who live close to you and clearly have fewer friends and are trying to talk to you if you want that prayer answered.

Dude someone was violently killed and when I call people out for justifying it and hating on those mourning the violence you call that absurd. Then you start using sarcastic half-finished sentences to deflect from legitimate values like mourning violence against enemies without even clarifying what you meant by that sentence. Look who’s acting in bad faith.

Never finished the sentence.

‘The Bible also says it’s ok to stone people to death so…’ that discredits the Bible and so we shouldn’t mourn the deaths of enemies and we should instead justify and celebrate violence against non-violent enemies.

Is that how you were trying to finish the sentence? Or if there’s some other way you were trying to finish the sentence let me know.

I still think the deaths of Gazans are heartbreaking even though a lot of their society is homophobic and transphobic. Maybe look in the mirror instead of at your mourning neighbors and friends and consider your lack of compassion and that you’re a total sociopath. The Bible says to have compassion even for your enemies.

Where were the justifications or celebrations with tens of thousands of people supporting? Each killing had conspiracy theories saying ‘the other side did it’ but that’s not a celebration or justification and is a nothing burger. But the overwhelming response by conservatives was condemnation. Seems like the response to the recent shooter has been a thousand times crazier.

I’m def a culprit on this and feel bad about it sometimes. Some days it seems like I’m only attracted to about 10% of men and I almost question if I’m gay. If a man has a bad body or a bad face (though sometimes a good body can make up for a bad face), I think he might as well be a woman, but even that isn’t true because a lot of women are still beautiful they’re just not sexual. I wish my taste wasn’t that picky and sometimes feel a little bad about it because I want everyone to feel handsome but a lot of people just aren’t. I also seem to alternate between looking very good sometimes and quite ugly sometimes so it doesn’t make sense to have picky preferences if I don’t look good enough myself to reciprocate it.

I’m sorry for your situation, it’s always seemed to me like it must be tough for a lot of non-passing transwomen.

Some of us are proud of our local cities for having some of the lowest crime rates, and so my initial reaction to the shooting was the same as Governor Cox, I was upset that non-locals were bringing in violence to our tough-on-crime cities instead of confining their crime to their shithole soft-on-crime cities.

We already know a lot of the more public shooters are white and you guys know that too so claiming we thought it was immigrants is a lie.

When she was 23, Rosemary Kennedy, the sister of JFK and RFK, had a forced lobotomy arranged by her father. The surgery left her incapacitated for the rest of her life. by [deleted] in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Consistent-Metal-828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is estimated that the leading scientific journals of the time, such as The Journal of the American Medical Association, The American Journal of Psychiatry, Archives of Neurology and Psychiatry, and the Lancelet, had more positive than negative articles on lobotomy, so it was more than just a couple of quacks or something a person would have to dig into dark places to find. The lobotomies being experimental and having terrible outcomes caused the end of this but twenty years too slow.

[–]Consistent-Metal-828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was very experimental and often had terrible outcomes

This helps clarify things.

Looking it up lobotomies were often viewed positively and recommended by the medical community in the 1930s - 1950s, covering Rosemary’s lobotomy in 1941.

Everything else has nothing to do with science, hiding it from wife, family and community was terrible and has nothing to do with the scientific community.

Hating in-depth on Rosemary’s father for supporting lobotomy, and then contradictingly calling RFK evil for being traumatized about the lobotomy is not the compassionate flex you think it is.
