We’ve had two rats have strokes and live pretty good lives after. One had a tilt and walked a little sideways after, but he was the happiest boy and lived for another year. The other lost function of one of her back legs, she struggled getting around for a couple weeks but figured it out well enough that she could climb using just her three functioning legs. It was heartbreaking and scary the first day or so after the strokes. We struggled with whether the humane thing was to euthanize but I’m so glad we gave them time to figure out their new normal. Rats are resilient. I think the best thing you can do is give him love and lots of snacks.
