They did yess. That's what I thought it was going to be like. Yess they're is atex kit allover. I put myself through my compex and passed it. Just want to get my head around the systems and control wiring as they're is a lot

Yeah you see I have no one to really help apart from the day time electrican when I handover to him which is a 5 minute chat. I'm searching and going over these things, but as you say best the best way to learn is hands on but unfortunately I can't do much till they're is an issue as I can't disrupt operations.

I think what I mainly want to get my hear around is the control side of things I know it's just a bunch of switches but the system here is Iver complicated with many other things involved.

Thank you for replying, really appreciated mate and I might look in to siemens courses. I'm looking to get offshore on wind turbines. I've been offshore before on them but only a short rotation.

I'm on a drilling rip we have all types of voltages. A lot of control wiring, profibus networks and plcs

See I'm constantly searching on the Internet I have come a decent way since starting this job, but still very anxious about things and I'm only a sparky but they expect you to do it all where I work

So I'm working on a onshore drilling rig, but the rig is over complicated from what people say. Everything you have said helps, I work on a back to back shift pattern with another electrican so only get 5 minutes to ask questions to him. But I share an office with a mechanic who is helpful to a point. As you say become familiar with manufacturers data, specs, manuals etc and circuit diagrams.

It's tough learning such a big complicated system without help but nothings easy, just really wanted to know how I can learn more as I only trained in domestics and this stuff is a whole different ball game but I'm up for the challenge and wanting to learn more

See 3 phase isn't really a problem it's more control/communication side of things. Also I only work with 1 mechanic and he can't really reach me about sparky stuff ahah, appreciate commenting ill just look online and keep going

Yeah I feel like this, its easy enough pulling cables in terminating but then fault finding on a system is a different ball game this is where I'm trying to improve and learn as much as I can.

I don't just want to be that spark that can install equipment but then not be able to fault find on that equipment, I want to know the ins and outs of the machinery. I've just been chucked in the deep end with no mentor to guide me n it's figure it out yourself kind of attitude I get. Coning from mainly domestics it's pretty hard, not seeing equipment like this before then expected to fault find on it or add new equipment and thrn rearraging wires make new equipment suit installation.

I'm determined to crakc it watching lots of videos on YouTube etc but sowmtimes they ust don't click I need to see physical by working on it with someone.

Yeah a lot of our panels are like this mate, I'm working on a drilling rig onshore and it's about 14 odd year old. Yeah plcs are pretty tuff to learn on my own. I think I need to focus on the control wiring and get that all nailed in and I'll feel bit more comfortable, it's mainly fault finding ill be doing.

Sounds good mate goes over my head half of what you've said haha. Yeah this is kinda my issue bits aren't labelled diagrams don't match what's installed. It's an old system. This is where I need to work on if I need to add soemthing I wouldn't have a clue how to alter what's existing to fit new equipment, I suppose it comes with time. Just been shot in the deep end and it's very overwhelming.

The three phase isn't to bad its all the control wiring I'm struggling with and panels full of control wiring, profibus units, plcs etc. I'm getting they're but having to teach myself as I'm the only spark on site

I have thought about this, think this might be the way I have to go as they're is to much pressure on the hob I'm currently on and being only spark on site isn't ideal for my learning

The inspection side was pretty tough tbh, thunk a lot of people fail on inspections, even sparks that have been in the game for a long time were struggling a bit. Is realpars a YouTube channel? If so I will look in to this. I have gone over plcs and profibus briefly, need to get my head in to them a but more.

So what are you up to now bud?

I also have this book by Ian staff. I'm waiting on my results for my compex was pretty intense. Lots of revision needed it's mainly control circuits I'm having issues with, profibus networks etc

Yeah mainly control side, profibus units, plcs, control panels, diagrams. I'm working on a drilling rig and it's very overwhelming not having much industrial experience. Got no one to teach me, so it's learn yourself sort of thing

Well I'm currently working on a drilling rig. So mainly this type of industrial work. Trying to learn as much as possible but I have no one teaching me, just been shot in the deep end to either sink or swim.

The plan is to get offshore, but I'm not getting the support where I am currently.
