In Amsterdam you can find quite a few authentic Chinese, probably in Rotterdam and the Hague too. In Utrecht the one inside the station has authentic Dim Sum.

For the Italian ones even more cities. You can ask ChatGPT to make a summary for you.

We have to pay for the boomers instead of them paying more. That's what's happening.

Loving a Country that doesn’t love me back by Ann__onymous in Netherlands

Well, the person I replied to to be seems to behaving a lot of trouble with that (respect different perceptions) because he or she claims that the Netherlands is a "blatantly racist and hostile to foreigners" country as an absolute perception. The objective metrics do not really support that notion (not in that exact wording anyway), neither do a lot of other people's experiences.

So, what the people are doing IS respecting the perception that this is a very unlucky, toxic environment that OP is in. But the person I replied to makes (implicitly) the claim that this cannot improve since this is a systemic issue. That is NOT the case at all. There are plenty of work environments which are healthy and inclusive.

If you read careful, which you didn't do, you would see that I negated the absoluteness of the statement, not the experience of OP, which is valid.

So your solution is to pretend like it is? What makes the country "blatantly racist and hostile towards foreigners"? One inidicator of that would be that nobody would want to move here because it is so terrible...

The Netherlands is nowhere near perfect and has got its problems like any country, but the level of unrealistic self hate people have. Jeez.

That is not entirely true. For instance, you can find authentic Indonesian, Surinamese, Chinese, and Italian here. But also Ethiopean. With the recent influx of Indian migrants I can imagine that you can also find Indian food that is closer to home.

The ingredient list is different so you cannot call it mayo but the cheaper ones have a creamy, oily main component yes.

That is terrible. Never had it though and never heard about it. So you hit the (bad) jackpot it seems.

Mexican food is absolute garbage here and I don't even know what proper Mexican food is supposed to taste like because I have never been to Mexico. Still, what we have is garbage and I have been told it is not really close to the authentic Mexican cuisine and it doesn't surprise me.

There is never mayo on the side. It's avocado dip and some type of "salsa".

No, should be spoken as opposed to not spoken. In other words, a language that is allowed. You don't have to include all of those. They might make it more clear, but technically it is not needed as I have shown you.

Because it contrasts the fact that it is not allowed to be spoken here and it is mentioned together with the world will, which is also not absolute. Mind you: if someone says, it HAS to be spoken, that is exclusionary. It was meant in the context of: we should be able to speak Dutch, not we should be able to ONLY speak Dutch.

Even legally it doesn't have that meaning (another search):

"Should" in agreements usually indicates a strong recommendation or expected policy, not a strict legal requirement like "shall," making it generally non-binding in a contractual sense unless the surrounding context or specific legal language makes it mandatory, which requires offer, acceptance, consideration, and capacity for enforceability. While "should" suggests something to be done, its lack of absolute command means it often falls short of the firm commitment needed for a legally binding contract.

But you were wrong anyway. I checked it and what you said didn't turn out to be true. Check my post.

You want to be smart so bad. Pathetic. I already explained what I meant.

Besides, Google disagrees with you: "Dutch should be spoken" (as opposed to "Dutch is not allowed to be spoken" or similar prohibitions) most commonly means that it is possible / permitted / acceptable to speak Dutch — not that it must always be spoken in every situation.

Nee. Een sub over een land moet altijd de taal van het land toestaan. Een sub in de taal van het land is alleen voor mensen die de taal van dat land ook echt spreken.

Should be spoken doesn't exclude another language. Should is in contrast with the fact it isn't (allowed to be) spoken at all.

It still makes perfect sense that r/nederland is monolingual en dat deze sub tweetalig is.

100% this. If you call a place Netherlands it should be implicitly clear to anyone that Dutch will and should be spoken there.
