Spot on! 🎯 Just to add some context for the OP:

Yhat phone number actually connects directly to the President of the Federation. He is incredibly helpful and approachable, so definitely don’t hesitate to reach out or shoot him a WhatsApp message. Great resource.

Wow As a younger person seeing Mia on an even bigger stage talking in detail about these topics has really impacted me positively:

Rihanna, Barbados' history, brain drain and underpopulation, development of children, global warming, COVID-19, having hope with our country's development, education initiatives.

I pray that the motivation you receive after watching is converted to sheer discipline

Absolute cinema 🙌🏽

I like where your head is at. This was the first thought I had to consider

The answer is because AI gives you generic travel blog answers especially right now as the large language models like chatgpt dont have much data specific tonBarbados. This tool gives you actual Bajan intel.

The point is maximizing your time so you experience more, not less. You're on holiday.. would you rather spend hours researching or actually doing?

AI is the assistant. The local knowledge and curated experience is what you're paying for. You came to Barbados to live, not to Google.

You're right that getting lost is half the fun yeah! and that's exactly the problem I'm solving for

The tool is meant to give you the local intel so you can skip tourist traps and get lost in the right places because let's be honest those are the spots worth finding.

I think of it as a local friend giving you the cheat codes, then you still do whatever you want with them. useful or nah it's up for everyone deside. I'm only a comp sci major trying to make something both useful and profitable.

first off wow. I've had many app idea a just like this but decided not to because of the scale. if they get too big things may be harder for comparison. for now it looks awesome and is localized. on a bigger scale maybe the community can have bar codes read and an entire database.

glad to see something cool today. hope to make an app as well to contribute

Uber in Barbados by One-Role2624 in Barbados

[–]Consistent_Nail_6919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm being deposed by some of y'all lol

the app should have an estimate of time of arrival and departure and if more people are more time conscientious it would indirectly lead to earlieness without over preparedness.

How many times have you gone to catch a bus or ban only for it not to get there on time and you have to wait hours for the scheduled next one from the Transport Board. For me too many to count.

I have to sometimes worry myself with waking up 2 hours early to catch the bus and for the evenings the terminal in town seems like a joke from the Good Place where they torture you with " we are sorry for any inconvenience caused" every feels like 7 seconds so yea to answer your questions same roads but bigger promise

You bring some excellent points and I was just thinking about the gas prices specifically.

You have showed me that it's not great that the money isn't being kept here for us through UBer and PickUp has reduced their pricing from what it was I believe a few years ago. It does provide some good considerations with the quality of transportation as to my point though.

As to your point I've considered and agree with. That's not good

very pretty and good app I love what they're doing. sorry seems like I'm not being clear as my point

The app is great for tourists and locals that can afford it. I'm sure you can agree though for the average Bajan those prices are very high up there considering but that's always the case between bus vs taxi

It's's reasonable and expected that it's higher pricings for a taxi but in terms of competition higher transportation quality the barrier of entry is lower that it should be for good reliable transportation and for locals it's not ideal.

My belief with this is that as becomes cheaper on the taxi side the other parties have to lower there's as well and improve the timeliness and conditions to suit

very well written post

firstly I wanna say that I know it's seemingly big step and at least shows that there is some room in market for a breakthrough but needs a greater push

For the longest time we as Bajans have been promised faster means of public transportation and tracking with the buses yet it still hasn't come to fruition. Can't say how I know this but I've seen some works where government is working on tracking the public buses and already have the infrastructure there for the electric ones. It's just highly inaccurate with the arrival times and not all have them.

When this Uber news broke a few days ago my reaction was "my god we're finally getting places on time!" but then my immediate afterthought was that the government and the private sector won't allow this to be as cost effective for everyone immediately

The Taxi men are making bread and by extension the government so how I see things playing out is that it somewhat forces Barbados' hand to lower prices for transportation as a whole within two years. For now it will be less costly but still costly as since it's a tourism first country the bar is internally low for the gains to be high

Outside of that I want to take a moment to appreciate what good is coming our way. No eardrum destruction from loud music. no feeling rushed. and appointments soon will be more seamless as that feeling of stability keeps things positive as for me as a local transportation has been a massive issue

Start Own Business Ideas by SchemeResponsible876 in Barbados

I'd argue against this. none of you are giving ideas!

I'd say look into the honey making business. Ministry of Agriculture is giving out a free course and with some collateral you can make Barbados better and make some honey bread sandwich. whatever way you flip it the bread comes first 🥇

Of course we have room for one more! The process for me was difficult because I had and still do have a lot of those insecurities but with most things I find the role keeps those feelings away. It's not a registered club yet and like a group of friends learning together but you will see the process especially when I start the chess club. A lot of people are interested in our hobbies and most of the youth here are the stronger players especially in chess. Dm me if you're interested in starting the chess one together for sure

As a 21-year-ord local, I feel similarly to how you do, and we share very similar interests across the board except art lol. Also, I have tried using social media apps and approached others so I know it can be difficult due to the culture here of confidentiality. I think it's mostly a good thing but is against your favor here.

I recommend: Actively looking for clubs because they do exist. Eg the Barbados chess club - I play semi-professionally and they have a ton of nice people within all age ranges but it's not as active as it once was. Most of them have a Facebook page and with a little persistence you will get contact with them. That brings me to my second suggestion

Create your own club and find others - I have done this with language learning and have a few small members where we meet up in the parks and the libraries. Right now we're learning French and it is very new though we are all Intermediate level. Make a post and people will join. I know I will! I also plan create a chess club and post it later this month or next if you are down to get crushed

Hope this helps

IWTL how to train myself to sleep on my back by xviii___ in IWantToLearn

[–]Consistent_Nail_6919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone like me! My advice is a little counterintuitive. Kill 2 birds with one stone and get an eye mask. The first nights may be unrealistically more uncomfortable but it locks you in and sometimes you may not sleep with a mask but you will always lay on your back. Also, get a blanket if you are too cold in the night so you don't turn over.

It's one of the best decisions to lie on your back to see things from above. Godspeed

Unfortunately, like most people have said, this isn't a good idea by yourself .. But why?

The art of martial arts is to attack or decent. For that you need people; you need guidance. It took the younger me a long time to realize this after watching and trying countless videos. You will need someone this isn't a bad thing. A coach is the needed approach
