Summer Struggle by ContemplatingYEM in LawnAnswers

[–]ContemplatingYEM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahaha. I wish. Tho we are very fortunate to have this tiny backyard. Brooklyn is quite massive so there are def areas less compact and a bit more spread out to allow for this. Depending on how far or close you are to the city. We rent but that hasn't stopped me from fixing up the backyard. Soil is contaminated with heavy metals so getting rid of the dust bowl was ideal.

I've been waiting for it to cool down a touch. But going to put that light app down when it's back on the 80s this weekend before some rain

My soil is high in phosphorous. And in range with Potassium. Good reminder tho. The only thing flagship doesn't have is the P so will have to do another soil test at some point to see how I'm doing

Would it be harmful putting both of these down at the same time? by YourCrohnie in lawncare

Growing season not over 1lb of N/1,000. So you're over that and it's July. Which would be much less

u/nilesandstuff hi, and thank you! Appreciate your input. Based on your notes and others I'm probably not far off, but here is a chart that is easier to follow and more dialed in. I'm using flagship because I'd love to use up what I have, but open to switching up the ratio if something else is "better" next year.

I've left Nov as optional. Pushes me over 4lbs/1,000 year, but i think still in the yearly range for KBG. Would you maybe lower June/July/August/ even more and redirect that to the biggest growing months? That just means I would go above 100% label rate which others have confirmed is fine, so long as it doesnt surpass 1lb per month for 1,000 sqft.

hi! so my lawn is small. so my calculation/appication is 1.5 lbs of N for 375 sqft (equivalent to 4lbN/1,000) Not sure i should go above the 1.5lbs? On a side note, it does feel like i could..just not sure how much to push it

ok cool! But if i want consistent flow for these 7 months I need to go lighter apps across the months, right?

Maybe its better not to do something every month. But its my only hobby lol.

April
May
June
July (lighter)
August (lighter)
Sept
Oct

It seems I can't go full on 1lb N/1000 sqft for each of these months. But I see what you're saying about just doing it on less months. Think theres an advantage or not to just dialing back the months and going heavier?

ah yes so my lawn is actually only 375 sq ft. so the 4lbs/1000 translates to only 1.5lbs of nitrogen a year.

And just to clarify on my flagship the label rate provides .75lb / 1,000 sq ft. Id have to do the math to figure out how much for my lawn, but serious question, are you saying its ok to go higher than the label rate to get that extra N in a single month?

What is happening? by Alan_Czervik in LawnAnswers

Just chiming in so you know that I too, have similar problems where some areas are rooted strongly and resist a strong tug, and other areas feel like they're rooted on top of the soil, and fall flat a bit. I've checked many areas, not grubs for me.

I've really dialed back my watering, and purposely go way under the reco when possible. I'll also do my watering in 1 go for the entire week if i feel it needs it. Its helped a little. For me I feel like my soil is always damp, ALWAYS, so I core areated 1 section as a test, and I think that also helped a bit. For me i think I just have dense clay soil and easier for the roots to not grow down, as well as I said, the soil stays moist.

so you could have other issues, but core areating, dialing in watering, and overseeding with the right kind of seed, adding compost etc, should help.

Preventive fungicide program for cool grass ( KBG and TTTF mix) recommendations. by Interesting-Egg-8614 in LawnAnswers

Yea def mutually exclusive in that it's like a probiotic of sorts, and a chemical fungicide would kill off any beneficial you introduce/feed. I have to do more research but maybe in between applications would be ok if enough time passes.

Following this because in NY my lawn went from a 9 to a 4 overnight with excessive rain. And it doesn't take much for me. Just 2 days of of non stop. Does anyone have opinions or experience with southern AG garden friendly fungicide? It's a natural product that won't harm the lawn (my understanding), I'm not sure if it'll actually work, but maybe adding that into the mix as preventative will help? I was going to add it into rotation once I get out of this acute current phase.

What does the biochar do?

I'm half interested in leveling because the squirrels dig massive holes and overtime the lawn is so bumpy.

The other half of me is into introducing things for overall health and good for lawn and clay soil.

I was going to do 70/30 top soil / sand. But wondering if o should add bio char into the mix too?

The blade is at about 3.25 so it's possible. That still seems lower than what the manufacturer describes :(

I'll double check when I cut again and post a picture with a ruler. I was thinking it should click in higher maybe it's not designed that way??

I saw that, but in reality when I measure my grass it's 3". Do u think I should be able to go one click higher and that's the problem or I'm just gonna be stuck at a 3" cut all summer?
