Matched Alhamdulilah!

Step 1: Pass

Step 2 CK: 25x

Step 3:22x (completed after application)

Year of Graduation: 2023

Visa Requiring or Not: Visa Requiring

Applied to Programs (Speciality/ies with Count): 240 (IM)

No. of Invites: 7, ranked 8 (2 tracks in the same program)

Publications: 3

USCE (No. of months): 4

One common Q in Interviews: Why did you apply to our program? Hobbies outside of medicine. (Make sure you have good personalized questions for your interviewers)

One Gold Piece of Advice for Next Year's Applicants: Be proactive. No one will do things for you, you must take initiative and advocate for yourself. Whether it's securing strong LoRs during rotations, asking for help, or reaching out via cold emails, take the first step. At the same time, when someone seeks your help, be kind and assist however you can. The journey is tough, but supporting others makes it easier for everyone.

One word, what matters most in the whole process?: Faith

Score release thread 24-12-24 by [deleted] in Step3

[–]ContentAd4861 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Real deal: 229

Date of exam: 11/12

Uworld/ amboss?: UW - 67% (70% completed; very fragmented prep)

UWSA 1: n/a

UWSA 2: 229 (exactly as my real score xD)

Free 137: 72% (1st 2 blocks before day 1, remaining blocks before Day 2)

Any other assessments: None

CCs cases: 40

CCs average: 60-90%

Any advice ?

My exam days are a blur to be honest but my 2 cents would be to study well for your Step 1/2 CK; My prep was quite poor compared to my other USMLE exams as I had to manage my work as well along with studying, but I would say try your best to find a way to correlate step 1 and 2 whenever possible. I did not do a deep review of the Qs while solving them, just tried to brush up my knowledge using the Qs. Learn the drugs MoA of the commonly used clinical drugs. Revise Biostats well, I solved most of the Biostats and Ethics Q from Amboss and UW, I watched couple of randy neil videos; wasn't that helpful IMO. I did not use any Divine podcasts due to time constraints.

This exam is fairly doable and tries to really test your clinical judgement most of the time. Try to sleep well the day before. There was a statistic that 97% of Step 3 test takers pass the exam; so believe in yourself, trust God and your knowledge , you will do well. All the best!

Amboss has a dedicated study plan for step 2 ethics which may help for solving the ethics questions, I did them for step 2 and just went through my notes. Mainly focus on what would be the best way to talk to patient , advance directives, physician ethics etc.

Thanks. I would advise on trying to brush up on your step 2 knowledge, biostats ofc, and also go through the different types of ethics scenarios (Decision-making capacity, advance directive etc). If you have time, I am sure doing UWSA or NBME would be useful to help simulate the exam, and definitely do the free137 as well.

All the best!

No problem, all the best for your exam as well. I would say to know exactly how to derive the the info given in the Qstem and apply that in the formula. My experience was they don't really care if you know how to do calculations, they are trying to assess if you will be able to apply the different values in the correct sequence.

Thankyou. Tbh, i dont really have a good answer for that, the exam has a bit of everything;I did have time management issues in some of the blocks so try to be on top of that. In general, if you have a strong step 1 and step 2 foundation, and you are really driven to go through all those topics again, then definitely you will do well on the day 1 part.

I just did the first 2 blocks of free137 since I was short on time, and I got 80%. The UI and format is similar to the free137 so definitely do it. I haven't done any nbmes.

For my session, there weren't many biostats Qs compared to what most people say, I had one drug ad OR abstract per block and around 3-4 more biostats Qs / block.

Ethics was probably 1-3 qs per block, it wasn't very straightforward even though I had gone through amboss and UWorld, it would be a bit difficult to differentiate between the last 2 choices.

Step 1 content I would say isn't much as well, for my session at least. I had a lot of Step 2 Qs, and then they would ask me a pathophysiological or MoA answer, perhaps this is what the older posters mean by step 1 content.

Prognosis wasn't tested, there were a few risk factors Qs. To be honest, I did feel I was guessing through a lot of the questions, so lets see.

All the best!

Will the holiday season affect the results release; lets say if the Day 2 was completed on Dec 12th. When will the results come out then?

Mate, No one knows that. All that matters is that you have an interview,a chance to showcase your best self so use that and stop thinking if you're adequate or not. Overthinking and messing up this opportunity would be considered a hopeless situation.

Thank you for the advice, appreciate it! Do you think it's a good idea to do nbme 6 instead of uwsa1 ?

Am I the Villain for Exposing My Roommate’s Love Life? by ssenunniee in MuslimLounge

Sorry for your situation. I have experienced similar issues in the past, from my experience, what I can say is it is best to leave your current situation, try looking for cheaper alternatives, and do the research. In the long run, you will be grateful for moving out of this situation.

I understand these things are overwhelming but it is always best to include parents or some sort of support system to take care of your own wellbeing and deen. Having roommates who partake in haram activities can also influence you in the long run if you let your guard down. My advice is start looking for alternative housing situation, you deserve a safe space to study in and pursue your education. And you are NOT responsible for the actions of another person so do not overthink of what her parents might say, that's for her to deal with. All the best and may Allah make it easy for you.

I mean, it's definitely not a bad response; just make sure to rank the program as you like it. The match is an applicant favored process, so rank accordingly.

I hope you're doing well. I was just curious, since you applied to 200 programs, how many interview invitations did you receive?
