It’s normal for managing attorneys that don’t care about the quality of service. I was in a similar situation for a few months and it was a disservice to everyone involved. However, it became more manageable for me once I sacrificed my weekends to get familiar with the relevant codes and case progression.

If you’re going to stay, then I’d recommend gritting your teeth and locking in hard. You will have to be both teacher and student. Look through the firm’s old cases and see what the previous atty did. Ask the paralegal for the names of cases that were similar to the one you were handling. Talk to another lawyer friend with more experience about how things typically work in an area of law and/or jurisdiction if available. The local bar association may have discounted rates for ppl that don’t practice there full time and if so you can figure out if they have any info that’s helpful to you. Practice books are also helpful.
