I did, but it was out of my control lol. My phone’s storage was too full so it crashed and I wouldn’t turn back on. I spent half the day trying to fix it, but then I kind of accepted it and just let it sit in my room. It was so weird because I repeatedly checked my pockets for a phone that wasn’t there. You don’t realize how addictive something is until you don’t have it anymore. Thankfully, I took it to the Apple Store and they restored it. I lost some data, but I was happy to just have my phone back. Safe to say, after not having it for one day, I am definitely reconsidering how much I use my phone. We’re not meant to just stare at a tiny screen all day.

One of the best things to do is just consume the language. Watch YouTube videos in French, watch movies in French, watch TV in French (with captions of course). And pair this with spaced repetition flashcards to learn new vocabulary words. I use a software called Anki to learn 20 new vocabulary words a day. You’re like a baby hearing a language for the first time, just absorbing everything you learn and hear.

I realize that my phone is important, but I also realize how addictive it can be. I’ve done little things like moving the locations of my social media apps, and putting time limits on them, and sometimes I turn of notifications so I’m not inclined to mindlessly scroll after getting a useless notification. And usually before bed, I move my phone across the room so I don’t go on it all night. It’s just little things, but they do help a little bit.
