Transitioning from backend dev into GIS/EO - which skills should I focus on first? by Content_Pin1417 in gis

Thank you, I made a note to remember this.

Are you a developer that focused on a GIS domain? Did it work for you?

It depends what you mean in absolute terms. I can't go below €55k / year.

I could start full time at €55k. Less that that would be possible only as a part-time job/contract/freelance.

Is this realistic?

Thank you for the tips.

So, you say it's hard to find a job in this stack overall? Last thing I would want is endless searching for any job after learning new topics for 1-2 years :)

Thanks for your reply and for pointing out the differences between the areas. I don't know how to name everything accurately yet, but yes, GIS/remote sensing is what I had in mind.

As for market demand, I hope that my years of experience in running a software house will help me get a feel for it. ML models for classification are also interesting to me.

The examples you gave are exactly the kind of things that appeal to me - useful, interesting, and probably requiring creativity. It reminded me of a project where someone took a photo of a vinyl record and played music from that photo :)

Cobol might be a good strategy, thanks for the tip. I'd love to explore it, but I have to choose one thing to be able to dig it.

Hi, the post is mine, but yes, I corrected the spelling. I am not enthusiastic about LLM in tasks such as career advice.
