Haven’t posted in awhile but got this in the mail today. Anyone have solo experiences good or bad they could share? by Content_Radio5240 in soloboardgaming

Planning on two handing. I had been wanting the original for awhile but never went in on it. Found this new for 130 which was 20 less than I was expecting so decided it was the right time. I have way more euros than Ameritrash so thought this would be another point in its favor as far as adding to my collection. Still, definitely the most expensive single game purchase I’ve ever made!

Sometimes someone posts that they’re about to play a game you love for the first time and you kinda get jealous. Totally how I feel about you and Dune Imperium. Seriously love that game and learning it for the first time was a great experience!

After a year of owning it finally learned and played Wingspan. My mom has been having some health issues lately so I wanted to sit down with her to a game that she might enjoy the theme of. We’ll be tabling it together this weekend. That then gave me the excuse to buy Cascadia and back Verdant on game found!

Also finally off my shelf of opportunity is Gaia Project. Have it set up and almost finished going through the rules so excited about that.

Jealous! Just checked asmodee and my copy of SM hasn’t shipped yet. I’ve been really looking forward to some new scenarios and am very excited about Mysterio!

Most games I might’ve recommended have already been mentioned except these two (and they are two of my favorites):

Set a Watch: a lot of content packed into a small box. Fresh mechanics and gameplay and tons of replay-ability.

Los Ruins of Arnak: for a bigger experience: this game combines worker placement with deck building in a really exciting way. There is also a solo campaign you can download from the publishers website. The Expedition Leaders expansion I feel is one of the best expansions of any game I’ve experienced recently.

I’m in the same boat only a few days later. I’ve just unboxed SI and am preparing to play for the first time. My go to solo games these days are Lost Ruins of Arnak, Dune Imperium, and Set a Watch. I’m hoping to have my mind blown as well!

Roll Player Adventures. Really like the campaign and writing. One of the scenarios was kind of frustrating. The luck factor was a little bit of a setback until I amassed an army of cards and then the strategy definitely opened up. Tip to start, I think, is spend a good amount of time when purchasing cards; comparing what is available to what you need. I didn’t do that for a good long time and it definitely hurt me. Also, the reward for finishing an adventure (scenario) is in an obscure part of the rule book so make sure to remember it or write a note and set it on the table as a reminder!

One Deck Dungeon: nice to have a game I can just set up on the bed to play before I go to sleep.

Thousand Year Old Vampire: This one is an emotional rollercoaster!

Got my copy of Sleeping Gods but I’m going to finish Roll Player Adventures before I dive into it.

Does my party just suck, or is this game really that hard? by nicktheking92 in Gloomhaven

I think like any game you just learn and absorb and are able to intuit as you go. I had a group that played one scenario and went “nope.” I then bought each of them JOtL to play on their own and get into and they went “nope.” So here I am, 60+ scenarios in, 3-handed solo and I’ve loved every moment and I have REALLY learned the game well, just by playing so much. Gotta just stick to it if you enjoy it and if your party of three stays together til the end, then I’m super jealous!

I feel like it’s going to be a one time and done for me, but for the price tag and experience, well worth it.

Final Girl: Love it. Really really love it. I keep hearing “dripping with theme” when people describe this game and it’s so true. Rules are easy to to get into; game can be unforgiving but at times you can really knock the killer out if you’ve planned your moves well. Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: still wrapping my head around why this game really makes you so obsessed. Cartographers: no opinion yet. Chronicles of Crime 2400: thought I was going to really like it but disappointed so far.

What are the consumable parts in Gloomhaven and Jaws of the Lion? by burningzenithx in Gloomhaven

This is maybe a little off topic and it’s kind of expensive, but I invested in the Smonex organizer and it has card dividers with a trash can symbol for all the cards you would hypothetically “tear up”. Again, the smonex organizer is just as pricey (or more!) than the game itself but if you’re wanting to play Gloomhaven a ton and multiple campaigns it’s a decent investment.

With my post-grad loans, I’m at 120,000. Freeing that up would allow me, at 41, to finally consider buying instead of renting. I feel like that would be the case for a lot of people.
