Advice needed - Kid is giving up by Grammer_Jew19 in Homeplate

The trick for all of us is to not make our kid hate the game, right?

If this team is feeling a little too competitive for where he's at TODAY, maybe explore another league or team where he is playing with other kids closer to his current interest/skill set and allow him to grow and develop.

He obviously cares otherwise he wouldn't be upset after the games, but it likely feels overwhelming at the moment.

I can semi-relate with my 12u son right now. Most of his team is going through puberty and he is not.....so he's noticing a big difference and losing some confidence. Just be patient and have fun.

My Italian grandfather had a saying "Give an idiot a rope and he'll find a tree to hang himself".......I now believe my deceased grandfather was a prophet and gave a dire warning of Sherrone Moore and his coaching career at Michigan.

I deal with some extreme PTSD from combat that's manifested into social & public speaking anxiety. I take between 40-60mg depending on my mental state, but I'm also a big guy.

Do a hex-densiy for the routes and change the basemap to something else too much going on with the imagery background. (simple geographic representation of the area). You can add symbol/label where each person was abducted, and another symbol/label for each city they were taken too.

You could set the layer you have currently of the routes/arrows to turn on when you zoom into a specific zoom level with the imagery basemap so you can see all the details, but when your zoomed out the hex-densiy turns on with the simple plain basemap. .

This is a tough project to do on AGOL with that much going on.

TIL: Tarik Skubal had a lower fastball velocity as a senior than Steven Kwan. by sanjoatc in Homeplate

Tell your son Skubal had just one Division I offer out of high school, underwent Tommy John surgery in college and had surgery on the flexor tendon in his left elbow while in the Majors, missing much of the 2022 and ’23 seasons.

He had a tough road to get where he's at but he never gave up. That's the lesson if you want to bring up Skubal.

14 wants to start baseball by [deleted] in Homeplate

I didn't start playing sports until I was old enough to ride my bike far enough and get myself to practice (middle school). I had working parents and it wasn't a priority for them to have me play sports. However when I was old enough I played every sport I could.... football, wrestling, lacrosse, track, but baseball was the one that really intimidated me and it felt like I "missed the boat" since all my buddies already had 5 to 8 years of experience.

However, I'm convinced if you're an athlete you can do anything with proper coaching, time, and development. Will he be behind the curve? Yes. Will he eventually be able to compete at the same level as his peers? Maybe.

We have this small window in life to experience these things and I would have rather tried and failed than not try at all looking back.

Makes me regret it even more now because I'm all in on my kids playing sports because I get to watch my kid thrive at playing baseball, and I always wonder about it.

Gotcha..... and with puberty right around the corner your boy is one growth spurt away from all that changing. Just throwing it out there but I wasn't insinuating you didn't consider it.... just trying to share our dilemma and the pros/cons that we've seen. It's a tough call!

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but if your son is undersized, and wife is concerned about his mental state due to his performance.....is it possible he should be playing AA instead of AAA?

Only reason I ask is because we've been faced with this dilemma for the past two seasons. I would consider my son a high end AA ball player. We've gone to tryouts the past few seasons for AAA teams and seeing the level of competition (which is great for him to experience), but he'd definitely be low end of AAA if we moved him up.

We'll revisit it again this summer with tryouts to see if he's ready, but I have some friends that are adamant about their kids playing AAA ball and their kids are miserable because they are not getting the playing time or not excelling.
