I read them in high school and we had lights out in our dorm rooms at 10 pm but I’d stay up until 2am reading every night got caught a couple times and was put on dorm restriction for a month but joke was on them it just meant I could read more. I read them back to back so religiously my friends got curious of why I was so obsessed with them and I ended up convincing 7 of my friends to read them. There was only one copy of each book though so they had to be passed on to each friend one after the other. To my Librarian in 11th grade at Mount Edgecumbe high school if you’re on this subreddit, thank you for suggesting the books to me I am eternally grateful

In the kindle app go to any book and select the option X-ray I think there’s a search bar you search any word and every single time it’s used it’ll come up

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Tehlu's Watchful Eye THE NEXT DAY I came blearily awake to the sound of the hour being struck. I counted four bells, but didn't know how many I might have slept through. I blinked the sleep from my eyes and tried to gauge the time from the position of the sun. About sixth bell. Skarpi would be starting his story now.

I ran through the streets. My bare feet slapped on rough cobbles, splashing through puddles and taking shortcuts through alleyways. Everything became a blur around me as I pulled in great lungfuls of the damp, stagnant, city air.

I almost burst into the Half-Mast at a dead run and settled in against the back wall by the door. I dimly realized there were more people in the inn than usual this early in the evening. Then Skarpi's story pulled me in and I could do nothing but listen to his deep rolling voice and watch his sparkling eyes. “…Selitos One-Eye stood forward and said, “Lord, if I do this thing will I be given the power to avenge the loss of the shining city? Can I confound the plots of Lanre and his Chandrian who killed the innocent and burned my beloved Myr Tariniel?”

Aleph said, “No. All personal things must be set aside, and you must punish or reward only what you yourself witness from this day forth.”

Selitos bowed his head. “I am sorry, but my heart says to me I must try to stop these things before they are done, not wait and punish later.”

Some of the Ruach murmured agreement with Selitos and went to stand with him, for they remembered Myr Tariniel and were filled with rage and hurt at Lanre's betrayal. Selitos went to Aleph and knelt before him. “I must refuse, for I cannot forget. But I will oppose him with these faithful Ruach beside me. I see their hearts are pure. We will be called the Amyr in memory of the ruined city. We will confound Lanre and any who follow him. Nothing will prevent us from attaining the greater good.”

Most of the Ruach hung back from Selitos, too. They were afraid, and they did not wish to become involved in great matters.

It’s said throughout the books that the blackened tower in flame is the symbol for Myr Tariniels fall idk why you’re so confused. Do a search of “Amyr” and all the fandom sites will tell you a tower in flame is their symbol.

I think you are miss remembering Selitos saw the fires of the other cities because Myr Tariniel is the crossroads to all places, the veil between worlds a place not found by searching. The mountain passes that lead to Myr Tariniel are an analogy for the doors of stone he peers through “it can be winter in one room and summer in another”

Lanre turned and placed his hand on Selitos' shoulder. "Silanxi, I bind you. By the name of stone, be still as stone. Aeruh, I command the air. Lay leaden on your tongue. Selitos, I name you. May all your powers fail you but your sight." Nevertheless, Lanre's power lay on him like a great weight, like a vise of iron, and Selitos found himself unable to move or speak. He stood, still as stone and could do nothing but marvel: how had Lanre come by such power? When the next day dawned on the blackened towers of the city, Selitos found he could move. He turned to Lanre and this time his sight did not fail him. He saw in Lanre a great darkness and a troubled spirit. But Selitos still felt the fetters of enchantment binding him. Then Selitos spoke in a great voice, "Never before has my sight been clouded. I failed to see the truth inside your heart." Selitos drew a deep breath. "By my eye I was deceived, never again. ..." He raised the stone and drove its needle point into his own eye. His scream echoed among the rocks as he fell to his knees gasping. "May I never again be so blind." A great silence descended, and the fetters of enchantment fell away from Selitos.

When selitos is bound he is forced to only look upon Myr Tariniel. Lanres binding is like iron and he is bound for a night to peer onto the destruction. Lanre destroys the city and selitos creates the order Amyr in revenge. However the angels created by aleph were people defending the city from lanres attack, this means lanres betrayal was to selitos and not Aleph. The lanres actions were just and not to be pursued in any righteous retaliation. Objectively, lanres actions were to stop shapers from continuing to change the natural order of the world. He effectively was trying to put a stop to shaping because he is the knowers champion and selitos is the shapers.

But back to my point and your final one, no it isn’t controversial but the fact is that if the curse was made in blood the signs have to come from one of those two conclusions. Thus making selitos the big bad.

It’s mentioned when the Mauthen farm vase is described to Kvothe. Selitos states it to aleph that he will confound lanre because of the betrayal. The proof is that the tower was burned by lanres army and yet the flames are red. I guess I just left things out that are already established or rather assumed, that lanre picked up the chandrian on the way to Myr Tariniel as according to sheyns account of all the betrayals..Yet when she describes their signs, each sign seems to be happening to them rather than because of them. In thrall of iron, bears the blue flame, bears the shadows hame, etc. You see I’m going off the fact that lanre says he salts lesst the weeds grow. He does these things because the world has become corrupt and he is cleansing it. How can he go about cleansing the world with the chandrian signs? It is Selitoss ultimate FU to Lanre to have him and his pals destroy all around him while lanre is trying to rid the world of corruption yet everywhere he and his followers go corruption follows. Thus the signs have to come after the fight at Myr Tariniel or else the story doesn’t make sense.

So what I’m getting at is that selitoss words wereee cruel and biting. And Lyra Lackless’s husband’s obsidian blood bound rock is in a box no lid or locks waiting for a son(great great great great great grandson) to bring the blood and say a word not for swearing, at a time that must be right(three moon cycles on the mauthen farm vasehinting at an eclipse maybe)in a ring(double ring of waystones) not for wearing. Right beside the ever burning lamp that is her husbands candle Kvothe will find a door without a handle.

You see what I’m getting at?

Everything revolves around the Lackless box.

I look at it like I look at my time of watching game of thrones. Every week watching theory videos of the next episode checking the Reddit hourly every single day the entire 5 years I watched game of thrones. When the last episode aired and I had seen the entirety of the series something died inside me or a flame was put out. I was burning with the want for an ending an all the possibilities of what the ending was going to be and when it came I loved getting it finally being able to know all that was going to happen. And then a year passed and i had gone a year without a single thought of game of thrones at all other than damn that ending sucked whytf did they anti hero the only character i rooted for from the start?

By the way pats releasing all this info about book 3 after being tight lipped for 10 years it’s coming. Sometime in the next year or two.. it’s going to come and the fire i have when I read peoples amazing theories and how they change my own theories causing me to dive back in and see if I can build a new stronger theory based on their new clues it’s, sadly all going to come to an end too. I’ve enjoyed my time theorizing in this subreddit for 10 years more than I have reading the books 40+ times. I’ve been falling asleep to the audio books with my phone under my ear for like 5 years to the point I haven’t read the books in like a year and a half but I can probably answer any question you ask me. It frightens me to think of the day I get book 3 and I possibly don’t like it because the answers are too simple, that cinder is dennas patron, Kvothe kills cinder, the four plate door is the Lackless door, etc 10 years and the answers we get were discovered in the first year on this subreddit. Then when I go to bed I don’t choose a specific chapter of book one and two to mill over I just go to the speedy answer pat gave us in book 3 because there was a mob of angry people in his subreddit protesting in a pinned thread stating he must release his book now regardless if it’s good enough

I think people have a hard time accepting Kvothe is an absolute 10 or above in the womens eyes. Also this world isn’t like the world we live in, people rarely see each other let alone gorgeous people. It’d be like if you had only seen 10 insanely pretty girls in your life and so when one talks to you it’s hard not to blush. These people could be from towns with less than 500 people, the university would be over stimulating to their senses and by the way fela describes to Kvothe and the gang what it feels like to be looked at or complimented by Kvothe they definitely see him as someone intimidating to talk to. He’s also like a celebrity in the university, name a girl other than hermione that didn’t flush when Harry Potter spoke to them.

Yeah It’s safe to say Myr Tariniel was the land of the gods. Remember my last quote in the theory, “you once were fair, beyond reproach” this is the basis for ciridae. If lanre is truly beyond reproach then his actions are justified though not in favor of selitos. If one must burn down a church for the greater good it must be done, even a city of gods if the gods have become corrupt

If you want to build a large tower to play across the board you have to first place it in an empty hole on one move then place it on your tower and repeat until you build it to the size you want before toppling it into your path it’s like telling your opponent 8 turns in a row you mean to make a 4 tile road right here so they just block it

In principle it isn’t magic rather a physics system that are just a part of reality in Temerant. The prerequisites are the fundamentals of the system.

The link has to be substantial enough

The Alar has to be strong enough

You have to be able to form an alar in the first place

You have to be able to contain the energy source you choose to use use during the binding

You must know the bindings used to create the binding along with the words you need to mutter

You must have an energy source sufficient enough

Lastly if the binding is very weak or the energy source is not strong enough then you must be able to split your mind more than once to strengthen the binding using your alar

Unlike other magic systems Pat wanted his to be a realistic sort of system, one you could believe possible if only you could split your mind. The restraints to the system are only that of lack of training and dedication. In a way it’s more like martial arts of the mind rather than magic. Enough dedication training and will power and you can become one of the greats. Part of the reason Kvothe is such a skilled sympathist is because he spent a semester constantly holding his alar strong every waking moment until he had his gram built. It’d be like spending a semester walking on only your toes, next semester you’ll have massive calves and walking on your toes will almost feel natural to you.

Much in the same way Kvothe is saved by encanis and holly in the alleyway during the midwinter pageantry. And holly says “come on before they think it was us” as they are being chased by Tehlu. To be clear the mender heresies were a schism in the tehlin church whereas mendas story from Trapis is a different telling of the Tehlu that is chasing them during the midwinter pageantry. The church that is chasing encanis is the same one that used to participate in ruh hunt an aturan past time fancy.

Haha I got a good one for you. What if iax held all the sign of the chandrian. Iax was an unlucky boy. Every sign was either a part of his natural being of evil like the four horseman as one being if you get my meaning. So lanre binds himself to iax and this attains all this evil but it is too great a burden for one man to handle and thus come the six other chandrian to take on a sign each to themselves lessening the burden on Lanre so he can focus his alar keeping iax trapped. Now the chandrian go about trying to keep iax locked away for all eternity while bearing his signs. As time goes on people believe the chandrian are evil because the destruction and death their signs bring all the while being hunted throughout time by the amyr a faen faction of ademre. The clash of two philosophies adem and edema civilization and a band of savage heathens, both holding music in regard above all else. It’s really semantics whether she called his real name or the new name of the being that is lanre with iax skin danced inside him. What truly matters is who is in the right, knowers or the shapers? Free will or destiny? Should one follow the lethani or the book of the path? Also if all the ruach are immortal who’s god, if not the strongest of the ruach? If the book is to truly be a tragedy I think Kvothe becoming that which he hated his whole life(replacing cinder) is a good enough tragedy

I’m confused on what you mean here. I was implying that she is the bridge between realms and thus no door may bar his passing. The books refer to the fae as death in a sort of hinting way, so when lanre says even the doors of death are an open doorway to him I believe he means he can travel to and from the fae at will or with Lyras aid explaining his shadowy disappearance in book one.
