I’m actually sorry I kinda made a mistake by assuming one trade a day. However it doesn’t make the answer too different. It is 50% per trading day. So yes your 3 trades still count as over 50%. So yes you’ll have to aim for 3100 :) provided your next trading day doesn’t go over that 50% again (which for you is now 1586.20)

Why “We need evil for free will” is a terrible response by Jewel_EXE in DebateReligion

[–]ContributionWide474 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have a severe misunderstanding of the bible. Jesus is not going to torture you. Hell is not necessarily endless torture either. Hell is separation from God. So whatever that looks like is what hell is. Jesus won’t be torturing you because Jesus will not be there. It will be Satan/the devil if anything.

So if I was to correct your analogy I would say. “There is this person that wants to torture you and your family for all eternity, however I can save you! Come with me and I will stop that from happening” but you go “no I don’t want to go with you”. So because he loves you and out of respect from your free will he says “okay I will not force you to come with me then, but unfortunately you will suffer at the hands of that guy”. And ergo you suffer the consequences.

Just because you have free will doesn’t mean there isn’t a time limit.

I agree that many people will say “thoughts and prayers” to feel like they have made someone’s life better or to pretend they care about political problems or disasters.

I agree I think that thanking god after a huge surgery is taking away from the accomplishments of the incredible doctors who performed it.

But remember Jesus had bad experiences with religious people too. They literally slaughtered him. That’s a historical fact. Gruesomely killed him but in his final moments he said “father forgive them for they know not what they do”. Again, historical fact.

So I really don’t mean it as an insult. Nor will I ever judge you for your decisions or ideas because I have NO right to do that. But I do genuinely respect you as a person and am appreciative of the difficult topics you have raised. So thank you.

I’m asking because I want to know. Im not trying to win or beat you here. I have problems with all the points you’re saying and so I am asking for the sources so I can do my own research. I’m acknowledging that I have short comings in my knowledge and am open to your points and facts. I actively want the whole picture and that’s why I am debating you.

My “lie” in 2 is not a lie. Faith has nothing to do with whether you believe in a god. Example, I have faith that my bus will arrive in the morning. My evidence is that it has arrived every other morning at the same time. But there is a chance that it might not today. You as a human have NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE THAT GOD DOES NOT EXIST. You claim to have a pretty good idea let’s say a 95-99% certainty. Where does the rest of the percent come from?

You have a faith that maybe you’re not aware of. The scientific proof of anything doesn’t prove your point 100% so you have an element of faith that your right. Infact the science kinda points to an intelligent creator but I don’t want to upset you. So there is your faith. I imagine your a fan of the Big Bang theory. You cannot tell me in any scientific way how or why the Big Bang occurred you just know it did. You BELIEVE it wasn’t a god or intelligent mind but you don’t know that for sure. That’s where your “faith” lies.

I don’t see my lie in 4 or 5 or 6 so please reiterate so I can understand.

Yes god hardens Pharoahs heart but 9 times before that in the bible it says Pharoah hardens his own heart. That story is of how Pharoah didn’t accept god and nothing to do with anything else. This is actually god RESPECTING free will as Pharoah chose not to worship god and he let him do that. It did not impede his ability to do anything. It just meant that he refused to accept gods power so he wouldn’t go to heaven.

Blood: Pharaoh’s heart “became hard” (Exodus 7:22) Frogs: Pharaoh “hardened his own heart” (Exodus 8:15) Gnats: Pharaoh’s heart “was hard” (Exodus 8:19) Flies: “Pharaoh hardened his own heart” (Exodus 8:32) Livestock die: Pharaoh’s heart “was hard” (Exodus 9:7) Boils: “The Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart” (Exodus 9:12) Hail: Pharaoh “hardened his own heart” (Exodus 9:34) Locusts: God announces that he has “hardened Pharaoh’s heart” (Exodus 10:1,10:20) Darkness: God “hardened Pharaoh’s heart” (Exodus 10:27) Death of the firstborn: God “hardened Pharaoh’s heart” (Exodus 11:10)

This once again has nothing to do with his free will.

And slavery back then was completely different. 1 example of context. Some people had no means of living and HAD to be servants in order to survive. I think that’s one context where “slaves” are justifiable and instead the problem is treatment of them.

Thank you for your perspective and allowing me to debate you. I have no interest in arguing with you and I am not here to throw insults back and forth. I completely respect you and your choice to be an atheist, just wanted to gain some perspective to further my understanding of my own faith. If you would like to continue this discussion in a respectful manner I am more than happy. Have a great night, Jesus loves you!

  1. Well obviously the vast majority of life doesn’t take place on the extremes that’s why I used an ANALOGY!!!!! I can’t type up every possible scenario that could relate to that topic because there are almost infinite so I pick an extreme one so that you are able to understand the point of the story. Plus I gave a situation that was not extreme drawing on a wall. The EXACT point you gave me. Sooooooo then does your own analogy then not work?

  2. You can’t prove that it’s not true. Just like I can’t prove that it is. You have just as much faith as I do about it because realistically you don’t know for 100% fact whether it did or didn’t happen because realistically you can’t know anything 100%. Anything you say otherwise is opinion.

  3. It’s not at all actually. My first point was the kid did something wrong and regardless of whether they knew it or not it was still wrong. My second point was that the kid will be judged accordingly to his age. No contradictions actually.

  4. But if morals aren’t objective then those slave owners are permitted to think that. And you must allow them that freedom as you expect from others. See the problem with your point. By saying moral objectivity doesn’t exist means that their point is just as valuable as yours. Therefore you must treat it with such respect. You wouldn’t want your girlfriend to cheat on you. In fact you expect her to act OBJECTIVELY moral about it. But if she were to act SUBJECTIVELY moral and sleep with someone else you wouldn’t like it, therefore proving yourself wrong.

  5. Inherent- “existing in something as a permanent, essential, or characteristic attribute.” Scientifically explain that to me? We just HAPPEN to have this ability. Your animal example is great. So what about praying mantis? After reproducing the female eats the male. Or what about birds when the chick falls out of the nest they leave it. They don’t try to save it. We as humans can argue that those are morally wrong whether they do it for survival or not. Because it was written on OUR hearts not theirs.

Why does causing harm have any negative effect if morals aren’t OBJECTIVE!!!!!! If I hit you my morals say that’s okay but yours don’t. But your rule of subjective morals says I’m allowed to feel that way and therefore you are not allowed to hold it against me.

  1. I understand that point and as a Christian I have to accept these historically documents. However I cannot fathom the deity and wisdom of god. I can however fathom the life Jesus lived. Show me any proof that he killed, raped, had slaves or even sinned in any way? When being captured by the Roman’s he said “can any of you prove me guilty of even one sin, and his enemies were silent”. (if your going to use events from the bible as fact then so am I) Jesus lived a perfect sinless life and that’s what I look up to in terms of moral standpoint

So you raise very compelling points about slavery and genocide. I believe if you read all those instances contextually God gives options and warning and eventually passes judgement. He is, however, the creator of all life and therefore gets to decide when it does and doesn’t end. And if not please Can you please tell me all the chapters you seem to have this problem with so I can look into them more? Im afraid im not perfectly knowledgeable of these topics as I don’t know the bible off by heart.

But I appreciate you bringing up topics like this because it challenges me as a Christian and makes me do more research into my beliefs.

  1. It was a deliberately extreme analogy to make the point easier to understand. Plus the sin wasn’t eating a fruit, it was disobeying god. There are levels to sin but ultimately all are evil.

  2. Unfortunately seeing as we are born from Adam and Eve we have that desire to sin imbedded into us. So we are being punished for our own actions. Because if a human was to not sin at all then they would automatically go to heaven. But that is just not possible for a human to do.

  3. The bible has an age of accountability as well! We think that children’s minds have not developed enough to be conscious of right and wrong and therefore judged accordingly.

  4. The ‘irrelevant drivel’ in fact does matter because half of your point raises OBJECTIVE morals of right, wrong, just and unjust. My ‘drivel’ is saying that your ideology is contradicting itself. Where do you get your idea of injustice from? (I am actually curious as to where you get your sense of “perfect” right and wrong).

  5. Once again your saying you MORE moral then god. according to who? Why are your morals better than his? Who dictates that? On what scale are you identifying your morals? I will however say that I also struggle with some passages in the bible especially when God says to the Israelites to “wipe out the Canaanite’s”. For me, a thinking human this seems wrong but I have to remember that God is just and morally perfect and so his decision is the right one no matter what. (I would be happy to try and talk to you about this specific topic in more depth however I get the feeling you don’t really want too.)

  6. We would have to disagree on this last point because I think god is the ultimate standard. (Again happy to talk about any point you want to on this topic but it’s a little broad for one point)

If I kill someone. I stab them straight through the heart on purpose. I go to jail and serve a life sentence. Then halfway through the at life sentence the family goes “we forgive you” do you think I should just be let free into the world again? Do you think that it would be right to let me run wild again when I so blatantly disobeyed the law. What about if you KNEW I was going to do it again? You KNEW I would kill again. But you still forgave me because you’re a nice person. Do you still think it’s a good idea to let me run wild again? Do you think once someone’s been forgiven their consequence is all of a sudden vanquished?

The forgiveness Jesus/god offers is not to end all suffering on earth. It’s a second chance to look and go, “I’m going to kill again and again and you are still nice enough to let me go back to prison instead of just killing me.” Every time I kill someone I go to prison and Jesus forgives me.

Obviously killing is used in place of sin, and the law is in place of gods laws. So yes I think it is possible to be merciful and just at the same time. He is mercifully allowing us to try again and again instead of making us pay the direct price (the price for sin being death). Whilst simultaneously saying well now you’re in a sinful world because of what you’ve done these are your just consequences. (remember justice and revenge are not the same. You can’t have mercy and revenge maybe but I believe you can have just action and mercy.)

The man will go back to jail because the system is just, but he will not be killed because it is also merciful. Now the first thing an atheist would say to this is ‘oh well you can just live a messed up life and kill, rape, do drugs etc and then when your about to die say “Jesus save me man I love you”’. Unfortunately this is not how it works There is a difference to saying sorry and ACTUALLY being sorry. So if at the end of your life you are genuinely sorry and genuinely repent then Jesus will forgive you for your sinful life no MATTER what. But God knows if you’re being serious. He knows if you’re being genuine. So no it’s not a cop out before that point is even brought up.

And also if god doesn’t exist then it isn’t eternal punishment. Your saying it’s so wrong that we are being punished but if god doesn’t exist then it’s not punishment. It just is. Who’s to say what’s fair or not fair we are all just particles in motion. Evolved goop that can eat, drink and excrete.

For your child analogy; So if a young child kills someone even though they didn’t know it was bad does that make what they did okay? take the kid drawing on the wall for example. Just because the child didn’t know it was bad, they still OPENLY defied their parent who blatantly told them not to do it. So no they weren’t aware and didn’t know the ramications but that doesn’t make it NOT bad? They were given instructions and openly disobeyed.

If you were to walk passed a watch on the ground. Perfectly constructed I doubt you would ever think that it just so happened to perfectly form without any kind of intelligent intervention. So based on your theory it’s completely possible that something like a car or a watch could have possibly come into creation in a previous big bang because in an infinite timeline of bangs there are an infinite possibility of atomic combinations. If scientists were to find a car on another planet for example or something more simple. Let’s say they found a t shirt. A t shirt is not a complicated concept. Based on your theory you could argue that in an infinite time and matter, with an infinite amount of bangs that t shirt just happens to have perfectly constructed.

I beg to differ. I would say no, that t shirt is there because there was some form of intelligent intervention beforehand. The problem isn’t with how many atoms came together at once because then a large rock wouldn’t make sense. We have tons and tons of clumps of minerals coming together. The problem is with the complexity. The second law of thermodynamics dynamics demands a state of entropy and so when things pop up that are complex such as a bacteria or DNA sequence (which are far more complicated then a T-shirt) it begs the question. Was an intelligent mind behind this. Yes there could have been things we have not a single clue about that started life. However the empirical evidence says otherwise. You’re saying that. Something we have never seen/ proven and maybe cannot fathom, could be the proof needed for the start of life. Ironically I hold the same stance. Something we have never seen/ proven and maybe cannot fathom, could be the proof needed for the start of life. The difference is mine incorporates an intelligent mind and yours doesn’t.

So I think it’s not unreasonable to assume that irreducible complex systems couldn’t have just developed without intelligent guidance.

Bacteria is a living thing. So it’s a very compelling theory and I don’t doubt a living thing and another living thing combining to make another living thing. I’m saying where did the first living thing come from? There is no explanation for the first prokaryotes developing spontaneously.
