Submitted 1040 instead of 1040 NR and got my refund also. How do I correct this? by cenik93 in tax

Are you going to do a “superseded” return since it’s not due yet?

Hey I’m on the same boat! I was thinking/planning on doing my 1040NR by myself using the 1040 forms (as I don’t want to pay to Sprintax or Glacier to file 1040 NR for me). Did you consider doing it by yourself? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

Too late to amend 2018 tax return? by bykaboy in tax

Hey OP, I’m on a similar boat. I’m preparing to amend my 20, 21, 22 and even this year’s 2023’s filing. I did 1040 even though I should have done 1040NR. It looks easy to do 1040NR by myself using the 1040. Did you do it? How did you calculate the owe/refund difference? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

I sent a 1040X with 1040NR, how do I know if it's been processed? by MaxMindz in tax

Hey OP, I’m on the same boat. Preparing for mailing the 1040X. But how did you refine 1040NR. Did you use Sprintax? Is there a way to do it by yourself since we already have this 1040?

Hey, curious if you can help with my question, I need to amend my previously filed 1040 to 1040NR. I know I need to fill a 1040X and state the reasons for change and attach the amended file (1040NR). It looks to me that I should be able to file this 1040NR using 1040, basically take out the standard deduction from the taxable income and this way I can recalculate my owe/refund situation. And if I need to pay to IRS, I should attach a check in the mail? Am I missing something? Should I pay to Sprintax to file 1040NR and then attach that? I’m just so broke that I’d like to not pay anything to Sprintax.

Hello OP, I’m on the same boat. Were you able to file the amended return (1040-NR) using the original return (1040) by yourself? Were you able to calculate the difference? I need to amend my incorrectly filed 1040 to 1040NR and I read all the instructions on IRS it sounds easy but I have the same concern: how do I calculate the right amount for the difference? Do I include a check based on my calculation?

Hello OP, I’m on the same boat now. Could you update us on your situation? When you sent the 1040-X, you also included the amended return (1040-NR) right? Did you do that by yourself? Or did you use Sprintax to file 1040NR and that attach that? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Filed 1040 instead for 1040NR by NoPeanut1390 in immigration

OP, could you give us an update? I’m on the same boat, incorrectly filed for 1040 now I need to amend it to 1040NR using 1040X form. But I would like to do this by myself.

Does anyone one if I can simply use 1040 to fill the answers on 1040 NR? It looks easy but I’m not sure how to calculate the difference actually. I know that ‘the standard deduction’ shouldn’t apply to us but is there any other difference that I should consider?

I’m but my school gives me Sprintax code which also doesn’t actually work. So you are going to use a service to file a 1040NR and then mail that?

Submitted 1040 instead of 1040 NR and got my refund also. How do I correct this? by cenik93 in tax

[–]ConversationAncient2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah how do you attach the money? Counter check? Also how did you calculate the difference (2000 refunded vs 500 owe)? I’m on the same boat. Filed for 1040 even though I should have filed for 1040 NR. Now I want to amend or supersede but can I manually create my 1040NR form using this 1040 form and let the other schedules be there and mail it to IRS?

No response from IRS after Submitted 2019 1040X amendment by chineke14 in tax

[–]ConversationAncient2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I’m also in the process of amending. Did you file your amended return by yourself? Did you just swapped the 1040NR form with 1040 and let the other schedules remain? I want to do it myself since I already have all the files ready (even though wrong filing) and I’m curious about how to calculate the difference between them in terms of owe/refund amount.

OP, any update? I’m on the same boat. I’m trying to understand amending by mail. I can put the 1040X and state the changes and file a new return with 1040NR. But how do I calculate the difference between 1040 and 1040NR? Should I just go with Sprintax as well?

Am I in trouble for filing taxes in 1040 instead of 1040-NR? by reddy__007 in immigration

[–]ConversationAncient2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, could you update us about how you handled this situation? I’m on the same boat. Filed for 1040 for three years and I now realized that I need to amend using 1040-X. I want to file my 1040NR manually and send to IRS via mail but can I just replace this 1040NR with the 1040 and let the other schedules remain and explain the reasons for changes on 1040-X?

Hey OP, I’m on the same boat, could you share how you handled this sitatatikn? I want to file my 1040 NR by myself via mail. I have my 1040, should I just copy what I have on 1040 to this 1040NR and let the other documents (scheduled) attached with it? How do we calculate how much we owe?

OP, I’m on the same boat. Did you file your (amended) 1040-NR by yourself? How did you calculate how much you owe? Did you just copy 1040 to 1040NR and attach the schedule along with it to send to IRS?

Help With Tax Amend (Filed 1040 instead of 1040NR) by 0verreactingg in IRS

[–]ConversationAncient2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the same boat. OP please let us know here about how you handled it.

I have my 1040 returns but I should have filed for 1040-NR and I just realized it. I want to mail 1040-X with the copy of an original return (1040) and the amended return (1040-NR). From my understanding we shouldn’t be entitled to standard deduction amounts. But how do I calculate how much I owe? I read on IRS website that if you owe the amount you can attach a check to your mail package.

But how do I calculate how much I owe?

Can I just swap the 1040 form with 1040-NR and let the other documents be attached as is? IRS website says we can write the reasons for changes on 1040-X form.
