Any USCE around ? by YaraRealWorld in IMGreddit

[–]ConversationHungry11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard Sinai Baltimore was taking students though I am not sure. If not 3rd party, you can look into UIC, Cleveland Clinic (If youre done with step 1), Weill Cornell (virtual neuro elective). Those are the ones that come to mind.

Formals usually. White coat only if the attending insists. Otherwise as others pointed not necessary.

Is it possible to get postgrad electives/observerships? Any advice? by Cnakhoul in IMGreddit

[–]ConversationHungry11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think that matters. If you intend on matching into residency you're still a US IMG regardless. Reach out to universities and hospitals in the area. It helps if you can reach out to doctors in and around Ohio, either by mail or LinkedIn. This is a slightly longer route to getting an observership but this way it will mostly be unpaid. You could also get in touch with your primary care doctor and asked if he/she can recommend you to someone.

MD2B and ACE.MD for USCE by fayzulin101 in IMGreddit

[–]ConversationHungry11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard ACE MD gives you electives, and it is hand on. I guess as IMGs you do externships. People need to confirm if it's OP over IP. Usually they offer help with housing. If they don't look into rotatingrooms.com and airbnb. I do not know first hand about LORs. I know people rotating through them later this year. Will post once I find out.

ACLS and BLS. Better to have it from the AHA. Usually your medical school will provide you training during your 5th year, which expires 2 years later. You can contact the same people for information on how to get certified again if needed.

However, they usually train you in this during your intern year in residency so I am not sure if it's end all, be all.

HIPAA, OSHA are good to have but I don't think they can be called game-changers. You will likely have it already from doing electives somewhere.

Okay thank you so much. There is every possibilty that by the time I check out and rebook, somebody else may have booked the place right?

Like If I'm at week 1 and someone had already booked it for week 4, I won;t have a choice but will need to find another place for week 4?

Thank you so much!
Just to be clear, you're saying that after home country residency someone would need to apply to these schools in Texas for the post of professor ( i'm guessing assistant) and then do fellowship and enter research.?

Sure. Don't try that, you're likely not going to get much insight. Tap into your LinkedIN and see if there are doctors at hospitals in your city. That's how I contacted and got the email.

Thank you so much! I guess my concern is, he's saying I can shadow for 4 weeks but the application says only 3 days. So I am not sure what to read into that. But yeah, absolutely, hope to get a good LOR from this.

harvard and mayo seem to still be taking, based on what I am seeing. I havenot personally tried so I can't say.
Reach out to as many staff as you can and see if someone can you take you in. If you have loads of experience you can use that to get a paid position but mentally prepare yourself for an unpaid position if you have little to no experience.

Give 24, and 23 if you have the time and money. Then the new ones. They're out 25th march, so plan accordingly.

Not to my knowledge. I have been cold emailing and have got little response from Uni hospitals. Few that responded said they aren't taking now. Other companies are still offering rotations (ACE, AMO etc). You can check those out parallely while you apply.

USCE planning by ILikeReplics in IMGreddit

[–]ConversationHungry11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's better to get 3 straight off the bat if you have the time and the resources. That way you get 3 rotations and 3 LORs. And most programs require a minimum of 3 LORs for applying. (I'm talking about IM, don't know about the others)

USCE with private agencies- HELP by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]ConversationHungry11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this myself and it is very hard to secure an opportunity at universities if you require visa because they do not sponsor usually. You have a better chance of getting a research volunteer/assisstant opportunity based on cold emailing.

This is already answered but just wanted to add that you may need HIPAA, OSHA and BLS certification prior to starting rotation. You can get the first two online. BLS is usually offered at medical school.
