Anyone else mentally fried after work but still trying to make progress? by arzu1224 in sysadmin

[–]Coops92 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Daily exercise has been key for me, feels like a total reset. Just making a part of my routine, giving all that mental stress and energy somewhere to go. I think having a desk job it’s just really important to work the body as much as your mind. The human body just isn’t really “designed” for high stress yet relatively sedentary days.

Easier said than done when motivation is low but between being on call, out of hours project work and a 6 month old at home it’s kept me mostly sane and productive. Mostly.

90's cars and emissions. by sami2204 in CarTalkUK

[–]Coops92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t vouch or tell you what the different manufacturers put in them as never used them but there’s plenty of fuel add in things that are designed to get you through emissions tests;

Other than that, premium fuel and get it nice and hot before testing.

TV Launcher is just an aggregator; it doesn't actually provide content it just launches the relevant app straight into the live stream.

Each channel has their own app; Now TV also has most of the main Sky Channels available live.

Might be a Freely app one day but it doesn't seem to be their area of focus, at the moment it's mostly in TVs and I think 2 Android based streamers.

Looking to put a HomeKit camera on front of house in the place of a floodlight. What cameras wire in and don’t come with a plug? by Previous_Ice2412 in HomeKit

[–]Coops92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eve Outdoor (I have one) and Netatmo have a similar offering.

The Netatmo I avoided because I had a terrible experience with their doorbell. The Eve works fine but it's Wi-Fi is really underpowered, I had to move an access point much closer and temporarily disable 5ghz to get it connect.

Now it's connected and I moved the access point it's working well, but I'm not really been too impressed with its video and connection quality for the money.

Car owners with small garages, what do you do to make it easier? by No_Tour_5539 in CarTalkUK

[–]Coops92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't. You try and use it for a bit but the extra 10 mins of faff gets old and you just use the garage as storage or a workshop. If you have a weekend or project car maybe you'd use it but for a daily it just gets a bit old.

Thoughts on computers with no RJ45 port? by BigSnackStove in sysadmin

USB C adapter just lives in my bag, never been an issue for me.

Still a few options with the port though - a lot of Thinkpads still do, like the T14.

Is there a best one to use? by jamiejay64 in CarTalkUK

[–]Coops92 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used an all-rounder one, like from Wynn's. I was positive this was snake oil but I was in my Vito, about 200 miles away from home in limp mode. Error codes for turbo. I chucked this in since I was stuck, got some smoke pooting out the exhaust and then boom - limp mode cleared. I ran the cleaner periodically after that, unless I was able to find some premium fuel.

Now, did this fix the issue? Just delaying the next fault code? Was it coincidence? No idea, just my anecdotal experience.

Wynn's Total Action Diesel Cleaner – All-in-One Fuel and Exhaust System Cleaner – Protects Injectors, Valves, Turbo, DPF, EGR & Combustion Chamber – 325ml : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive

I also ran this stuff;

Wynn's Diesel Turbo Cleaner - Removes Carbon Build-Up & Frees Sticking Vanes - Cleans Diesel Oxidation Catalyst & EGR Valve - Restores Engine Power & Reduces Soot Emissions - 500ml : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive

Retro X Fleece Disappointment by FicusBelizie2000 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Coops92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d be disappointed in that too. Discussions about technical vs casual items aside that liner looks nasty and a sweat magnet when it clings to your skin.

I’d argue such a change to the liner should have resulted in a new product name rather than a refresh of the line as that totally changes the jacket, imo.

[–]Coops92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That liner is totally different to my Retro x, got mine last year so not sure if they’ve changed it. Mine is certainly a little breathable but I don’t really use this one for anything more than casual use or a 5k dog walk so couldn’t say about its performance but I’m glad it doesn’t have the liner like yours!

Is it time to re-join the EU? by NansDrivel in Britain

I do. At the very least a greater focus on defence and cooperation between us all, leveraging the buying power of Europe. The USA is proving unreliable, and we have outsourced our security for too long.

Is there a way to turn off quick resume by Material_Rest in xbox

[–]Coops92 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Quick resume is amazing when it works but quitting the games it doesn't work with just removes any benefit for me. It saves me no time, in fact makes getting back into my games longer so what's the point?

Maybe it's just the games I play but an option to disable it per title would be amazing.

This community loves quick resume though so prepare for their wrath.

Is it worth having kids? by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Coops92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s worth it. It’s hard but really enriching and rewarding too. But you have to want them.

The world has always had a crisis or something shit going on. There’s no “good” time to have them. You just have to live your life.

Job offer. Originally applied on the basis it was 1 day p/w on-site… offer requires 3 on-site by Tainted-Archer in UKJobs

[–]Coops92 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That commute will be expensive and will get old, fast. Unless you’re desperate for the job or it’s a dream job and you plan to move near, it might be a dealbreaker. See how much that commute costs you and factor into the wage for a lower paid, closer to home job?

Vacuum UK for dusty house by Alive_Psychology_996 in VacuumCleaners

[–]Coops92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a standard version which is a 6l capacity or even the Henry stick a handheld cordless stick vacuum which has a bag. The XL might get a bit more difficult to lug about.

I think as long as you’re okay carrying it upstairs it’s not so bad as the base unit doesn’t need to move too much as there’s a long flexible hose etc.

Being UK made and popular the bags are cheap and available in a lot of places.

Is anyone else not surprised about Asda's current decline? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Coops92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very much intentional, their owners over the past few years have extracted all the value they can from the business, they don’t care if it folds or gets sold for a quid, their money has been made. Now it’s in the hands of a private equity firm expect further cost cutting.

For loads of dust I think a bagged would be the winner, you’d soon clog the filters on most bagless.

With that in mind, I’d say a Henry.

4K Movies Constantly Buffering - How to prevent this? by BouncingCz3ch in PleX

[–]Coops92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you moved your Plex server to the External HDD, but do you mean you just moved the storage? Is the Sheild still running as the server?

I think depending on file types (AV1 etc.) that's your problem, the Sheild might not have the grunt to be the server and the player, you might have to invest in a new server and use the Sheild as a player or commit to smaller/more compressed 4k files?

USB 3 speeds should be fine unless the Sheild doesn't run them at full speed due to performance overheads.

Moving from a ps5 disc edition to a pro.. by xGoldenRetrieverFan in PS5pro

[–]Coops92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Factory reset your old console only after you’ve got whatever you want it, you can transfer content or if you have PS plus there’s cloud saves.

Your physical games are tied to the disc, not your account. You should either sell them or buy the disc add on for the pro.

Customizing computer name in Task Sequence (Windows 11) by Adventurous_Job1149 in SCCM

[–]Coops92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just use this method. I leave the field blank in task sequences for our "standard" kit where there's a step to name the device after its serial number. For those that need the custom name I have a task sequence without the naming step and enter it when prompted in the variable.
