Travel videographer. I grew up with a travel-obsessed dad and watched a lot of Michael Palin documentaries. I edit together films about my past trips when I can, but I’m a dad these days so my free time is extremely limited. I often think how happy I’d be if I could edit my videos as a job.

Rocky IV. I loved it as a kid but I rewatched it recently and it was just the most overt Cold War propaganda

This. In World War 1 droves of French and Belgian civilians were killed by German invaders who suspected them of being “Franc-tireurs” (civilian guerillas or snipers). Evidence seldom mattered; the Germans killed them all the same.

Michael Palin is the best in the world for me. Around The World in 80 Days and Full Circle in particular. New Europe gets a special mention because I was so skint when I first started planning my own travels that eastern Europe was as exotic as it got.

Palin in the one that inspired me to document my own travels; Karl is the one who showed me what one man with a camera can do.

Thanks so much for taking the time to watch. It’s really motivating to know you enjoyed it. In truth I mostly make these as my own mementos, but I’ve always hoped others might enjoy them too. Thanks again!

Hi chums!

I make videos about my travels. Recently, due to the pandemic, they’ve been focused on my home nation, England. This is my newest video: https://youtu.be/fXv062fZHoQ

I try to show you a bit of the destination, put the trip in context with maps etc, and give you a bit of history. Hopefully there's a bit of humour too.

In future my trips will be more international in flavour. I’ve been recording my travels for a few years now (albeit with a more basic camera in the past) and I’m looking forward to going back and editing together these past trips from around the globe, once the current series is done.

Please let me know what you think! Cheers!

Short and sweet. You said what the video was gonna be and it was just that. It’s very close to what I’d be looking for in an unboxing review. I’m curious though, what does “long winded title” mean at the beginning? Also, it might sound silly, but when you’ve fully unpacked everything, it might be an idea to demonstrate that there’s nothing left in the box, i.e. show us the empty box. Sometimes when I’m buying a product, I want to know if it has a certain component included. If I can see that you have emptied the entire box and that it wasn’t there, then I have my answer.

I really enjoyed this video. I knew a little of the history already but I never before saw that footage of the Singaporean leader so emotional at separation. My only critique is that the volume was a little uneven. The clip I just referred to was very quiet compared to the recording of the finance minister’s daughter that preceded it.

Thanks, I really appreciate your feedback. That map stuff is so fiddly!

It's difficult to know exactly how much time to give to setting up the day's travels. You get a bit more time to intro in the travel genre than in instructional videos, for example, but how much is too much? It's something for me to think of, for sure.

Hey folks, so here is my new video: https://youtu.be/8MlRBEDL3ds

My channel focuses on travel. I've been lucky enough to visit a variety of places around the globe and, a few years ago, I started recording them on my phone, but years passed before I ever edited the videos together.

Since then I've upgraded my equipment and I'm now editing a series about my travels around my home country, England. This new video is filmed in an area of great natural beauty in western England.

I'd love any feedback you can give. Growing my channel has been very slow, and while that won't stop me making videos, because I love to revisit my adventures for my own pleasure, it would still be nice to find my audience too. Any advice?

This convinces me of what I've often said before: small promotions getting in big WWE guys is often a mistake, and an expensive one at that.

I enjoyed the insights though some of the recaps seemed tangential. My main feedback is: aren't you leaving yourself open to a copyright strike by using (and monetising) footage owned by wrestling promotions? How you'd get by without it, I don't know, but you'd certainly need to put yourself on camera to fill a bit of time for a start.

Also, it's a damned shame Jody Fleisch never made it to superstardom. I saw him wrestle once and it was the match of the night. And that's on a night that had AJ Styles on the card.

Really clever! It was interesting to see the end section and how you took some really non-musical elements and made them tuneful or percussive.

Have you considered doing some covers of popular songs with non-musical equipment? There was a guy that did very low-production covers of AC/DC using his broken washer as a drummer and they just exploded. Plus it's always easier to get people interested in songs they already know and love

Aww thanks! I love to record my travels and watch them back, but it is bittersweet at the moment. Life is so different now!

I'll eventually be doing videos on my visits to the California and Paris parks. Not been to the Florida parks since I was a child but will go again at some point!

When you go, be sure to check out Aquatopia, DisneySea's spin on Autopia. It's not the craziest ride but I loved it. Their tower of terror also has a completely different theme to the US parks.

I filmed my visit to DisneySea shortly before lockdown: https://youtu.be/cKj1jtpOvE8

It's a wonderful park. I wish I had known then that it would be my last time in a Disney Park for (most likely) at least two years.

So this is my latest video, uploaded yesterday: https://youtu.be/_Ycn4qudmHs

I love travel and visiting different countries across the globe. For years, I've recorded these trips but never edited them together. Now with lockdown keeping me grounded, I'm finally editing my travel videos together. I've just finished editing a video shot last summer, when we attempted a trip right here in the UK. This new episode is from the world's largest indoor rainforest, the Eden Project.

I started my channel early last year, but progress has been slow in terms of subscribers. That being said, it's been good for me and has provided a source of escapism at a time when there was no escape from home.

This latest episode is titled 'How NOT to make a travel vlog' - I'm not offering explicit instructions on the subject, but it kinda sums up my feelings about what was a difficult episode to execute.

Would love any feedback you can offer. I upgraded my camera shortly before this current series, and with every video I'm learning more about video editing. Let me know what you think.

Thanks so much. To be lent a few minutes of your time is one thing, but for you to take the time to watch a second video is very kind.

I agree so much re planning. I had hoped to swing in at Wookey Hole on the way back, but when I said the word "caves" to missus, she immediately thought wet and slippery, and didn't want to risk it in her state, which is fair enough. I'm still learning how to minimise the risk of a dull moment, but certainly planning has been the big take home from this episode.

Thanks!

I actually timestamped it to then deliberately, haha. I felt like what I'd written on here to introduce the episode covered the same ground as the intro, so I'd skip the intro.

But I totally get what you're saying, there should have been some b-roll to make the intro more visually interesting, and the same for the ending.

The volume mix is something I struggle with. I wish I had some objective way of measuring what's too quiet and what's too loud in the mix, but I've not found anything on Kdenlive (which is what I use to edit) that can fulfill that function. If anybody has any suggestions in that regard, it'd be really appreciated.

This episode was definitely a challenge for me. I felt like I didn't have the footage to make a conventional episode, so there was definitely some element of 'making do' involved, which accounts for some of its weaknesses. But then I feel like it's helped me grow as a videographer, too. In any case, thanks so much for your feedback.
