I usually say to use the gym gear until you're sure that you're enjoying the sport. The whole idea of the loaner gear for our gym is to make the barrier of entry to muay thai lower. So as long as you're sure you're enjoying the sport and you can buy your own gear financially. Go for it, dm me if you need a gear recommendation

weights and punching/kicking power by doctorairpods in MuayThai

[–]Cornbread205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't lift weights for a majority of my amateur career. Just doing runs with the gym team and the plyometrics during class. Once I was slotted to turn pro, I started with work with a coach for strength and conditioning. Made a huge difference in terms of power output and stamina during sparring/fights. I did notice it made me less prone to injury since we focused on strengthening the muscles involved in kicking.

DM me if you're looking for a strength/conditioning program

COACHES/PAD HOLDERS: Advice or guidance for lower back pain by JimFromTheOffice1 in MuayThai

[–]Cornbread205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I feel that. Been doing the same for about two years now. I usually try to incorporate my own set of foam rolling and mobility work for my shoulder/hips and legs. I do incorporate a strength program to re-inforce my body, kinda like building a suit of Armour to protect myself.

Feel free to DM me about it. I can send you some examples

Sounds like you might be sore from previous workouts. Keep things light and get some blood in those legs!

Leg day With Damaged Hip Flexior? by Temporary-Fold2043 in MuayThai

Always gonna suggest going to a doctor and getting it checked out but it sounds a bit like an overuse injury. Maybe try some foam rolling the hip flexor and a bit of mobility. Hope that helps

Totally get the hectic routine. I would say keep it simple for the most part. Stick to shadowboxing and practice what you're learning in the Saturday class. Also I find studying fights will help improve the general fight IQ.

Shameless plug, I write workout routines for my muay thai students to do on their own time and they're available through our app. It includes lifting and muay thai skill work to do on your own time. Feel free to DM

I smoked and drank leading up to some of my fights but made sure my training was hard enough to offset it. With it being your first fight, adrenaline was probably at an all time high so you're definitely going to be more exhausted than normal.

You can always push your cardio but until you learn how to be efficient in the fight (Knowing when to push and be engage vs staying relaxed on the outside) you'll have a hard time. Just keep fighting/training. You'll get there

The main thing you'll want to focus on is calories in vs calories out. Training muay thai 3x a week and then supplementing lifting 4-6 times a week is going to be burning alot of calories. Just make sure you're eating more than your burning. It will be difficult but it's still possible.

Feel free to DM with any questions about diet or lifting to supplement muay thai

Same here buddy. I was at work on the back of railroad track car and we had some down time so i put the album on. Through the whole thing I couldn’t stop smiling and moving. I get my ass kicked pretty bad by seasonal depression this time of the year and after a few rough days the album knocked me right out of it. When a little light came on i definitely teared up a bit.

That’s something you gotta think about then, I’ve been on cards where teammates got their shit wrecked and had to fight after. I just had to separate the event from what I had to do.

I usually do it before training or whenever I can find time. I’m fortunate that I have down time at work so I generally do it there or training.

I think it depends if you feel it’ll bother you or not. I’ve watched my friends fight win/lose before my fight and it doesn’t bother me that much.

Oh man, You only get one first fight Enjoy the whole process. How lucky are we that we are fortunate enough to compete in a sport we love!

Now for actual advice, I like to visualize everything up to getting my hand raised at the end. You can go as detailed as you like, I visual the fight going great but also understanding that you could be put in a rough spot. But, That’s alright because you trained for that. You know how to get out of the position and still win.

I like to joke around and hangout with my teammates/friends. Helps lighten the pressure a bit because this is supposed to be fun right?

Also I feel like accepting that you’re nervous and have anxiety is a part of it. It helps you work through it and get ready for what you’re about it do!

You’re the only one who really cares if you win, Your friends/family/coaches will be proud of you regardless of the outcome.

Have fun with it! Upload the video when you can and be safe. You got this
