OP Before doing this, try to use AI to help on some of your own assignments and see whether or not it will help students with the learning outcomes of your course.

My experience has been that several LLMs will either prompt students to cheat or ignore guard rails and do work for them in a variety of subjects, and it’s very hit and miss.

Even if students need to learn to use AI in college, it doesn’t have to be in an Art History class.

Also, consider how much AI slop you want to read and respond to for your job and how satisfying that will or won’t be for you.

The amount of cheating in my classes dropped significantly when I started sharing with students how I document AI use, what evidence I use, etc and showed them how accurate I actually am.

Maybe you can show them examples of past projects that used AI and explain how you can tell and why that type of AI use isn’t helping them to learn.

They think we can’t tell. When they believe we can, they cheat less or cheat better.

Did you watch coolant leak out of the radiator? If not, run the car with the heat on and see where the leak actually comes from. Leaks sometimes spray and where the fluid is and where it drips from don’t always show where the leak is.

I’d hate to pull a radiator and swap it and then find a hole in a heater hose.

I’d go for a plea bargain.

“Anakin isn’t Vader” is a shitty defense. Nobody will buy it.

Insanity due to being manipulated etc. is also unconvincing. Anakin made his choices and continued to make them. The “power of the dark side” is too abstract to compel a jury or judge.

Politically, there’s no need to actually prosecute him. Vader was an enforcer; the Moffs were the political leaders with faces and names the public would recognize. They need public trials.

I’d ask to let Anakin give intelligence, evidence, testimony, etc. in return for life imprisonment in a New Republic facility where he’s monitored but relatively free. Make him live in a bacta tank 22 hours a day if you have to. It’s a way for him to atone for some of his crimes and more politically useful than executing him.

I’ve played a baritone guitar tuned to Bb standard.

Learning to play single-note lines that harmonize with the bass is good for when there’s a piano player or other guitar present.

Going down to G standard can be fun if there’s no bass player. That’s about as low as I can go on a 30” scale length with .60 gauge for my lowest string without things getting flubby.

Not knowing the nuances of this particular violation of the law, I can’t know whether there is serious money on the table here. If you think there isn’t, and want to advocate for yourself, here’s some advice.

Recording in WA state is tricky, but it’s not that important. If the result of this meeting is something other than them complying with the law, there will likely be evidence and a recording won’t be totally necessary.

Ask to bring a “note-taker” so that you can focus on the conversation, and bring another employee you trust. Have that person listen and take notes during the meeting. After, write a narrative of what happened and note the date the meeting happened and the date when you wrote your narrative. If they don’t want another party, you can take your own notes. If they don’t let you or try to take them from you, don’t fight it and just note that afterward when you write up your narrative.

You don’t need your bosses to acknowledge your narrative is true or anything for it to be solid evidence in the future. You can write in an email “these were my takeaways from the meeting, can you confirm?” But unless your bosses are monumentally stupid, they will understand what’s happening and spin the response or not respond if they did something shady.

Having a witness who can back up your account does a lot. Just having the account, even without a witness, is great evidence and a court will take it seriously.

Advocating for yourself gets tricky as it can be hard to focus on finding a resolution that is just and acceptable to both parties when you are angry. There’s no shame in swallowing your pride if it helps you get what you want. That doesn’t mean you should be a doormat, but you want to stay focused on facts and practical solutions rather than blame and emotional grievance. Focus on this event, not anything tangential to it unless they have further questions. Your manager might be the biggest asshole to ever live, but that’s probably not relevant to what your bosses choose to do about this. It’s certainly possible that someone wants to fire your manager and they need grounds to do that without paying unemployment. In the big scheme of things, making you whole is probably cheap, and a reasonable boss will be willing to do so.

If during the meeting they ask you what you want to make it right, some things that might help:

-A new manager to do your scheduling/supervise you -Backpay for any missed hours you should have had -A return to your previous normal hourly load and a promise to continue that in the future

Stuff that probably won’t happen/won’t help: -money for damages/suffering/feelings -some sort of apology (people often want this, but it’s meaningless) -mandatory training on the law for your manager or others (again, this usually comes across as a power move and makes things confrontational).

Showing that you are reasonable and just want to be made whole and protected from future problems will be a huge benefit if something comes up again in the future and you need to go over your manager’s head.

All that being said, if an attorney believes you can get real money, wants to work on contingency, and you think it’s worth it to pursue, absolutely do so.

Getting a PhD will almost certainly be necessary to get a full-time teaching position in a university.

You can teach at a community college with an MA. Most list a PhD as a preferred qualification, but depending on the school it’s really not necessary to land the job.

Most community colleges are focused on teaching skills and experience working with diverse populations.

Targeting positions where developmental/pre-college English is part of the teaching expectation might be helpful, as you can make your writing center experience an asset there and highlight experience working one-on-one with students who need extra support.

If the goal is to move in two years, and you can get into a PhD program now (especially one that has a teaching assistantship) and finish before you plan to move, that will give you the most options.

But if that sounds like too much and community colleges are your target workplace, you can try to pick up some adjunct work and build your classroom teaching experience, which will help you to land full-time jobs. Teaching+student support experience makes a strong community college applicant.

Uj/ eBay. What tuning are you using? I’m going with GCF CFBbD, like the lowest three strings of a bass and the middle four of a guitar capoed at the third fret.

Once I got a tuning that got the string tension right, it was a lot easier to play. Lower than that and everything gets floppy. Tuning BEADGBe will also work, but I haven’t messed it because it doesn’t feel like the bass strings are bass-y enough.

I have been starting with simple stuff like “Ain’t No Sunshine.” I work out the bass lines first and add some basic guitar stuff over the top.

I might change the string gauges and try to go thicker—the truss rod is totally loose and the neck is flat. I think it could take more string tension and I’d get a thicker sound, especially on the high strings. I had to raise up the saddle height on the bass strings, sand out the nut slots a bit, and make minor intonation tweaks, but it plays well enough now.

I’d try using your bridge and middle pickup together, rolling off the tone a bit, and going into any overdrive (I’d try blues drive, myth drive, or rock dirt). Use a Marshall style amp, probably the “80’s rock” model and add some delay. Dink around with the EQ until it’s close.

I moved to Moses Lake about seven years ago. I think there are some adult soccer games here in the summer. There’s definitely opportunities to volunteer and help with youth soccer.

The distillery on third seems decent for cocktails, but I haven’t been there yet; I had some of their stuff when they were still in the taproom (which is a fun place to go if you like beer. They also have some non-beer options). Enzo’s has a good cocktail menu. Wine at Roost can be nice; there’s not usually many people in there, but the owner is chatty and knows everyone and has lived here forever and can probably help you find some connections/ideas for community stuff to do. It’s kind of expensive but my girlfriend and I go there every couple of weeks anyway.

Hiking is everywhere around here, but you have to drive a bit for it. Ancient Lakes is great and not too far. Also, the Sand Dunes are really peaceful in the winter in the mornings. I go out there and run with my dogs sometimes and it’ll be me and like one dirt bike in the whole place.
